Celebrity Justice
Brandy Almost Off the Hook

The clock is ticking for the L.A. City Attorney's Office to file criminal charges against R&B singer Brandy, who was involved in a multiple car crash that killed Awatef Aboudihaj, the mother of two boys. The first anniversary of the accident, December 30, is fast approaching, but Brandy has not been charged.

Sources tell TMZ that the City Attorney's Office plans to make a decision at the very last moment. If charges aren't filed, chances are the public wouldn't notice over the holidays -- and the case would quietly go away.

TMZ spoke exclusively with Bill Sayed, lawyer for the victim's husband, Marouane Hdidou. Sayed questioned the delay, saying, "There is a death and obviously reckless driving involved, which is enough evidence for an involuntary manslaughter charge. As to why the City Attorney has taken this long? I think we would all like to know."

Over the past year, Brandy has pursued her usual activities; shopping, partying and living a normal life. Sayed says, "Brandy continues to live life with really no negative results ... doing what Brandy is doing ... as if though nothing has occurred here." He also describes how life has become a roller coaster for his client. "Thanksgiving just passed and he was all alone -- he has no family here."

On December 30, 2006, around 10:30AM, Brandy was driving her brand new Range Rover northbound on the 405 Freeway at about 65 mph -- and didn't notice when traffic in front of her slowed down. She then hit Awatef Aboudijah's car, which veered to the left and was hit by another vehicle before crashing into the center divider. Awatef died at the hospital eight hours later, from massive internal bleeding.

196. There is an accident, probably, every 5 seconds in Canada and US. Out of a few, some are fatale. Most accidents are caused by human error...and I am not using extreme cases of DUI, car chases, etc.

Based on your theory, Sally...the prison system would be over-run with car killers...

Think about it.

197. People are charged with "accidents" ALL the time this is NOT an accident it is a collision. She was negligent and is guilty of murder.
Then she does NOTHING to remedy the situation so she is a cold hearted calculated unremorseful MURDERER.. She should be forced to have the womens kids updated pictures on her wall every day to remember the women she MURDERED>

198. She deserves to be judged by her peers in a court of law ,period .

199. Well, I knew a guy whose brakes went out, he hit a car, and killed a baby. He went to jail for it. There was no "foul play" involved... his brakes were old and worn and he lived in a state that doesn't have safety inspections. But he still went to jail for the death of that kid. Brandy should get no less.

200. Shut up # 15. This could have happened to anyone. Look at Nick Hogan for example...men are more apt to drive like a bunch of idiots than a woman!!

201. For all of you idiots who keep saying that you hope Brandy loses all of her money or how she's going to have to pay all this money to the victims... you obviously are not car owners or if you are, you've never purchased automobile insurance as required by law, or you are just idiots. Even if the family of the victim is awarded a settlement (which they should), Brandy's AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE will pay the money. That's what insurance is for IDIOTS!!!!!!

You can sue beyond the insurance policy. Besides getting her money, if she has a second house, they can get that too.

203. she has no remorse for the life lost. It sad that the family is suffering while she is partying it up for the holidays. My condolences to the husband and the little boys.

204. 86. She should be treated as you or I would be had we caused this traffic collision. But we know that hasn't happened. and won't. The Los Angeles District Attorney's office treats celebrities "special". I SMELL huge civil lawsuit. Which still leaves two children without their mother.

The kids are from his 1st marriage. She was not the biological Mother of the kids.

205. By the way Killing someone by accident you can only be charged with manslaughter...Not Murder. To prove it was a murder she had to willingly kill this woman. She may be charged with manslaughter but she should take it to trial. Since the California court system favors celebrities. She won't do any time she will only get probation. She has lived a good life and has never been in trouble. She is a Christian girl and she was not under the influence of any substance. Unlike all the white b's doing coke herion and driving drunk.

For The Record: Police want Brandy charged; .
By MTV News staff

The California Highway Patrol has recommended that Brandy (real name: Brandy Norwood) be charged in the fatal multi-car crash she was involved in late last year, The Associated Press reported Monday (January 29,2007). The CHP, which referred the case to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, said the singer/actress should be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The maximum sentence for that charge is one year in county jail, and it also carries a $1,000 fine. Prosecutors reviewing the matter told AP they didn't know when they would make a decision about whether to charge Brandy. ...

This was in Jan of 2007 what is going on? People sholud be OUTRAGED not beating around the bush. A MOTHER OF 2 IS DEAD! Her children will never know her? If any other woman driver on the road, hit a person and KILLED them (vehicular manslaughter) I'm sorry but we would be in jail and probably wouldn't get out. This story sickens me and I think there should be a lot more hype on this story. THANK YOU TMZ, every night you will BEAT it into someone's mind!

208. Brandy caused the accident and she should be charged.

Minimum charge should reckless driving, and maximum would be vehicle manslaughter. If the LA prosecutors don't charge her soon, she will be getting away with killing someone, not murder, killing. She was inattentive while driving.

My choice would be vehicle manslaughter as the first thing out of her publicists mouth was "she was not on her cell phone". WHAT!!! Of all the dumb things to say. NOT AN APOLOGY first, or words to the family "she was not on her cell phone". I really believe that. NOT! Not a valid reason to up the charge I know but the excuses for these celebrities from their publicists are mind boggling. I keep waiting to hear if they come out with ?highway malfunction?

209. First off They arent going after Brandy because she is Rich and famous cuz they havent even takin her to court. second I cant believe that she, herself is ignoring the accident. She has PLENTY of money to help the family she tore apart. How could she be so Childish when she should have been paying attention to the traffic ahead of her. All of these people saying she is Innocent are RETARDS!!! She wasnt paying attention and rear ended someone and killed them. TAKE RESPONABILITY IN YOUR ACTIONS YOU TAKE!! doen't matter if you are rich or famous, of a bum on the street beggin for money. You do something, you then have to take credit for it. DUH!!!!

210. Alexa,

I didn't write the last two posts using my screen name. You were answering one of them. Brandy should have been charged months ago though.
