31. FEMA is a scam,

They should fire everyone that works for FEMA, and let the people of the United State,elect them into those jobs, it looks like anyone that is hired into FEMA, already knows how to work with corruption in the system. They are all friends and get referrals ,from other friends working for the company on how to get hired inside that corrupted company - goverment job.

I just feel now days, we the people of your country should be electing the people into these important postions, that are suppose to take care - support our people in time of need of a disaster. I hate to support the thought that we have to step to that level of eleccting people into those kind of postions. But now days we cant trust our goverment to choose the correct people that really care for our citizens, in time of need.

FEMA has failed to many times to support our citizens, and it needs a complete over hail. From the bottome and all the way up to the top.

32. What's the difference if FEMA does it or Oprah does it? The shill she had in the audience asking questions during her HPV vaccine show was so obvious it was ridiculous. Plus, Oprah conveniently didn't inform viewers that the "doctor" she had on there pushing the vaccine -- Marie Savard -- also is a representative for Merck, which stood to benefit significantly from all the positive Oprah coverage on the vaccine. (I'm not against this vaccine, by the way, I just look down on conflicts of interest & staging of so-called "news" events like FEMA's and, in the other case, Oprah's HPV show. Why not just tell the truth up-front and say, hey, these are some questions we think you might like answers to?

33. Well, I do work for them.... The people who screw up in FEMA aren't the people who actually do all the work (taking the calls, processing cases, etc...). It's the ones who make the desicions and come up with the guidleines who are screwing up. We simply do as we're told. Congress makes the guidelines for each individual disaster. You want changes, take it up with them.
When Katrina hit, we were working 12-15 hrs a day till 3:30am. I was going off of about 3 hrs of sleep for about 3 wks. I had a 4 yr old child, that I missed out on. He had to go to the ER, and missed it b/c I was trying to help these people. Who are still getting help from FEMA 2 yrs later. No one can say that we didn't care, and that we didn't try. I have lost a good part of my life being here.
So unless you actually work here, and know exactly what goes on, and what we here have to deal with on a daily basis; you really can't say a thing. You don't know. All you're doing is making an uneducated guess instead of stating facts.

34. I don't know why people would be surprised, let alone outraged. You people voted for him. Bush's presidency is all about censorship and other shady things. It's all very creepy. If you're really worked up about this, write a letter to your congress. Don't send some crappy e-mail.

Gah! Even though I couldn't vote at the time, I'm glad I was all for Gore and then Kerry in the last two elections....-_-"

Um, #33 with the exception of Katrina (although we here at the processing centers, who actually do the work), and the fake news, (which is irrelevant to actually getting assistance to the victims) FEMA has a pretty damn good track record. Why don’t you ask the people in Florida and Alabama? Ask the people in the North East who had blizzards, or the people who were victims of flooding and tornadoes? You could also ask the people of NYC about the help they received when 9-11 happened. Nobody releases any of the good things we’ve done. No one cares about that. People only want to know how everyone else is screwing up. We didn’t get our jobs by “knowing” someone on the inside. We have four centers spread out over America. We’re not based in DC where you have to “know” people. They needed help a few years ago, and were hiring. I came in, filled out an application, and was hired. I “knew” no one. You DON’T know how it works.

37. Scarlet - if you think the people really voted for him, let alone in the last election, you are blind. Elections aren't real in this country anymore, especially with more and more computer "voting" systems.

If there is any wagging the dog theory going on today, the dog would be the government and the tail would be the media.

Media can make anything out to be whatever they choose. It is up to us to research the truth and not rely on any media outlets. They are all running their own agendas and those agendas have nothing to do with the finding of facts and everything to do with money.

The more interest and controversy the media can generate, the more money they put in their pockets in order to grow larger and stronger. They don't care if it is the public that loses and they don't care if they polarize a nation. The power of sales is the font from which they worship.

Each of their headlines should read: CAVEAT EMPTOR!

With all due respect to your comment (#22), you did not hear all the story on Katrina unless you lived it. The local corrupt government shares blame. The national corrupt government shares blame. The greedy dishonest insurance agencies and contractors share blame. That does not alleviate all of the blame FEMA shares. They were a joke. It was unethical and positively sickening.

Don't pretend you saw, read or heard the real story unless you were in that Dome or living in a FEMA trailer which is currently being repossessed.

It's because of people who look at the whole story from soundbites that let them get away with this crud.
