Lets Get This Party Started
Britney Upstaged by Paris at B-Day Bash?

Britney Spears had a little birthday party Saturday night -- but who should swoop in to steal the spotlight? None other than ex-BFF Paris Hilton!

OK! magazine reports that Brit landed at a Bel Air mansion for a private party, which she quickly turned into her own 26th birthday bash. Accompanied by a "handful of guests," a cake was brought out, and the bday song was sung. But it was lights out on the Brit-party once Paris arrived, getting more pap love than Spears did.

Turns out the pair actually decamped together to Brit's fave sauna-stop, the Four Seasons hotel, for more champagne and picture-posing. The universe, remarkably, is still intact.

Leno Decides to Pay His Peeps

After taking serious heat for ditching his staff amidst the ongoing WGA strike, Jay Leno has stepped up -- and will pay about 100 of the "Tonight Show" staffers.

TMZ first reported on Friday that Leno didn't offer to pay the pink-slipped staffers during the strike, as late-night counterparts David Letterman and Conan O'Brien did. As of this morning, reports Variety, Leno has promised to pay up "on a week-by-week basis, out of his own pocket.

Variety also says that Leno was "caught off guard" by staff anger when his penury was revealed.

16. Sounds like Will Smith needs to go out and break a willow off and smack his own Willow with it. At 7 she has an attitude like that? She'll be throwing phones before you know it!

17. Everybody please note that TMZ is not on strike- why? Because none of them are considered writers. Rumor-mongers, storytellers, fantasy artists, etc. But, certainly not writers!

18. Jay Leno is a great guy. Can't believe everything you read even on TMZ. Strikes are not easy and in many cases folks are not given a choice and need to follow the order. I feel for all the folks caught up in this. To continue to pay folks on strike out of your personal pocket is a choice and one that Jay or any of the others should not be bullied into. Jay gives a great deal to charity and should not be beat up like this. I hope the strike ends soon for all. I would ask that people who do report be very careful on how they deliver their stories as there are going to be hard feelings at the end of the day.

19. FYI Britney was at the Four Seasons bar on Friday night with her pooch and her pal Jamie Cullem. They were sober and well behaved.

21. SuziON, I love X17 also. To many angry people like to come to this site and argue and bash people for the hell of it. Britney will always have more fans than TMZ.

Posted at 9:42AM on Dec 3rd 2007 by Teri

Why would you assume that people who bash are always angry. That is like saying that all the ass-kissers are always happy. You don't know that. You're just guessing. As far as the skank always having more fans than TMZ, well, when are you going to post those figures. Oh, that's right, ya aint got none, cause there aint none. It's just your opinion and wish.

22. 3. Why would Leno pay his writers? Why would any of them? They chose to go on strike, stopping shows from filming, and there are no consequences. What bargaining chip do they have if they aren't out any money? They could continue to go on with this stupid strike forever, being paid to sit at home. Crap! They should fire all of them, and rehire new ones, that aren't big babies. If you don't like your job, easy enough to find another one. Quit your bitching.

Posted at 8:56AM on Dec 3rd 2007 by Don't get it

Don't get it, he's not paying the writers. He's paying the crew and other employees (i.e. Camera operators, lighting people, gaffers, grips, sound people and all those other behind-the-scenes-people you never think about) who are innocent victims in this whole ordeal so that they don't have to explain to their children why Santa didn't bring any gifts this year. And frankly, Leno SHOULD feel an obligation to pay these people. They've been the ones responsible for the magic that happens behind the scenes of The Tonight Show--HIS show--some for many years.
And as for the writers--Damn skippy, they should strike! You know why? Have you flipped through the channels on your television, lately? We're overrun with reality tv. You know why we're overrun with reality tv? It's way cheaper to produce because, *drumroll, please,* you don't have to pay real writers and actors! Writers had been losing jobs by the minute. AND, when they were still applying their talents to their network positions pre-strike they weren't making nearly the amount of money they deserved despite the gross amount of income the networks and their execs generate. If I was one of those writers, you bet your sweet ass I'd be striking, too. So to call them babies and bitchers is pretty mean, thoughtless, and ignorant. You say that they should go out and just get another job, as if it's so easy. Why would you go from one job where you were underpaid and underappreciated to another where you would be treated with the same level of disrespect?
You are right about one thing, though: You really don't get it.

