Celebrity Justice
Patient to Dr. Adams -- You Botched My Boobs!

TMZ has obtained yet another malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Jan Adams, in which a patient claims she was deceived by Dr. Adams and Euclid Outpatient Surgery Center, because no one told her about all the malpractice claims against the doctor.

In a suit filed in Orange County Superior Court, Jana Beighle claims she went in for "a left breast capsulectomy." She says Adams was her doctor, and she was never told he "had an undisclosed history of medical malpractice claims and judgments."

The suit claims after the surgery in August, 2005, Beighle suffered from fluid collection and had to have her implants removed.

46. Well, no one else is gonna say it...so I will.

This is what happens when you DO NOT research your doctor. Everyone thinks, "Oh, they are a doctor, they must be good!". WRONG.

ALSO,

I'll say it..

Dr. West, "Bonita", etc. "Oprah", "Dr. Adams".......Seems to me, that Kanye's mom wanted to go to a black doctor. Who cares if he's qualified, it just matters that he's one of her own and will do the operation for her even though she's a big risk. Kanye is a racist too. Then the good Oprah, who is also looking out for her own, puts this "Doctor" on national tv because he's black too, even though he has multiple DUI's and Malpractice suits.

Great!

47. I've seen Dr. Adams operate on the discovery channel. He did a good job on the woman he performed liposuction on. He appeared both intelligent and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, most of us don't research our doctors, if we did we would be surprised. Just because someone files a lawsuit against a doctor doesn't mean they are guilty. Let the courts judge him.

52. Dr's do not have to disclose their info on malpractice. It is up to the consumer. There are PLENTY of public knowledge websites, since it is public record. Whom ever is stupid enough to get a major procedure done without investigating their surgeon or doctor gets what they deserve.

53. Thank you for concentrating on something other than VERY over-exposed BritneySpears. Everyone I've talked with says they have had enough! TMZ is apparently getting the message and reporting on other celebrity stories. Thanks!!!

54. So.. for those confused... (more at www.plasticologist.com)

here's the breakdown...

1. Finish College

2. Finish Medical School -> now you're an MD
- you can perform medical procedures and medical evaluation under a training program license. Most training programs provide malpractice insurance. You cannot practice medicine (legally) in any state in the US without additional training.

3. Finish Residency training in a particular field -> now you can become licensed.
- Once you are licensed you can "hang a shingle" and begin practicing. You can apply for hospital privileges, participate in insurance programs (blue cross) and practice medicine.
- This is where people (rightfully so) begin to get confused. ANY MD can perform ANY medical procedure. (This is _certainly_ not to say they should.. but legally they can). So an OB-GYN can perform a brain tumor excision. Now there are limits that can be imposed by hospitals (most hospitals will not grant privileges outside of your training). But surgery centers and certainly private offices may not have these restrictions. And if a physician is sued for practices outside of training they may be dropped by an insurance carrier.

(you also need to pass three certification exams between medical school and residency to become license eligible).

4. Board Certification
For plastic surgery there is only one recognized certification and that is the American Board Of Plastic Surgery. To be board certified a physician must 1. graduate from a recognized plastic surgery residency, 2. apply for the boards and take and pass a written test, 3. Collect cases for several months after which time these cases are reviewed and if deemed appropriate a second oral exam is given about selected cases the physician has performed and unknown cases.

Then they can say they are a board certified plastic surgeon.

The problem is there are many unrecognized "board certifications" (eg board of cosmetic surgery, board of aesthetic surgery, etc.) In addition physicians may say they are board certified and actually may be but maybe that certification is in pediatrics.

It is easy to get confused. And with the money more physicians are trying to capture a piece of the pie.
