Discovery Health: Dr. Adams Is Not Our Problem!

Dr. Jon AdamsAlthough he appeared on their network, Discovery Health wants to make one thing clear: they have nothing to do with Dr. Jan Adams.

TMZ spoke with Chris Finnegan, VP of Communications for Discovery Health. He told us, in no uncertain terms, that Adams was not a part of their family anymore. "Dr. Jan Adams has not been under contract with Discovery since 2006. New episodes of the show 'Plastic Surgery: Before and After' haven't aired since June 2007. Dr. Adams is in no way affiliated with Discovery."

Finnegan did tell TMZ that a background check was done on Dr. Adams back in 2002, but he wouldn't get into specific results of the check. He was quick to point out that of the over 250 procedures performed on the show, Dr. Adams only did 10 of them.

As to whether or not they would work with Dr. Adams again, Finnegan would only say, "We have no plans whatsoever at this time to work with Dr. Adams." Smart move.

17. Plastic surgery is a little like drug use... who to blame, the user or the pusher... I think it's 50/50 but it seems like tmz dosen't think so. I'm not siding w/ the surgon or the patient, but I doubt she ever checked his background... I would. Who cares if he was on tv... that makes him legit?

19. I can't stand to hear what happened to Kayne's mother. It is awlful and should not happen to anyone. I think Operah along with NVC and Discover Health should be be harrassed until something is said or done. I just want to let you know that I am boy coting Operah, NBC, and Discovery Health until something is done. I think we all should do it.

20. Maybe the experts at good ol TMZ should have printed this BEFORE they started to bash this doctor and anyone who WAS affiliated with him.

23. Now for Oprah, what's your take on the doc Lady O?

24. #18/Reality - Double check yourself please. Dr. Adams is the Host of Plastic Surgery: Before and After. He's on every episode, introducing the stories and explaining the basics of procedures. They are saying they only had 10 episodes where he actually performed the surgery depicited.
They have NOT dropped the show ... for example, there's an entire marathon on Dec. 26. To me, that is still promoting this man and his business. Shame on you, Discovery Health.

25.

Discovery does share some responsibility for malpratice issues/cases that have or may arise while the Doc was on their show.
As for the back ground check, well they would not say what it turned up so that's a mute point untill they prove they even did one.

26. now they are not affiliated with him, like #8 said they promoted him.there just hopeing to save there on asses.

Posted at 5:07AM on Nov 21st 2007 by sorry for you

27. Oh "he ONLY performed 10 of them". HA what a crock. As if 10 of them don't matter. It is 10 too many and they shouldn't have allowed that. What was included in this background check? What did they ask him what his favorite toy as a child or something? Not much of a crocking background check. Ignorant. I will never ever trust Discovery or Oprah again. If I want to learn something, I will watch PBS. If I want a loud mouth to run off her mouth and treat others like crap, I will watch my mother. See, both of them have been replaced.

28. Discovery put him forward as an example of a good reputable Plastic Surgeon. Their airing of the program was an endorsement of his practise and a marketing of his skills and services. If they found something untoward in his background check, and as a result chose to stop doing business with him in 2006, and if their rerasons involved or directly impacted patient care, then wouldn't they have some obligation to indicate why they no longer deal with the doctor? Or at the very least to STOP AIRING THE EPISODES AT THAT TIME?

They did neither. In fact if they knew there were questions about Dr. Adams in 2006 and continued airing his episodes into 2007, it makes the situation, and their culpability even worse.

29. Discovery has squandered its credibility by letting this guy on the air in the first place. Discovery's second offense is its refusal to acknowledge its responsibility, even after being exposed, for putting this low-life on the air as a "expert." Discovery is also in the toilet for putting this quack in the position of having Donda West come to him for his "expert" care. Only by making an unambiguous apology will Discovery regain any of the huge amount of respect that it has loss. Shame on Discovery for misinforming and mistreating the public this way.
