Dr. Adams -- Donda OD? I Dunno Yet

Dr. AdamsWhen she left his office, Dr. Jan Adams says that Donda West was suffering "no problems whatsoever" -- but he does have his theories about what might have caused her death.

Adams told the L.A. Times that he prescribed Vicodin to Dr. West for pain, and that she probably had "a rough night" post-surgery. When asked if he thought she could have taken too many painkillers, Adams said, "That's one speculation on my part, yes." Adams also told the paper, "I believe I know exactly what happened to her, but I will not comment on it until I see the final report."

In an odd twist, hours after his interview with the Times ended, he called the paper to say that he had not been talking about West's case in particular -- but rather about a hypothetical patient facing similar problems.

TMZ was the first to speak to Dr. Adams after Donda West died. He told us that her death -- which followed a breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction -- was unforeseen and could have been caused by a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting.

The Los Angeles County Coroner completed a preliminary autopsy report, but hasn't mentioned drugs as having played a role in Donda's death -- the initial review found that West died "as a result of surgery or anesthesia.: They have opened an investigation.

In answer to question #1 "why didn't they keep her overnight" because our great medical coverage, even for the rich, doesn't cover overnight care for anyone unless you are near death. The health insurance companies first priorities are profit, they do not care about our health, they are a business ,that cares only about PROFIT !!!

49. This is truly pathetic. I feel for Kanye and understand the pain he will feel in the future years to come. I too, lost a parent (father) after he had surgery but, the military/civilian doctors had no clue of what was wrong. My father had a simple operation of the removal of his gall bladder. Later, the doctor's realized his heart was enlarged. He spent a full 7 days in ICU and never recovered. This devasted not only me but, my entire family. Doctor's don't always know the outcome of their patient's.

51. It seems we Americans are willing to go to great lengths to "improve" our appearances. It seems Dr. West was intent on having surgeries, but reports suggest that there may have been a pre-existing medical condition that should have precluded them. At least one reputable doc declined to operate, citing her condition and overall health. Yet Dr. West, an intelligent woman who earned a PhD. and is no slouch, apparently proceeded to search for another surgeon anyway. They call this doctor shopping. When she saw Dr. Adams's medical office with the neon sign and situated by the Kinko's FedEx, did it not give her pause? The standard of care should have been post-op hospitalization so that her condition could be observed and monitored. Dr. Adams allowed this patient to go home with only Vicodin. The post mortem will determine the true cause of death here, but clearly bad decisions were made and there was medical negligence here.

52. I had a tummy tuck and a breast lift which has a lot of cutting like a reduction and went home that day. I didn't need any morphine drip.Although I was in pain, the darvocet made it tolerable. The doctor did come by that night to see me and also called. He also made sure I had someone there to help me and take care of me.
It is pretty common practice for patients to go home after this surgery. From what I've read, the only real problem was not getting a clearance form her internist because of other meds she was taking. I'm not ready to crucify the guy until all the facts are in.

53. For the one that said I played the race card, I only reacted to what was being said, if it was not you then your defensiveness is unnecessary. I am reacting to others that have played the race card and are sensationalizing this wtihout any facts. Those folks know for whom I am speaking.