23. Paris never gets more paparazzi attention than Britney, TMZ just plays favorites
no joke, that is the most unprofessional and completely stupid article I have ever read
whoever wrote that should be fired, what grade are you people in?
Seriously, grow up and tell the truth for once

26. Penny I so agree-the old days stars were STARS not these bimbos making pronos and being disgusting! What is sad is that it this trash is lapped up by the sad American people :(

27. To MisanthropicGirl:

Apparently there are too many writers around causing salaries to go down. The best writers are paid very well because they are in demand. Obviously you are not that talented and should pursue a career change. If you want socialism, go to a socialist country! There is no relationship between writers' salaries and those of the others involved in the production. Salaries are based on the laws of supply and demand. Unions are losing ground every year and it's about time.

28. As for Britney, she didn't have a birthday bash. No one threw a party for her. No one cares enough to do that. They crashed other peoples events and did everything possible to get all the attention, using the real events' guests as a backdrop so she would look popular. It's no surprise that Paris would take advantage of the situation and use Brit's "party" for her own publicity. They all got what they deserved. Two lonely fake divas looking for attention.

Posted at 7:25AM on Dec 4th 2007 by Wiley

29. Wiley - What are you, an exec for NBC? Maybe you should fully read and understand what I'm writing before you insult me. First of all, I'm not a writer--I'm a video post-production specialist. If you're to assume I'm a writer and a Socialist, should I assume you're some gasbag network executive? Maybe I ACT like a Socialist at times, but at least I don't pretend to be a mind-reader. And furthermore, this is America. I'll say or go wherever the hell I want. Secondly, I never once stated that there was any relationship between the salaries of writers and other production staff. It's obviously a fact that, because the writers have gone on strike, other employees that DO NOT WRITE are losing their jobs. Can you understand that fine, or should I spell it out for you? I think it's quite clear, unless you're a brainless twit, to see that I was responding to someone else's post when they questioned why Leno should pay people to keep working on his show--this person thought Leno was dipping into his pockets to pay writers, and not the other staff such as camera operators, lighting people, receptionists, and such. You think these other people should lose their jobs just because the writers went on strike, for which they have every right, actually? I had no idea that doing the fair and ethical thing for your employees was a Socialist move, but I suppose it is in a Capitalist country.
You're so quick to say that there are too many writers. Did you ever stop to think that maybe there's just too much garbage on television? And even if there WERE too many writers, that doesn't mean they all had jobs before the strike. I'm sure many of them are striking with the employed only to show their support.
You contradicted yourself when you said that "salaries are based on the laws of supply and demand." What actually IS apparent is that, ever since the reality-based t.v. revolution, the demand for good writers (or ANY writers, for that matter) has sharply declined. If there are too many writers, then obviously there wouldn't be a job for every one to fill--and logically how could there be too many writers working if there has been a decline in the number of jobs out there for writers in television? And of course the best writers are paid the highest salaries. But then again, there were probably only a handful of them employed since THERE'S NOTHING MUCH OF MERIT ON T.V., ANYMORE. You think they'd hire an insanely good writer and pay them tons of cash to script a show such as, say, Flavor of Love? No, they're going to hire a two-bit crap writer so they can pay them a two-bit crap salary. And shows like this are popping up ALL OVER THE PLACE! Meanwhile, many GOOD writers find themselves out of work or because there are barely any good shows anymore which require talented, clever writers. Not every writer is going to be a small-screen Hemingway--there are plenty of talented writers who have been slowly squeezed out of the industry because there's no work for them, anymore. And it's not surprising that the union is losing ground--because money talks.
