A Letter from Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson

Willie NelsonDear Friends,

Our horses need your help! Join my family, Bo Derek, the Barbi Twins and a host of others in the fight to save our horses.

Horses are living legends of American History yet we continue to slaughter over 100,000 horses annually. Thanks to Animal Welfare Institute, (AWI), U.S. slaughterhouses were closed down. However, the cruel business of slaughter continues by crowding horses in trailers for over 700 miles to Mexico and Canada, without food or water. These plants in Mexico are killing the horses savagely, by multiple stabbings until they drop to their knees in order to slit their throats, causing them to suffer slow painful deaths.

Once again, it's time to flood the phone lines and emails of our legislatures. Ask them to co-sponsor and demand a vote on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (H.R.503/S. 311).

Come join us on Capitol Hill, November 13th and 14th to support this bill. For more information visit www.awionline.org and to find your member of congress go to www.compassionindex.org/search.htm. If you would like to join me in adopting a horse please visit www.habitatforhorses.org.

Aloha and Peace,
Willie Nelson

Amy Nelson

16. Way to go Willie! If anyone reading this is from Texas, we must get Sen. John Cornyn out of office. He see's nothing wrong with killing all these horses.

17. the horses were going to mexico already Jen!
the numbers increased but overall a lot of lives have been saved since the U.S. plants closed.

as for support from the horse industry - what a joke - your "pro slaughter industry" includes those who need to throw away a paint foal for lack of spots - or AQHA for breeding more than they can sell , cull the old stock - keep breeding! - and the catllemens association..

check the list provided in in a previous comment for real horse people who are in full support of the bill

and did you happen to read the temple grandin study where it says that 80% of the horses are under age 10, 74% are sound of limb, 96% had no behavioral issues? so much for old and lame.....
also USDA states 90% are in good condition...

why dont you spend some time at www.kaufmanzoning.net or www.vetsforequinewelfare.org or another of my favorites www.flyingfilly.com - slaughter section

Watch out Jennie Hegeman, your show is going bye bye, so many people are horse lovers that they will rally against you, you are the Dolt that you call Willie Nelson, do you really think those celebs don't look into all this stuff as you obviously haven't. Go Willie, the good piece of Jennie is her stupidity will bring attention to your cause, HA!

22.
To "jennie hegeman", it seems that you are operating under the folling premises:
1. That you can reach people and turn them to your way of thinking through condescenscion and insult.
2. That stopping the slaughter of horses in the U.S. somehow "caused" their slaughter elsewhere.
3. That slaughter in the U.S. was not brutal, unethical and horrific.

On all points you are incorrect, you logic is flawed and your thinking processes lacking lucidity.

How on earth did you ever get a radio show?

23. Hi Everyone,
Jen couldn't be more wrong the fight is far from over. Until we can convince the house and senate to finally push the bill to the floor to be voted on we will not see the end of transport of our horses to over the border slaughter houses.
Each slaughter house that closed simply moved it's production to either Canada or Mexico. There is something we can do right now to help horses in danger. Pure Thoughts Horse and Foal Rescue has joined forces with other rescues to save at least 50 horses from kill during the Thanksgiving Weekend. The rescue is in the midst ofraising funds and colleting supplies for this large save. Simply spreading the word to other horse owners, rescues, and friends of horses it will help them reach their goal. www.purethoughtshorserescue.com
is the website. If veryone could pass it on it will make a difference for horses in direct danger of going to slaughter.
The rescue is a 501c3 and recently with the help of Another Chance 4 Horses went to New Holland Livestock auction. It is arguably the most notorious kill auction on the east coast. The news show Inside Edition followed them around and interviewed both rescues. They also filmed the rescues pull 3 former race horses from kill buyers hands. Of course not everyone has the room or ability to organize such a large save as the one coming up, but saving just one means a new life for that horse, and that is an amazing thing!

24. I forgot to mention you can ask the rescue to pass on a press release for the save so you don't have to spend the time to type a request up.

25. Bravo to Willie and his friends for working to save our American horses from the slaughter industry butchers in this country and abroad.

By the Dept. of Agriculture's own records, the majority of American horses slaughtered are healthy and sound. In every poll taken, the majority of Americans want horse slaughter to STOP. Only the people who make money off of the existence of the foreign-owned horse slaughter industry want it to continue in spite of the will of the majority of the American people.

