The Audacity

Hogan Blames Victim

For Injuries

11/7/2007 12:32 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Nick's rep, Adam Handelsman, EVP of 5WPR, issued the following statement to TMZ:

"Nick and the entire Hogan Bollea family are saddened that criminal charges have been filed in regards to the tragic single car accident on August 26, 2007.

Nick will meet and answer these charges in the appropriate arena a court of law. The family's primary focus and concern still remains for the continued recovery of Nick's longtime friend John Graziano. The Bolleas will also continue to stand by the Graziano family and help them in any way they can.

The tragedy to both families is compounded by the fact that unfortunately John was not wearing his seatbelt. Thankfully, Nick was wearing his.

Because of what happened to John, the entire Bollea family will make it a priority to increase public awareness about the importance of always wearing your seatbelt. There has been much speculation as to the speed and wet road conditions surrounding this accident. Although all the evidence has not been evaluated, preliminary reports from the experts indicate that this was not, in fact, a high-speed accident. Because Nick is still a juvenile and has no prior criminal record, we are disappointed that he is being charged as an adult offender. However, we are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that this was an accident.

We ask all who follow these events to keep an open mind as to the facts until they have been ultimately determined. Finally, we thank all who have prayed for John's recovery and ask for your continued support and prayers."

Yes, it may be johns fault for not buckling up but it is Nick's fault for driving without checking to make sure that he was. Obviously somebody forgot the first thing they learned in driver's ed which idk goes something like this: before you even touch the gear shift you check to see that everyone is buckled up. Nick, better start lubeing up for the big house.

Yes, John should have been wearing a seat belt. But, Nick should not have been racing, speeding, and driving drunk!!! Blame the victim. Sad.

Nick should be treated like everyone else but unfortunately he is not like everyone else he is a miniature celebrity and will get off with the help of BIG DADDY’S money. Nick needs to grow up find a real job and take responsibility for his own stupidly.

This is such crap, the kid was racing and drinking. What a jackass!!! I know when I have people in my car, we don't move unles seatbelts are on. How about improving the awareness of underage drinking, better yet drinking and driving. Not wearing your seatbelt This is just another cause of and rich and famous kid thinking he is bulletproof. Reality check NIck Hogan you were stupid and now you're friend is more or less brain dead!!! Sounds like they are trying to say that it is the friends fault for not putting on his seatbelt, STAND UP FOR YOUR ACTIONS!!!

This is sick - Nick isn't taking any responsibility for his actions. The show always shows Nick being rude and not caring about or for anything other than himself... Its sick to read this He is blaming his friend and not himself.. Get a grip kid you drive awful speed always and are a brat.. I hope he does time then he will appreciate the life he still has as his friend lay in the hospital in a vegetative state...

just saying...

Ok - so he is a juvenile - so why was he drinking and driving - racing other cars at that?
Secondly shows plain and simple that he is NOT adult enough to make smart decisions. The Hogans have given their kids way too freedom and now Nick's will be taken away.
It is the driver's responsibilty to tell the passengers to wear a seat belt. As a passenger, I have told the driver to wear one. Passing the buck on a kid who has just returned from a war zone in Iraq like he is some irresponsible nitwit who didn't wear a seat belt is pathetic.
He shouldn't have been drinking. He shouldn't have been racing. He shouldn't have gone to a CAR SHOW a few weeks ago. Driving on the tracks is very different to driving on the road. On the road, there are trees, stop signs, turns, etc.
What a Jackass!
I hope John's family sues the crap out of them because the PR statement shows their lack of respect for someone who is supposed to be his "best friend."

#34: if your son went behind your back and got into a similar situation, you would be singing a different tune.

This is very bad PR! Blame the victim! Nick was driving, possibly drinking and speeding! Nick WRECKED the car. HE WAS DRIVING! No wreck, no injury!

Obviously, it would have been better for John to have put on his seatbelt. Had the other things not taken place, there would have not been a wreck in the first place.

I'm so sorry for John. I pray for that young man. His parents are even fighting over guardianship of him. So sad! He deserves so much better!

I hope Nick will stand up and accept responsibilty for his actions.

there's only so far you can spin something before it spins all the way around and bites you in the ass. that is one seriously offensive press release.

btw - you can email the jerk who wrote it via his pr firm 5WPR. here's their website:
