Leno Flips: OK, I'll Pay Everyone

He totally screwed with us -- in a funny way -- but last night Jay Leno also set the record straight about the financial controversy regarding his "Tonight Show" employees.

Watch the video to hear Jay's side ... and no, we weren't having problems with our audio -- turns out Jay is part mime.

Jay's about-face is in contrast to what his rep told TMZ on Friday night -- that Jay was "more than generous" by giving his staff a Christmas bonus.

31. People - this is like a really painful segment of Jaywalking. I guess public forums are public because anyone can contribute crap, but if you don't know the facts then your opinion has to be biased.

I've been a TNT staff person for over twelve years. It's a fine place to work - most of the senior staff has been there for a lot of years, many from the beginning - because Jay is a joy to work with, the workplace atmosphere is good, and we are well treated by the "terrible" Mr. Leno. The true measure of a person is NOT the size of his pockets - it's heart. Jay has always been there to help in times of need - with money and work - for staff, friends, acquaintances, and many causes and charities. When a thief steals the Boys' Club Xmas goodies guess whose check is there - quick & quiet.

A fast note to those Tonight Show staffers who've been posting Jay hate mail here - please don't bother coming back ! We'll try to do without you. Or are you masochists? Are there no other places to work? Why do you stay at such an awful place?
The rest of us enjoy working on the show, consider Jay to be a great guy, and have no problems with his generosity. If you need proof of generosity look where all his book(s) profits go.

NBC gives us "thank you" greeting cards, Jay gives us cash. And - Steve (#27) - any cash comes from his own pocket. His company has one source of income - him - so money from his company is (repeat after me) money from his pocket. And no - most of those bonuses were much more substantial than a couple of hundred bucks - depends on how long you've been there. And I am NOT a writer (that should be obvious:).

No - Jay is not perfect - he can screw up, and has screwed up - but overall he's always protected his staff - writers and non-writers alike, and has treated us like part of a family. A dysfunctional family, but a family nevertheless. NO EMPLOYER OWES YOU MORE THAN A PAYCHECK - AND HE'S NOT OUR EMPLOYER - so any monetary rewards are "over and above".

A last note to "Cheryl" - we all know who you are - you always did creep out young (and not so young) women - really glad you don't work at TNT anymore - it's been a much nicer place without your drooling countenance.

32. If Conan wasn't payin' ... Jay wouldn't be playin'. It's as simple as that.

33. I think Jay is more than fair.......he is not the one striking but yet he chooses to pay people who are striking.....he's a great guy..............

34. Too bad he caved in. Those greedy writers don't deserve a penny more!

35. Nice of you to post, #31, but these people are beyond stupid. How they have not fallen into a ditch and died already is beyond me. No matter how many time facts are stated, they still go on about contradictory rumors. It is the Jaywalking all stars!
