NFL Star Shot in His Home, Fighting for His Life

Sean TaylorWashington Redskins Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor was shot in his home and has been airlifted to a local hospital where he is in critical condition, police said today.

"It could have been a possible burglary, it could have been a possible robbery," Lt. Nancy Perez said. "It has not been confirmed as yet."

Local authorities were called to Taylor's Florida home at 1:45 AM today. The Miami Herald is reporting paramedics found Taylor with a gunshot wound to the groin. ABC-TV 10 in Miami says a family friend told them that Taylor was shot twice.

Taylor is no stranger to guns. Back in 2005, he was accused of brandishing a gun and repeatedly hitting a man during a fight. The felony charges against him were dropped, and he plead no contest to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to 18 months probation.

16. Robbery --- Burglary, either way a bullet was involved and I just hope it's not murder, get well.

17. Once again: #4, why is it that folks like you read stories like this and don't say, "Another American has been caught up in gun violence," instead of always focusing on skin color and ethnicity? I never heard of this player, but it is a fact that when you become rich, all kinds of people come out of the woodwork to try and get their hands on some of your hard-earned money. American Idol winner Ruben Studdard went from anonymous to being ripped off to the tune of close to 100k. Michael Jackson has been sued almost to the point of extinction. Other pro athletes ( like Michael Vick) have made poor choices in friends, and even one of the original Supremes died poor because she got ripped off in life. Mary J. Blige and Billie Holliday were kept awash in drugs for years. Who profited? The NBA levels excessive fines against Black players, but again I ask, who profits? Phil Spector reportedly kills a woman, lawyers up and wins a mistrial, yet he's seen none of the opprobrium that the acqitted O.J. Simpson faces. Yet Mr. Spector's stable of artists, most notably Darlene Love and Ronnie Spector, struggled for years to get some of the royalty monies they were due. These people were not all dummies; some were young, naive and ,yes, poorly educated. So they became easy prey. Ex-Olympian Marion Jones admits her mistake, gets ready for possible jail time-- why pull the (economic) rug out from under this young woman and struggling single mother? I hate seeing Black people getting savaged in the press for minor infractions. A little perspective here, please?

18. Hope he gets better soon and lives a long and healthy life. Agree it's not a black/white issue. Bad guys come in all colors. Not saying he's a bad guy. This could be a robbery gone bad. But the inclination to believe there is more to this story is not black/white either. He's made some bad decisions - sure hope this was not another one.

19. "Damnit, Rocky, I said the 'Vicks house'... the Vicks house! You can't do _nothing_ right!"

Perhaps a guy who dabbles in crime and guns while not getting what he deserves, should at least not be surprised when it happens. Next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

20. pebbles, just my opinion, but due to the legacy of slavery and then segregation blacks were forced to do alot of business underground, such as juke joints, dogfighting, moonshine, dope dealing etc. why? well they had to make a living and because they were treated horribly by white society in general and faced lynchings, violence and harrassment at every turn they armed themselves and did what they had to do. unfortunately some of this criminal mentality has stayed in the black community and with the glamorization of " thug life" alot of young black males are falling into this horrible trap. i wish this man well and i pray he can recover. brothers and sisters please stop the violence.

22. TMZ,

He was shot in leg you dorks, he's not fighting for his life.... you guys give media a bad name...

23. Gerry, just an FYI there are major arteries in the leg, he could bleed to death from a leg ingury. Many people have died from being shot in the leg. He's probably safe now, but it could be very serious.

24. None of this is a race issue. It is a cultural issue.... Gangsta, Hip hop... bla bla bla call it what ever...white people, black people, oriental people are part of that culture (hip hop) and do the things that have a negative impact on that culture. But black people have been the most instrumental in defining and developing the entertainment aspect of the hip hop culture. Thus I think people just ( knee jerk reflex ) associate the bad stuff with blacks. Personally I hate it (hip hop) just as much or more than DISCO in the 70's, but my kids love it ( and they are brilliant intellectually) so there must be something to it and I respect that. I think it is here to stay and it is clearly evolving into a more sophistocated art form.

25. To hell with this brother. It's always going to be a black and white thing because some of us don't know how to act and were not raised right. I'm sick of all this thug crap. Someone had the nerve to say somebody is envious of this buffoon. Black folks please stop worrying about what the white man is doing and be embarrassed when young blacks are acting like complete idiots. Another thing, when you become rich, do not move back to your home state or city.

I am saddened by this, but if Sean had a trained German Shepherd by his side,it would not have happened.

28.
This isn't a racial issue, this is a man getting shot in his home issue. The reality is: if it bleeds, it leads. If Sean Taylor had been donating his time at a homeless shelter, we probably wouldn't know. Not saying that he was or wasn't just making a point. Most of the time black rappers or athletes make the news when they're committing or involved in a crime. There are many out there who don't lead that type of lifestyle, but you never hear it.
It's shameful that all black athletes, actors, rappers, etc. have to be stereotyped based on the negative stories that the media hypes up.
I'm fro Cleveland and LeBron James does all types of things for the area that we see on the news locally, but probably isn't seen nationally. However, if he committed a crime, I'm willing to bet money that it will be all over the national news.
Let's just wish Sean Taylor a fast recovery and leave race out of it.

29. Alot of you guys are missing the point. A little girls father is fighting for his life, the femoral artery was severed. My favorite football player. Put away whatever issues you have and pray for this man.

30. Shot in his groin? Sounds like a pissed off former or current GF who missed her target.
