Prince PFUnks Up His Fans

PrinceBattling with several fan sites of over the use of his material, Prince has decided to try making nice with his biggest supporters the best way he knows how -- through song.

His Purpleness released a new track on his site entitled "PFUnk" and even gave the song to the website PrinceFansUnited.com -- a site formed by three of the largest Prince fan sites as a way to fight back against the barrage of cease and desist letters the sites have received from Prince's lawyers. Controversy!

Here's where it gets strange: A statement was released yesterday by Prince's PR people, calling the Prince Fans United sites "phony" -- only it turns out the statement was sent in error. The two sides are working on a joint statement and hope to have the matter resolved soon.

Earlier this year, Prince and his record label fought with YouTube over a 29-second video of an 18-month-old baby dancing to Prince's "Let's Go Crazy." How does Prince find so much time to surf the web?

47. #13 @ BatmaN - So really whatz your point?? Sounds like you're having a hater party. Prince is still fabulous and well...you're not. But by all means go ahead and get on the "Hater Train" I know u got round trip tickets. Plus ud do what u got to do (dis Prince) to sleep at night.

BTW, Prince plays a variety of musical instruments ( u name it he plays it) and he is an accomplished writer, producer as well as musician.

49. Probably his name has finally gone to his head. But of course he's not solely to blame because he is simply following the principles of the incredibly selfish and heartless business that he works for. Without the slightest regard for the welfare and safety of the people that they "serve", the moguls of music churn out a tidal wave of music and lyrics that can't do anything but damage anyone who hears it. Even 40 years ago this would not have been possible because the obscenity laws would have prevented it, or the most basic mechanism of community standards would have brought a challenge against the concept of putting music that advocates criminality into the heads of young people. So low have we fallen now that the music industry can blandly deny that their product has any negative effect, and the public itself is unaware that what they are listening to is actually so destructive that it can only be called diabolic. We who were alive and aware 40 years ago know this is all true, but the present generation knows nothing of it this, so great is the disconnect. Meanwhile the music industry profts hugely, and the stars that they promote become so wealthy, so drug soaked and so detached from reality that they fully believe they are above even princes. Does Prince need to please his fans and make sure they continue to buy his albums? Not in his own mind, obviously. In the bizarre landscape of the music business, apparently it's possible to believe that you can abuse and lambaste your fans with lawsuits and court orders, and meanwhile they will continue to maintain their fansites, buy your albums and fill your pockets with money. Obscene wealth, heinous substance abuse, and above all music that has been squeezed dry of every last drop of spiritual value, this is the reality of the music industry, and Prince simply puts a smooth face on it.

50. Prince is courageously fighting for the copyrights on his OWN material that he's written and created for decades because of the principle of the thing. You may not appreciate watching others grab and profit from your legacy piece by piece without having done any of the work, but you must give it some thought to at least try to understand where he's coming from. He most certainly does not want to alienate his fans and supporters, but some of these same people seem to think it's their right to freely show and distribute his stuff just because they're big fans. His actions now will help safegaurd the ability of all future artists to support themselves. If the new world decides it's a free-for-all on copyrighted music, hard working musicians the world over will get screwed, and that's not right. He's bravely trying to take a stand for everyone in the biz, sadly knowing it will alienate those that lack understanding. He needs some company to stand out on that limb with him. Netizens won't like anything that's not free, but ethically should at least comprehend here that he's not simply being a greedy you know what. There's much more at stake.

51. I hope he finds time to surf THIS little corner of the web and give a shout out to my best friend from high school who is getting a suprise birthday party for her 40th tonight.

Being such HUGE fans back in the 80's, the party theme is "Prince". It took me an entire day of shopping to find myself something to wear in the perfect shade of purple.

Prince, my man.....tonight a bunch of rowdy 40 year olds will be partying like it's 1986!

54. clearly a case of "little man syndrome"...I agree with the other posters, what kind of moron would fight his own fan sites...now I have heard everything!!!!!

55. I remeber when Prince was a nobody, and first started out, and the only stations that played his music were the black-owned stations. I knew he would be bid someday, and he was.

For over the past deacade, he hasnt done much of anything. So fo his ego to be this inflated, makes no-sense. He use to be "normal", but he is now reminding me of M.J. Living the life of a recluse, and acting weird. I say let go of the arrogant attitude, and be the great artist you were.

A fan!

56. I'm old enough to be Prince's mother, but I love his music and think he's a handsome young man. Prince is a artist. She's a singer and a professional dancer. If he doesn't make money for the work he does, he'll end up like Michael Jackson, broke, homeless, and unpopular.

57. I hope no one buys his crap anymore. I got over him in the early 90s and wouldn't spend a nickel to see him perform. Google that Prince -- I imagine he'll try and sue TMZ now too.

58. #49 - ExFVocals -- Problem is, he's not suing people trying to make a profit off of his music, he's suing fans who happen to be listening to his music when they capture whatever it is they post YouTube and other mass access websites. And if a "fansite" can't play a musician's music...wow. These people and the websites aren't making money by redistributing his work -- it's not like piraters are going to youtube, or frickingprince.com to download background music. He's being a paranoid control freak and inflicting greater harm to his cause than good. I know I certainly add this to my list of "yet another billionaire 'artist' gets his greed on."

59. you can be whoever you want to be.and be as talented as you want to be or claim to be.but when you sue a baby,,A BABY?!!? you show you have the same cojones the ken dolls or mickey mouse has.

its amazing what people can do or sue for in exchange for a buck or 2..its not like hes gonna starve to death because a BABY is dancing to HIS tunes.

60. It's moi again.
I guess you folks don't get it.

First of all, Prince is twice as talented and NOWHERE near the freak Michael Jackson has become (Now THERE'S has-been). MJ was a very talented, (albeitd troubled) young man, but who cares about him anymore.

2. Prince is a musician tryirig to keep people like most of you from infringing on his copyrighted work iike ExFVocals explained.

But I guess you wouldn't buy the cow since you steal the milk 4 free.
