Prosecutors Want the Judge to Throw the Book at Lane

A prosecutor has asked a judge to sentence "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison to four years, eight months in state prison. Even though they are not asking for the maximum sentence for Garrison, prosecutors are asking the judge to throw the book at the actor.

Garrison is in a Beverly Hills courtroom this morning, uncuffed and wearing a suit, waiting for his sentence to be handed down.

In a courtroom filled with friends and family of the teenage victim, the prosecutor described the scene on the night of the accident. He spoke about how Lane was partying with high school students who asked the actor, after he had "seven or eight" shots of vodka if he was OK, to which he replied, "I'm from Texas, we can hold our liquor in Texas -- not like you can here in California."

Garrison was drunk and driving on the night of December 2, 2006, when he crashed his Range Rover, killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian. Two teenage girls in the car were seriously injured.

31. Why if you're 27 and famous would you party with a 17 year old boy and two 15 year old girls........cocaine and drinks...........Lane you're a loser and now I feel like a loser just for talking about you!

32. I love the headline for TMZ tv. It asks the exact right question : "Killer car wrecks! Why Lane Garrison goes to prison while Brandy's free as a songbird.?"

34. There should be time for this crime. And if he has to be the example of what happens when a handsome young gent drives drunk and wrecks and kills an even younger passenger, well, so be it. Celebrities get to be examples of the 'good life' when they spend their big bucks and enjoy the fruits of their success; no reason they shouldn't be examples of prison life when a fistful of those big bucks finance behavior that leads to the death of a young person.

35. I still don't understand what a 27-year-old man was doing driving around with two fifteen year old girls...

36. I'll be the devil's advicate on this one...

Yes it is very sad that a young man lost his life, but come on they were not FORCED into that car with Lane. They also could have opted to call a cab if they felt he was too intoxicated to drive. They liked him when he was getting them alcohol. All I am saying is they are as much to blame for the accident as Lane.

37. A 27 year old man needs to own what he did and do a decent amount of time. Blaming a 17 year old (who already paid for his mistake with his life) or 2 15 year olds (9th graders, folks!) for (a) believing an adult who says he's ok, (b) believing an adult who has the sway of celebrity (so clearly at work on this page - y'all think he's a frickin saint just because he's a celeb yet feel 9th graders should have made better choices!). Get over the blame the victim, excuse the victimizer mentality. It doesn't serve the offender at all to have others excuse him no matter what, even in the face of a killing, just because he's on tv. Jesus. And for those blaming the parents, you can bet they will be paying for the rest of their lives for not knowing where there kids were. However, how many of you at 17 lied to your parents to go to a party? Drank at a party? I didnt know that was punishable by death.

38. Kitty - It reflects his maturity level! 27 and drinking with 9th graders.

39. 29. Cristina - Well, thankfully, our justice system is geared towards punishing the criminals (those who drive drunk) rather than the victims (those they kill), and we hold adults in control of a vehicle to a higher standard than their child passengers. Playing devil's advocate, as you say, in your spelling-impaired way, one could easily say "It's your fault I shot you in the head. You knew when you came in to my house that I owned guns, and we drank alcohol together. What'd you expect?!"

43. Sweet Tee - yes, you are most certainly an intellectual. Amazing. A 17 year-old is the same as a 5 year old ??? But you say they are all "children." Gee, children can drive cars now I guess. And how many 7 year old want someone to buy them alcohol ?? Then, on the day someone turns 18, they start making all the right decision, too, right ??? Everybody's overly-sensitized about everything these days..... he's gonna go away for a long long time, so why don't you just leave it at that?? They want him burnt in front of all the "children."
