DEA Agent Busts New Denzel Movie

New York City Drug Enforcement agents are unhappy with the way they are depicted in Denzel Washington's new movie, "American Gangster," and now one of them is threatening legal action against Universal for what he claims are "false and defamatory statements."

TMZ has obtained a cease and desist letter sent by Dominic Amorosa, attorney for Gregory Korniloff, to the General Counsel of NBC Universal, and cc'd to the President of the studio.

NBC Universal did not respond to requests for comment.

Korniloff is a retired NYC DEA agent, who is demanding a retraction of statements made in the movie. The letter claims that the movie, which portrays the life of Frank Lucas (Denzel), a Harlem heroin dealer in the '60s and '70s, incorrectly states that a third of NY DEA agents were convicted on charges related to Lucas. In addition, the letter alleges that several alleged facts in the movie are misleading, including heroin being smuggled in coffins, and the amount of money taken from Lucas' home during a raid.

Korniloff was the case agent for the DEA and "personally participated in the search of Lucas' house ... and the arrest of Lucas on that same day." Korniloff's lawyer says the way the movie portrays that search "destroys the reputation of honest and courageous public servants by deliberately misrepresenting the facts."

18. Just because a movie is based on a real person or real events doesn't mean everything in it is going to be 100% accurate. Movies dramatize things. People should know that. This legal action sounds like an overreaction.

20. It is a movie! Of the truth through rose colored glasses. Still, I don't see any on the other side of the law sewing for defaming ( the down trodden, the poor, etc.) and some of these are good people also. To somewhat quote a previous commenter. Yes there are some bad poor people. Most are honest people doing a dirty job. (surviving ) a difficult and dangerous job while constantly being defamed, dehumaned, treated like slave, shot and ask questions later rapped in lies apon lies of red paperwork arresting innocent people. I have not one seen an innocent cop get arrested mmmmm. There is nothing elite about where I come from. Cops get paid good money f(rom a poor person stand point) to do the right thing not take advantage because. And I can understand were they come from too.(some is surviving, but most is greed!) So all in all Mr. Korniloff just found a way to try to take something that he did not work hard for (Tuturo). I just like a Korny Loof.
AKA Elmer Fudd after da skrewy Wabbit!

22. I always asked myself why they would want to plant such awful drugs in communities. It's such a shame and a horrible disregard for humanity. Denzels so handsome though!

23. My man! I spent 34 years in law enforcement, much of the time I was an undercover narcotics operator or a commander of specialized units targeting narcotics traffickers. I also have seen many movies over the years and really don't believe movies that have a thread leading back to a true story are based on fact. I thought "Cotton Comes to Harlem" was based on a true story and it was very funny. I have seen and heard a lot but I throughly enjoyed American Gangster and didn't have any negative thoughts about the DEA from 35 years ago. Perhaps this guy should go see Bee Movie and relax a little.

24. American Gangster is a great movie! And crooked cops make the story more enthralling. But to post facts at the end of the movie that simply isn’t true is totally unnecessary. Now whenever people watch other movies about real people and events, they might not believe it at all – making us all cynical.

27. For whomever said that the person filing suit needs to leave Universal alone and go back to the person that sold them the story....if you had bothered to read it then you would have realized that the person that sold them the story was the main character, Lucas himself........don't you find it at all possible that he completely made up and fabricated certain parts of the story for several reasons, two of the most obvious being 1) fiction is more glamourous than truth and 2) that he's in the jailhouse, broke and needs money?????
Universal should have researched all of these facts and verified this story before they even went out and made the damn movie, something just sounds strange when someone is accused and WON'T speak about it. Haven't seen Universal coming up with a retort have you????

29. #27. Instead of watching the movie you should have been taking some English classes so you can learn to write a complete sentence.

30. American Gangster is a FABULOUS movie!
Frank Lucas was also born and raised here in the small NC town I live in, La Grange.
Its the town where his young cousin was shot by the KKK that he speaks about in the movie.
That was long ago and I have not seen any white hooded idiots roaming our streets but it does speak volumes about the pervasive and tragic racial injustices of that time.
