Copperfield's Attorney Accuses Feds of Improper Leak

David CopperfieldDavid Chesnoff, attorney for David Copperfield, tells TMZ that all the allegations against his client are false and that investigators in the case improperly leaked information to the Seattle Times.

"David Copperfield has never struck, forced himself or threatened any woman," Chesnoff said. "If some woman told anyone that he did, then she is not being truthful."

Chesnoff pointed out that these are not the first allegations leaked in this case which turned out to be false. He tells TMZ, "The media previously reported that the FBI seized $2 million in cash from Mr. Copperfield's Las Vegas warehouse, only to be contradicted subsequently by an FBI statement that the media reports were untrue and that $2 million was neither found nor seized."

Chesnoff went on to say, "We have been asked to respect the confidentiality of the investigation, but clearly law enforcement officials are not doing the same. At least three federal officials have been cited as sources in a Saturday Seattle Times story containing information about allegations being made. This not only unfairly and falsely defames my client, but it undermines the integrity of the entire investigation."

Copperfield, Chesnoff points out, has no blemishes in his past and is taking these allegations very hard, saying, "It is very hurtful for him to hear and read these horrible, untrue allegations being made against him by a still unnamed woman. As I have previously said, David Copperfield has never forced himself on any woman. He is not that type of person. He is a true gentleman in every sense of the word."

76. souds very strange David striking the woman and forcing himself on her and threatening her...sound even more fishy than before. I don't know what actually happened, but it's sounding more like a very naive 21 year old that thought that David would help her with her modeling career and she found out that he was only interested in her for sex. What is a 21 year old going to have in common with a 51 year old. Sounds like it was a big misunderstanding ad she felt used. She was humliated that he used her for sex. I don't think David is a type of person to cause harm to anyone. If he did there probably would've been others that came forward in the past. I think the Seattle FBI fore screwed up big time. They should be ashamed of themselves. It should've never gone this far.

80. I predict he will be indicted, and soon. All the magic won't help a bit. The only thing he can hope for is that the case will be dismissed due to the jurisdictional issue. He will fight like hell on that. I believe the Mann act covers it for the accuser, but we'll see. He'll fight for years on that alone.

"In the Enquirer article, the FBI set up a sting, where she met him in Las Vegas, and he offered her a 2 million dollar bribe to forget the whole thing. Which she didn't take."

And so? His lawyer says 2 million $ were not found or seized.

82. I have loved David Copperfield since I was a very little girl. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live, and met him after the show. I will never believe the allegations that have been brought forth about him. He has always been a perfect gentleman, as was his late father. I hope they get things figured out and the police get their heads out of their butts about this whole situation.

84. I've been watching David for over 20 years and this has to be false. I specifically remember a show I went to and I was sitting several seats down from a girl he picked out of the audience to go onstage. He glanced at me twice, which was nice, but he choose the girl on the outside seat (a plant) at the end of the row. Convenient, huh.. she was by herself, another hint, and she left right after the show in her own car, again by herself. So what he picks girls from the audience, wtf did she think a trip to the Bahamas was goint to be? Sigh.. dumb women.

85. When I was in Jr. High. My shop teacher was accused of rape by a student. He was also a newlywed at the time to another teacher. The information and details were leaked to the press by the arresting officers immediatly. He was immediatly put on leave and his wife was too ashamed and hounded by reporters to work . They were raked over the coals and crucified in the press prior to trial. During this horrible period, there were reporters at the school and it was an absolute zoo. Guess What, during the trial it came out that the girl who accused him was lying. She wanted the attention, and the revenge. The teacher and his wife got back his freedom, had a nervous breakdown and was unable to go back to work. They eventually left our town because of the bad memories. The girl got suspended and transferred. Big deal barely a slap on the wrist.
Guess What, until we have all the facts in place, we cannot presume DC is guilty of anything. I tend not to believe anything that is written in the National enquirer, star , people, us, etc anyway. And any investigation where officials are actually leaking information to the press smells fishy to me.

86. In my experience, people worth millions are not saints. Actually, they tend to be selfish, nasty, controlling sons of bitches. They abuse others with impunity, confident that their expensive lawyers can take down anyone who tries to complain.

And for every one of those creeps, there is a shill on TMZ ready and willing to defend for a price. Standard character assassination of the victim included, of course.

87. Copperfield is tall, dark, handsome, famous, single and worth a billion dollars. Nay, no woman would want a guy like that.

88. P.S.

I love the fake posters on here pretending to be women defending a rapist - "Jenny, "Erica" et al. No actual woman would do that, unless they were the wife or mother of the rapist.

You guys didn't actually think you were fooling anyone, did you?

89. Oh! He's tall, dark, handsome and rich, therefore he's incapable of committing any crime.

Nice try, publicist shills.
