Manson Expresses His Expressionism

Marilyn Manson a watercolor artist? Whoda thunk?!
And it turns out the goth rocker is just as shocking on canvas as in song.

At a exhibition Monday night in Moscow, Manson caused jaws to drop as he unveiled his latest works, including "Elizabeth Short: You're Sure You'll Be Comfortable" (a gruesome depiction of a woman with genital-like wounds all over her body), and "Alice" (a nude blonde with a pig emerging from her left breast).

"His artworks are just an extension of him," gallery owner Marat Guelman told The Moscow Times. "But they are slower and quieter and more subdued." Of course they are.

"Evil Blooms In Watercolor" runs through November 30 at the M&J Guelman Gallery. It's a good idea to visit before having lunch.

22. That's not shocking at all. It's actually cheezy to the point of being comical.

Sheesh, TMZ, go look at some real art every once in a while.

23. Someone is a little obsessed with Elizabeth Short. Though I don't understand why'd he paint her multilated body. It's sad enough what happened to that poor woman -- it doesn't need to be recreated in an 'artistic' manner.

25. First of all, the images people are commenting on are only portions of the paintings cropped, so they are being judged by people who have never even seen the paintings.
Secondly, the painting of Elizabeth Short was inspired by the famous Black Dahlia piece. Most great painters have redone other paintings such as Salvador Dali re-doing Davinci's famous Crucifixtion of Christ painting in a Surrealist style. Also, admittedly, these are not some of Manson's best works but if you have an interest check out some of his other watercolor paintings and I guarantee you'll be impressed. Finally, art has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Ask anybody if the Mona Lisa looks better in person than in a photo. Watercolor paintings do not photograph well.

26. I LOVE Marilyn Manson! He is a true creative genius! Like his music, his art reflects him. He is intelligent, creative, and gifted. You truly do need to know his music in order to appreciate his gift and creativity. He is unlike any other musician I have ever heard, and I never cease to be amazed at the quality and depth of his work, both musically and artistically. He has quite a lot to say, and there is meaning in everything he says. You just have to be willing and open enough to listen and to hear it.
