DEA Agent Busts New Denzel Movie

New York City Drug Enforcement agents are unhappy with the way they are depicted in Denzel Washington's new movie, "American Gangster," and now one of them is threatening legal action against Universal for what he claims are "false and defamatory statements."

TMZ has obtained a cease and desist letter sent by Dominic Amorosa, attorney for Gregory Korniloff, to the General Counsel of NBC Universal, and cc'd to the President of the studio.

NBC Universal did not respond to requests for comment.

Korniloff is a retired NYC DEA agent, who is demanding a retraction of statements made in the movie. The letter claims that the movie, which portrays the life of Frank Lucas (Denzel), a Harlem heroin dealer in the '60s and '70s, incorrectly states that a third of NY DEA agents were convicted on charges related to Lucas. In addition, the letter alleges that several alleged facts in the movie are misleading, including heroin being smuggled in coffins, and the amount of money taken from Lucas' home during a raid.

Korniloff was the case agent for the DEA and "personally participated in the search of Lucas' house ... and the arrest of Lucas on that same day." Korniloff's lawyer says the way the movie portrays that search "destroys the reputation of honest and courageous public servants by deliberately misrepresenting the facts."

31. The events depicted in American Gangster actually happened and are on public record as having occured. A kid in middle school could do a little bit of research and come up with this information. The fact that the heroin was smuggled in the coffins of soldiers has never been a secret from the public either. So I suppose this person should also sue the DEA itself for making all of this information available to the public........since it is false and all.

32. I'd think that having "NYPD" on your car or "police" on your badge is more damaging than any fictional portrayal. Trust me, the movies don't even scratch the surface of what bad people these are. And being a public agency that is not profit-driven, I don't think that they have any right to sue because they cannot prove damages.

Oh well, if they knew the law, or had any real intelligence, they would've gotten real jobs rather than being cops.

"Funny thing is you call them a pig now until you need them. "

I'm sorry, I thought that's what they are PAID to do. And what's funny too is that for every PIG that spouts off this stupid line (god forbid you ask a public servant to WORK!), for all the crap they talk about lawyers, what's the first thing THEY do when they get into trouble? Why, call a lawyer, of course.

It's the cycle of life, and I don't think that it's wrong to insist that we limit police work to people who aren't totally unemployable in an industry or business where there are real expectations.

34. Lets get real, This is a movie, alot of times in a movie they say BASED on a TRUE Story... MEANING the reality of it is that all the parts in the story arent totally true. Who is to say that everything that happened in Goodfellas, Mobsters or other movies are specifically true. Totally Bogus... People have bent the truth b4

35. #7 get a clue. The only ones defaming good honest law enforcement are the crooked cops who initiated this type of behavior in the first place. If not for these dogs noone would consider any officer of any type to be rogue. It is there fault. So, all of you good officers out there, direct your anger and disappointment to your collegues where it belongs.

36. Isn't that why it's called "FICTION"? And "BASED on a true story"? Not that every line is fact.

38. I dont care what they are trying to do but......THAT MOVIE WAS AWESOME.Denzel is such a GREAT actor. And from what I saw on the movie the cops were crooked there and the only reason why they think its some sort of defamation of character is because they want money just like they wanted money back then .......damn crooked cops.

39. I have not personally seen the movie, but I do know this. As civil servants, the DEA have a very tough and thankless job. Emphasis on the thankless. And those of you who disbelieve the letter and the motives? Think on Frank Lucas' motive. He is in prison, bored out of his mind, and he is a criminal. You don't think he wouldn't lie? It seems to me, that eyewitness accounts trump any "research" done by the movie studio. But what else is new? It's the new fad in Hollywood, portray all those who toil day in and day out serving the public in the worst light possible. Yes, there are bad people in law enforcement... just like there are bad people in every walk of life.

44. Has this DEA Agent lost his ability to rationalize, to keep a subject in perspective! American Gangster is a movie written as a story by script writers...it is not a true biography Frank Lucas or anyone else's name mentioned in the movies. White America has been making GANGSTER Movies for what, 80 years and the FBI, CIA, City Police, Military personnel have not seen it necessary to SUE for the story on how these personnel behaviors have been acted.

Nonsense, and quite possibly some racial overtones mixed with GREED to the incentive to collect money.

45. BACK IN THE 60'S 70'S ND EARLY 80'S THERE WERE LOT OF CORRUPTION BY LAW ENFORCEMENT, BECAUSE DENZEL STAR IN THE MOVIE SOMEONE WANTS TO RAIN ON HIS PARADE. CLEAN UP YOUR DEPARTMENT THEN TALK ABOUT LAWSUIT.
