NFL Star Shot in His Home, Fighting for His Life

Sean TaylorWashington Redskins Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor was shot in his home and has been airlifted to a local hospital where he is in critical condition, police said today.

"It could have been a possible burglary, it could have been a possible robbery," Lt. Nancy Perez said. "It has not been confirmed as yet."

Local authorities were called to Taylor's Florida home at 1:45 AM today. The Miami Herald is reporting paramedics found Taylor with a gunshot wound to the groin. ABC-TV 10 in Miami says a family friend told them that Taylor was shot twice.

Taylor is no stranger to guns. Back in 2005, he was accused of brandishing a gun and repeatedly hitting a man during a fight. The felony charges against him were dropped, and he plead no contest to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to 18 months probation.

31. Was hip-hop music being played while this man was shot? So what the hell does being black and hip-hop music have to do with anything. You wet dog smelling people (aka white people) always want to bring race into it whenever something happens to a black person. And to the poster who stated that black people need to stop focusing on you wet dog smelling people....look at all these posts and tell me whose obsessed with who? Then answer the question that was already posted, why do you all like to molest little kids and have mass shootings?

33. Ummm... actually, Taylor has been laying low and staying under the radar since the incident w/ the gun fight and ATV's. He has not gotten into any trouble recently. He has been talked about as being very interesting, intelligent and a very nice guy. I am a Redskins fan who lives in the DC Metro Area and have a lot of love for Sean as an athlete and from what I've seen of him as a person. Yes, he has made mistakes in the past, but he has come a long way. People should really get their info straight, especially before tearing down a man who is fighting for his life. The incident with him brandishing and hitting a man with a gun had to do with the fact that this man had something to do with stealing his property from his home and allegedly firing shots at Taylor's home. Not that this makes violence okay... but there is info to this story that was left out. I just "love" how TMZ puts up their articles and leaves out certain facts to make someone look like the bad guy. Luckily, I live in Redskins territory so I hear more of the REAL story.

He is an incredibly talented athlete, who is well loved and appreciated. He has a baby (who was supposedly in the home at the time of the shooting) and a family and people who love him. Some people should try to remember that.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sean, his family, friends and loved ones. I pray that he will pull through and recover well.

34. PS. FTWilliams.... Yes, he retaliated with anger at another player after derrogatory comments were made by this player (Pittman of Tampa Bay)... again, this does NOT make it okay... but he acted impulsively and has since done nothing as such!!! He has seemingly turned his life around... how can anyone judge someone like this... wish something like this on him.... due to mistakes that he has committed, and paid for, in the past. THIS IS HIS LIFE! Have a heart already!!!!!!!!!!

35. Well, it's interesting reading the different views and opinions about my post. I agree with some, but I guess because I am a white, it’s hard for me to see it from a black person's perspective, obviously. However, I still think this is a cultural issue. I’m sorry, it’s just my opinion. Right or wrong, only God knows.

36. Making everything a black/white issue is so in the past. Please get with the program and let the race thingy die.

37. An NFL player involved in a shooting. I'm shocked. But this time he's on the wrong end of the gun. That's a shame. And then he gets shot in the groin. This has jealous lover written all over it. Live by the sword, die by the sword. But what's the deal, he lives in Florida but works and practices in Washington DC? He should've been on the plane with his teammates after the Tampa Bay game. Face it Pebbles, people will always hate those who speak the truth. Bang Bang!

38. Pro athletes seem to find more than their share of trouble. Our society gives so much to those who can't handle the responsiblity of fame and fortune. Pity.

39. are you serious??!?!?! Someone broke into HIS HOME!!!!!!!???? How does that make him responsible? You are such a moron I swear!!!! Sometimes I truly wonder about freedom of speech!!!!

40. White, black, in trouble, not in trouble--he's a human being, has an infant child, and he's struggling for his life. Let's pray that he recovers, instead of this same old, same old crap I keep reading from TMZ posters.

Remember Thanksgiving? Give thanks that you're not him right now.

41. Sara #31 - THANK-YOU so much for your informed post. People on here don't have a d@mn clue how Sean T. has changed since the altercation a few years ago. He's been keeping a very low profile since then, and everyone around him, players, coaches, etc. ALL say how much he's matured and turned his life around for the better.

I too am an obsessive 'Skins fan and have always liked Sean T....through his rough patches and all. I've been so happy to see his maturation these past couple years and improvement in attitude...he's definitely one of my top five favorites on the Skins. I am devastated with this news and can only pray that he pulls through this.

To all you guys out there saying it's a race issue or he deserved this or other CR@P, I hope you look at yourselves for the pitiful human beings you are. Whether you like him or not, whether you like the redskins or not, Sean Taylor is a human being, a father, brother, boyfriend, friend, etc. and he deserves respect and our prayers while he lays in a coma fighting for his life. Get a frickin' heart people!

42. He was last heard commenting "I can't die, my boo boo's 'bout to have my baby!"

43. TIRED OF IT ALL -
Seriously, are you a complete moron? You are so totally ignorant, you have absolutely NO idea what the heck you are talking about.! So, to help you out, I thought I'd post a couple facts you can use to lessen your display of ignorance.... at least slightly

FACT 1: Sean Taylor went to the "U" in Miami....therefore, he has ties to Florida and makes his main residence there, usually in the off-season, but he was INJURED, so he was home. P.S. Many professional players don't have their main homes in the city for which they play.

FACT 2: Sean Taylor was injured (knee) these past couple games and has been at home nursing his injury. THIS is why he wasn't on the flight back to D.C. with the rest of the team...HE WASN'T AT THE GAME!

44. i can't even post on tmz anymore because of the idiots that make up these comments. You are all seriously the biggest idiots I have ever come across. For one, GERRY, it was his femural artery that was hit which is a vital artery and he lost so much blood that they fear brain damage. HE IS IN A COMA RIGHT NOW, SO YES, HE IS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE.

He also has gotten his life back together and who is to say this is even related to anything he has done?? THEY ARE CALLING IT A ROBBERY. If it was some non-famous rich family in FL where the dad got shot, none of you morons would be saying "OH IT'S HIS FAULT". So seriously, move along to the stories about Britney Spears and leave important news to the informed people. Thanks.

45. actually KL-Y-T, the majority of people in prisons are black. I'm taking a class on all that crap. While I agree with some of your post, you're making it just as black/white as everyone else and you sound like an ignorant douchebag while doing it.

"Just sayin'"