For anyone who wants to ban the slaughter of our horses to satisfy diners overseas, please go to the humane society website, www.hsus.org and click on 'horses'. You will learn the truth about horse slaughter. Find out how only 5 minutes of your time will be a huge help to the horses. Every voice counts and every email counts.

26. Jennie Hegeman -

Ignorant and opinionated? Is that not what you are doing? And in the minority, at that. You are a real airhead and have no business hosting a 2 year olds' tea party, let alone a radio program - what low thing did you have to stoop to to get that job? Nasty girl - get your facts straight - you owe it to anyone who bothers to listen to you!

27. THANK YOU FOR THIS LETTER WILLIE...PLEASE KEEP THE SUPPORT COMING!!!

I am PROUD to stand behind Willie Nelson in the fight this very critical cause to help our horses! I also stand 100% behind any local horse rescue taking these horses to safety, rehabbing them and giving them another chance at life. What do they have in common? They are passionate people with a heart for our horses. Our horses need us to "speak" for them, and it's just as simple as making a call to Congress, helping a horse rescue, and telling others...SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS SO "LIGHT" IS SHED ON THIS ATROCITY.

Our Horses deserve DIGNITY and RESPECT ... not BRUTALITY and TORTURE!!! They suffer beyond our comprehension, from the moment they are beaten and scared while being bid on "by the pound" at a filthy livestock auction, to the extremely over-crowded double-decker cattle trailers they are forced into (with no place to even hold their head up), with no food and water for days of travel, then forced into a "kill chute" while they are terrified and trying to flee, then stabbed multiple times in the back to force them to their knees, then hoisted by one leg so their throats can be slit to "bleed out" ... ALL of this while they are ALIVE and CONSCIOUS... Please give that a moment to sink in.

FOR JENNIE with the radio show (who is losing her few listeners as I type this)...Before you type any more nonsense or negative comments about this cause...DO THE RESEARCH.

28. I AM 100% FOR GETTING THESE BILLS PASSED! ALMOST EVERY DAY I MAKE MY PHONE CALLS FOR THE MORNING. SO SO SO MANY AMERICANS HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THIS EXTREME CRUELTY TO OUR AMERICAN HORSES. THE ONLY WAY TO DO THIS IS FOR EVERYONE TO COME TOGETHER AND BE HEARD!!! YOU GO WILLIE!

29. Thank you Willie,
Your support of the legislation to protect equines is a big boost along with our friends Bo and the Barbie twins among others including our sweet Barbaro. As we all know, another great racehorse was slaughtered out of total cruelty, Ferdninand and also the great Exceller. As long as slaughter and the transport to slaughter is legal in America NO horse is safe, not famous race horses nor the horse in your backyard that you love dearly. Please help protect that which 80% or more Americans agree to protect. American horses are not food and especially not for EUROPEAN DINERS! It truly is America's dirty little secret, but a secret no more thanks to Willie and people like him. There are many people like myself who have raised our voices but are not heard so we needed someone to use their fame to speak up and I for one am grateful.

There never was anything humane about horse slaughter, not in the USA, not in Canada and certainly not in Mexico. But the whole time slaughterhouses in the USA (owned by Belgian companies) operated, the workers on the line were always Mexican anyway. It's been witnessed that the USDA inspector was not at the IL slaughterhouse while they were slaughtering so there was no monitoring. Lot's of dirty business going on, illegally dumping in the stream, producing more pollutants than allowed exceeding BOD limits repeatedly. And the odor at the plant was unbearable. Then there were the plants in Texas...I'll not go on. But the worst of it was the extreme torment and suffering of the horses. Let's stop it NOW! HR 503 and S 311

30. Willie, thank you so much for all that you do for our horses!

We will end horse slaughter!

And to:
jennie hegeman
host horse talk radio with jen

You need to get YOUR facts straight. Our horses have been going to Mexico to face that barbaric death even while all three horse slaughter plants were open. Please, do your research before you try to spew lies.

It's so embarrassing to have someone that is evidently on the radio talking about horses and doesn't have a clue.

Please, call your senators and representatives and ask them to co-sponsor S. 311 and HR 503; this will end the export of our horses to slaughter anywhere in the world. We must get these bills passed.
