Plumber to Promises: You Drained My Wallet

A Malibu man claims Promises Residential Treatment Center was filled with false promises.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Craig Macintosh, a Los Angeles plumber, claims that last Father's Day, he checked into Promises for substance abuse.

The facility, which has catered to stars like Ben Affleck, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, was not nearly as accommodating to Macintosh, at least according to the suit. Macintosh alleges he was "rapidly detoxing and desperate for help," when he was left with "no doctor, no meds and no food." Macintosh claims when the doctor finally saw him, he "didn't seem to know how to work the blood pressure machine."

Macintosh says he bailed after only a few hours, and Promises refused to return his $34,000, but offered him a credit. He's suing for negligence, fraud and emotional distress.

A Promises rep said they hadn't even seen the suit, so he couldn't comment.

To hear Macintosh's entertaining account of what went down, tune in tonight to TMZ TV. Check your local listings.

16. I'm confused about something: the plumber is complaining about no food, Dr, etc... but he was only there for a few hours? That isn't enough time to detox.

18. This guy makes it sounds like he was there for days without food, water or medical aid... but then he admits to checking out aftere a 'couple of hours' which would translate to ... 2hrs. Wow he sure gave it a valid shot....2 whole hours, he must be 'serious' about his recovery.

23. These rehab places are nothing but fraud

and the worst is when WE, the taxpayer or people struggling to pay insurance bills, have to pick up the tab for this con artist garbage

24. Promises is so fake. Why do you think it's not helping Lohan & Company?! Celebs go there just to make it look like they're trying to get sober. Can anyone say "overpriced spa." And I don't doubt at all that this guy was given a second rate treatment. I hope he wins his lawsuit. F**k these celebs. i couldn't care less whether they're trying to get better or not. Pathetic brats.

27. This guy is not the only "civillian" claiming to get second class treatment while celebs get treated like, well, celebs. I have no faith in a place that's set up like a luxury resort but pretends to be treating people with serious problems. They're currently allegedly being investigated for practising medicine without a medical license too. What the hell do you expect?

28. Who runs or owns 'Promises'?? --I wonder, as their track record is not very good in turning out celebrities with any length of sobriety and I have heard several people (non celebrities) complaining about their program there. Glad to know TMZ recognizes complaints and comments on the every day common hard working person. This poor plumber probably doesn't have a chance at a law suit though unless he can get a high profile attorney.

29. Promises is a joke, it's a beach-house operating as a business. There are NO, I repeat NO certified addiction treatment specialists on the staff, they are all friends of the owner and they operate under the guise of a rehab so people can have an easy out and not have to go to a real rehab and really confront their prblems...take a look at their awesome track record.

check them out, they have NO ONE qualified to deal with addiction in any way shape or form.
