Medical Board Wanted to Suspend Dr. Adams

The Medical Board of California filed legal papers last April asking to revoke or suspend Dr. Jan Adams' medical license because he was convicted of multiple DUIs, one in 2006, another in 2003. TMZ has also turned up a 1994 DUI conviction.

In the accusation, the Executive Director of the Medical Board states Adams "has used alcohol to the extent or in such a manner as to be dangerous or injurious to himself and others..."

We've also uncovered two malpractice judgments against Dr. Adams from 2001. One for $217,337 and the other for $250,000.

Dr. Jan Adams told TMZ last night that he "did nothing wrong" in operating on Donda West.

31. Kitty hit this right over the head. Cosmetic surgery is still surgery, and you CAN die from it. Dr. Adams is a very well-respected surgeon in the African American community and not a quack. DUIs do not have much relevance to one's abilities as a surgeon. The fact is, she shouldn't have gotten plastic surgery if she wanted to stay in the best health possible. People are acting like she's an idiot or something and would just go with whatever choices the doctor made, but she was an exceptionally intelligent woman and most likely knew what she was getting into. It's tragic that this happened, but you don't have to go seek out the blame for why she died. People die from plastic surgery all the time, even with good surgeons. That's why people really shouldn't get it unless it's absolutely necessary. I wish people would take this as an important lesson about cosmetic surgery instead of just assuming bad things only happen when you have a bad surgeon.

Let's celebrate her important life and the accomplishments she made instead of harping over her death, okay people?

32. I think West hid issures from Dr. Adams. However, what I am totally shocked by and about is that Dr. Adams is NOT board certified....hosting a program and he is not even board certified.....ridiculous and crazy.
He won't be hosting anymore.

33. This is all to familiar to me! A few years ago I had lipo and a tummy tuck done by Dr. Gilliland in Houston. He botched my surgery so bad that I now have a terrible scar and my hips are uneven, one hip has a big bulge and is way larger than the other side. My surgeon, was suppposed tio be one of the best. He is the doctor from Houston that ran his car up on the sidewalk near the Galleria and ran down those 2 women producers form the "Animal Planet" show and fled the scne, hit and run. They caught him about an hour later and he was drunk, he is in prison now. I later found out that he had several DWI's and other "drug" problems also. I think he must have been hungover when he did my surgery, I am sorry now that I didn't sue him. He even gave me more lipo a few months later to try and fix it but it did no good. The second time I had to pay the surgical center again but he did not charge me to try and fix the mess he made. Cosmentic surgery is just not worth it, I wish I had not have done it.

35. just wished the west family had done their homework about surgery/surgeon etc.
This is so trgic, but could have been avoided. I hope people thinking of surgery will learn to be cautious. I wish them all the best. She seemed like a nice lady. Tragic !

36. From a medical standpoint, IF Dr. Adams got medical clearance on this patient, assuming she might have had a preexisting medical condition, and IF the total length of time for both of these procedures (abdominoplasty and breast reduction) was less than six hours, Dr. Adams and the patient may be the victims of very bad luck. However, if no medical clearance was obtained and the patient had surgery lasting longer than a safe length of time, any reasonably competent plaintiffs attorney will cook his goose and the Medical Board of California will likely suspend his license to practice medicine. Once again we see that star qualilty does not equal surgical competence or good judgement.

37. Dr. Jan Adams claims that he "Did nothing wrong", when he did everything wrong. I work for a plastic surgeon in Ontario, and you do not send a patient home the same day after having a tummy tuck and a breast reduction. This an overnight stay, and if he did this, she would have been alive today...I am so disgusted!

39. Why is TMZ trying to cause further damage to this mans reputation without knowing all of the facts. He Should sue for slander. TMZ doesn't know the full story like the rest of us. TMZ IS OUT TO DAMAGE PEOPLE AND THEIR LIVELY HOOD. It's sad she died but if he is so bad why did she elect him for her surgeon. DON"T JUDGE HIM UNTIL THE FULL STORY IS OUT. People just want to give him a bad name because KANYES mom is the one that died. EVERY day there are hundreds of people who die from complications from surgery. It's not the doctors fault in every case. DOCTORS ARE NOT GOD.

41. my condolencses again...
but perhaps it would have been a good idea for dr west to research the doctor prior to having him do the procedure.
& perhaps she should have listened to the doctor who warned her of a possible heart attack.
you can't just blame the doctor....the patient made a conscious choice, knowing the risks, to have the procedure done.
by the way, ANY surgery/surgeon can kill you...it's all a part of the risk.
this is a tragedy & that is all it is.
you guys must be so bored to continue to beat this into the ground.
find something else to talk about!
this is the business of the west family. do you know them or something?

42. My condolences goes out to Kanye. He had no control over this situation and resulting tragedy, so stop slamming him. His mother probably thought that Jan Adams was an experienced , knowledgable plastic surgeou. He is acclaimed on an accredited Medical Show, Plastic Surgery Before and After and has appeared on Ophra. I am sure that Ms West didn't choose him blindly going dow the list of Plastic Surgeons in the phone book. How many of us do a criminal background check on our physicians. The death was a tragedy. With a surgery of this magnitude, the doctor should have insisted at the minimum, an overnight stay considering the severity of two proceedures and Ms West medical history.. All I can do is send up a prayer for Kanye and her surviving family.

44. This is what happens when someone feels they are not excepted for who they are. Maybe Kayne will see this and use it in a positive way. I'm sure He loved his mother no matter what she looked like, it's to bad the world can't love from the inside out and then people wouldn't HURT or DIE!
