Rev. Al to Dog Chapman -- March With Me!

TMZ has obtained a letter that Reverend Al Sharpton has sent to Duane "Dog" Chapman, after Dog contacted him yesterday. Here's the full text:

Dear Mr. Chapman:

I received your call while on the road promoting a March I am leading on the United States Justice Department on November 16th in Washington, DC, against hate crimes and racial attacks around the country. The revelation of your conversation came at a time that is most frightening to a lot of people because we are in a state of crisis with the proliferation of racial attacks, hate crimes, and bias incidents in the United States and abroad. In fact, Abraham H. Foxman, the Executive Director of the Anti-Defamation League and I released an unprecedented joint statement today because of this climate. Even more concerning to me though is that the Justice Department and the federal government have failed to intervene in cases all over the country of racial bigotry and hate which is the reason we are having our march on Nov. 16th in front of the Justice Department.

As a minister I would be inclined to meet with you despite the racist and grotesque things I heard you say, but I am not willing to rearrange my schedule around the country building up for this march to do so. If you wish to meet with me somewhere on the road that is fine, but be assured that I will not sanitize the kind of hate language that leads to the hate action that has left so many people vulnerable in America today. The company that airs the show has the right to take steps by any means when there is a public display of a character of bigotry. We did not call on your company's action but we will not call against your company's action, because what was said in private is now public, and they have a right to deal with their public perception.

If you are sincere that this does not reflect you, you should not only meet with us, but you should march with us on November 16th and call on the government of the United States to protect people, that unlike you don't have publicist, don't have lawyers, and don't have any protection. They used to have the protection of the United States government.

In Progress,
Reverend Al Sharpton
President of National Action Network

76. The DOG rocks!

his son Tucker pulled a trick on him~ just like the Dog went on and on about in the conversation~ hum...must have been the girl that taped it and gave it away.

77. Let the free market place sort this out. If "Dog" is a racist then the suits at A&E will have to decide what to do with him from a business perspective. It's not about some guy on TV saying hateful racist things in private...it's about whether or not A&E has the balls to cut it's most profitable show. They will!

In the meantime, when this blows over (and it will like Michael Richards, Don Imus, hell..even Rev. Jackson's "Himeytown" comments) "Dog" will end up somewhere else doing whatever the hell he does. But racist/sexist feelings and words will still permeate both black and white society. This is all just moral postering.

78. Who knows the "Dog" better than his own son?????
His son just exposed to the world what he has been hearing from his dad all of his life, but this time it was at the expense of someone the son loves. Kudos to the son for taking a principle stand and showing the girl how much he cares for her...many ladies out there know in their heart that if their guy was faced with a hard decision, that he would dump your butt..The Dog's comments go deeper than a father and son disagreement, if the father didn't want the son to date a black beause of their "shop talk" than it stands to reason that the Dog would not hire a qualified minority because of his racist shop talk..Discrimination is "ILLEAGAL DOG". .....if not me, than who??

79. Sharpton is the worst one of the bunch. If he had it his way we would all be in a racial war. Everybody wants to run to say there sorry, sorry they got caught.

82. "This is how white people talk when black people are not around so the next time you see one smiling in your face remember the cannot be trusted."

Everyone look at the pot calling the kettle black.
Ignorance obviously comes in every color.

83. it was hateful to be so angry at his son, for his choices. Does anyone know how the private conversation made it into the media and the public?? Just wondering. I am coming in cold on this, so I don't know.

84. So why is it that comedians like Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy can say negative things about white people and you never hear a peep about discrimination but when a white person says anything negative about anyone it is all in the news? I am so sick and tired of being told that people can call me honkey, cracker, and other derragatory terms and that is not racisim because 150 years ago a white person owned slaves. I do not own slaves, and no one that is alive has ever been a slave so ALL discrimination needs to end. Not just the discrimination agains African Americans, but against ALL people of ALL colors and it is certainly NOT ok for anyone of any race to degrade a person of another race...

85. Chris Rock can say it because he's black.
I'm white, and the word 'Honkey' doesn't offend me.
It may have something to do with the fact that white people weren't opressed for 300 years, but that's just a guess......
If some black guy calls me a 'honkey' or a 'cracker', I laugh.
If I called him the 'n' word, I wouldn't expect him to do the same.
Ron Chapman should have more sense as a person in the spotlight. He got exposed for being the redneck he is. Look at his hair! C'MON PEOPLE!!!!! LOOK AT HIS HAIR!!!!!!!!!

86. Attention Parents!

Never back your kid into a corner the way Dog did. Dog wasn't giving his son logical reasons for not liking the girl other than her skin color and his personal disdain for people of that race. Imagine how angry this guy was listening to his father speak to him that way about the person he loves? Dog hasn't been the greatest father in the world. Imagine the rage that went behind the action of turning this tape over.

Parents, it doesn't pay to treat your children this harshly. You can't control them with money and you will lose their love and respect every time. In the end is that what you really want? I'd like to ask Dog that question.

87. The public is lashing out at Dog because of something he said in anger and now he regrests, he apologized that takes alot to say "I'm sorry" there are a lot of people that can't even apologize like those black kids that beat up those 3 white girls in Long Beach, CA last Halloween those girls are now traumatized for the rest of their lives (one of the girls has a damaged eye socket) and the parents of those black kids never said they were sorry for their childrens action instead they played the victim. SICKENING!!!! Where is Rev. Sharpton now has he voiced his opinion about this case he never defended those girls and apologized for the way those black kids acted. SHAME ON THEM!!

88. What we have here are double losers.
One black for being a racist
One white for apologizing for what I hear them saying to each other everyday. And singing about it too.
Lost respect for you dog.
Never had respect for you Al

89. Uncle Al got his Reverand status from an old match book cover. He is always in the middle of a derisive controversy for his own gain and needs to go back to the South Bronx and minister.

90. What is everyone angry about? Are they angry because he uses the 'n' word in private, or because what he said in private — became public?

And so are the hearts and minds of so many of us, to say things in private that we pray don't become public. We use profanities, obscenities and have no threshold for Political Correctness — in private — so we are all guilty. We've just haven't been 'outed' by the media. Why? Because the Media can't make money off us!

So...what is the REAL crime here; using the 'n' word? Certainly not. The crime is being a bigot, a coward and a social proletarian. He obviously knows that choosing bigotry would alienate his career, and that it is deemed to be wrong, so why continue in it any further.

Antidote: He needs to undergo an "Inward Social Upgrade".

Regards,

W. J. Spalding
