Prosecutors Want the Judge to Throw the Book at Lane

A prosecutor has asked a judge to sentence "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison to four years, eight months in state prison. Even though they are not asking for the maximum sentence for Garrison, prosecutors are asking the judge to throw the book at the actor.

Garrison is in a Beverly Hills courtroom this morning, uncuffed and wearing a suit, waiting for his sentence to be handed down.

In a courtroom filled with friends and family of the teenage victim, the prosecutor described the scene on the night of the accident. He spoke about how Lane was partying with high school students who asked the actor, after he had "seven or eight" shots of vodka if he was OK, to which he replied, "I'm from Texas, we can hold our liquor in Texas -- not like you can here in California."

Garrison was drunk and driving on the night of December 2, 2006, when he crashed his Range Rover, killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian. Two teenage girls in the car were seriously injured.

17. You can see, he regrets what he has done. I think he has served enough time, and should be put on probation. I understand a young kid died, but he seems to regret what he has done and will be haunted with that night forever.

20. # 9 - What about a little blame for the adult parents who let their kids run the streets???

21. Mis Manners and I'm drunk right now......both of you made ignorant statements. If it were your child you wouldn't think the same. We all know teens make immature and stupid decisions. They are still children. Just reading your comments show that people aren't capable of thinking with intelligence. How would you expect a teen to think rationally? A 27-year old man should have some common sense, but I guess Hollywood has just turned him into fool like the rest of brat packers.

22. No one force the kid into the car with Lane. Lane made a bad choice that doesn't make him a killer, he just has bad judgement as does everyone else that was in the car! Sorry the kid died but he was a big boy and made his own choice to get in the car with someone who had been drinking. Lane has served enough time in prison, don't you think just the thought of what has happened will haunt him for the rest of his life? To me that is punishment enough for a celebrity and a normal person.

23. #15 I completely agree with you. He's served his time and I think he deserves a second chance. These ppl on here that are saying "Throw the book at him" dont get that they are talking about a real live person here. Have they ever heard of compassion? Doubt it. Its a sad situation all around but at the end of the day its sad that someone died but he made a choice, just like the rest of them made a choice.

24. If I were the dead kids parents I would hope and pray that he doesnt "slide" because he is a psuedo TV star. This guy needs to do some hard time to think about what he did, what he took away and the effect he has made on people's lives. If it was a non-actor being sentenced out of Hollywood you better beleive he or she would get the book thrown at them. Why are so-called Hollywood Celebs treated so diffently??? Someone died here because of his actions.....I hope for the families the Judge does the right thing here.

25. Everyone placing their own judgment on Lane needs to ask themselves how they would feel if this was your brother who made a bad decision or your cousin or friend. This is a real person here and yes he made a terrible mistake but it is a mistake we have all made with our friends countless times and for many of us just got lucky that something tragic didn’t happen when it was us. I understand how hard this must be on the friends and family as I have been in their shoes but if this boy got in the car with one of his own friends and not Lane and the same thing happened would they be saying the same thing? Probably not. Everyone needs to remember here that all these kids were out parting on their own before Lane showed up and were doing illegal things such as drinking and doing drugs. Where were their parents and where were the parents that allowed this under age parting in their house? They share some of this responsibility. If the parents were responsible from the beginning this could have been prevented. I have been on both sides of this story. I have lost someone close to me and I have had someone close to me make the same kind of mistake Lane did. While tragic everyone is human and no prison sentence will change the past. Good people do bad things and that makes them human. Bad decisions were made all the way around that night. Think before you judge.

27. Not that dirinking and dribving is an excuse and Yes he should certainly do time. But what about theseparents who let their kids go to a party where there was alcohol? And I'm sorry but anyone with a brain and sees someone doing that many shots of vodka was asking for problems, when I was their age there is no way I would have gotten into that car with him. Ultimtely he is responsible and should pay the price but the others there were also to blame along with whoever held the party and the kids parents-they need to take responsibility themselves.

28. I think that Mr. Garrison has shown a ton of remorse for what he has done, which is taken another life by driving drunk. HE needs to serve some time, yes, but I don't feel the maximum sentence will do anyone any good. Community service, lots of it, go to high school, preach to these kids about drinking and driving, or getting into a vehicle with a driver who has been drinking or taking drugs. I doubt if his life will ever be the same, the guilt he is going to bear for ever is a sentence in and of itself. Yes, he needs to do some time, but he is remorseful. Much more so that the rest of hollywood who gets caught for drugs or drinking and driving, and the pretend rehab that they all seem to go to. I believe he is truly sorry - he will do some time and hopefully become a better, stronger person because of it.

29. How about they are all responsible. He was stupid to drive drunk & high, the kid was stupid to get into a car with a drunk person and the parents should have known where their kid was and who he was partying with. A 17 yr old knows the difference between right and wrong and riding with a drunk or sober person. I'm sorry for all parties involved but they all made stupid decisions.

30. I agree with Miss Manners.................The under aged kid made the choice of whether or not to get in the car. Oh, wait........perhaps the under age kid was also drinking!!!!!!!!!!!! It is all together a very sad situation.
