Fashion
From Brit to Liza, Fur Flies for Femmes

Looks like some celebs still aren't hiding from wearing a dead animal -- in the name of fashion.

Even as the anti-fur movement gets more vociferous, TMZ -- in just one weekend -- spotted Britney Spears, Liza Minnelli, Eve, Mary J. Blige, Sharon Stone and even Madonna fur-nished with all manner of fur-ish coats. We're told that Britney proudly took her shagerrific (and very real fur) coat at her birthday party in Bel Air.

PETA, as ever, took Liza to task for her outerwear, telling TMZ in a statement that it "hopes that Liza, who abstained from fur for years, gets back on the wagon of compassion." As for Sharon Stone, the anti-fur brigade was less charitable, saying, "Put your fur coat away, Sharon."

Reps for Eve, Sharon Stone, Liza and Madonna haven't yet gotten back to us about the provenance of their clients' coats.

One notable exception -- Sarah Jessica Parker, wearing a lovely Star Wars-esque fur coat, usually, we're told, wears fake fur.

79. Post # 73, you won't have a real tree at Christmas because it's dead, what about living in a house made of wood? Two faced eh?

80. Once you see a fox or puppy or gerhman shepherd (yes dogs like your pet) held in a head lock and skinned alive you can never look at the fur industry the same again. The same horrific treatment of animals are given the same skinning of their skins( not ours) often still alive. Please go to PETA and you can view the undercover work that is done so you can know the truth and stop promoting animal suffering by NOT buying fur. Janet

83. Listen up Folks!

Animal skins are warm and they biodegrade - wooo! They are earth kindly. Great, here's something we can all understand - Chavs wearing track suits are a sartorial nightmare and those plastic-ish threads they are made from have a half life of five million years (Yes chavs and track suits are made from plastic (I know my grammar kid)). So, wear things made from cotton, wool, fur, silk, cashmere, mohair and especially tweeds.

84. I know some of you are total vegans, and that gives you, and ONLY you the right to protest fur. The rest of you, like me, may not like the fur industry or the way the animals or killed, but as long as we eat chicken sandwiches and grill steaks, we have no right to say a word. Don't eat meat but love your Coach bags? Enjoying those leather Nikes or Birkenstocks? Get over yourselves and visit a slaughterhouse or chicken plant before you ream these people for sporting fur coats.

85. Cruelty is cruelty no matter what form it takes or who it's victim is. It is and has been a reality that is alive and well since man began to walk on this earth. It will never change. I am not a religious person, however I see this as good versus evil. It is evil to intentionally cause harm or suffering to any living thing whether it be human or animal. And it is good to take personal responsibiltiy and treat all living things as you would want to be treated. This is not meant to be an extremist view although to some it may seem so. Being kind seems to me to be a basic concept that all should try to follow.

86. It is my opinion that as long as ALL of the animal is used then it is not cruel. Now I know some of the killing methods could probably be more humane, but as long as all of it is utilized I don't feel it has died in vain. Could you imagine how over populated and dieseised (sp?) the world would be if these animals weren't used for food and other things???

87. HEY PETA SUPPORTERS:

PUT YOUR ENERGY TO GOOD USE. SUPPORT THE RIGHTS OF THE UNBORN. THEY ARE PEOPLE, WHO ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

88. Robin, I see what you're saying but in the fur business these animals are skinned and tossed in a big pile and then trashed. It's really heartbreaking. At least in the meat business you can say that the animals are used for nourishment, but in this business, the animals are dying for what? Tacky trim on some ugly jacket. Really sad. I wish people would stop saying God put these beings here for us to exploit. People who think this also probably think its ok to pollute and trash the earth, because hey, its all about us right?

89. Jerry having a house that is partly made of wood is an almost necessity, having a dead tree in my house is decoration only, so pointless, your point is dumb. I will not have a dead tree in my house at Christmas and I will never wear a dead animal.

90. You are so right, Jesus H. Christ. I'm allergic to wool but cotton, fur and silk are all on my fave list but you forgot leather. You might also want to consider linen and ramie.
What do you make of these idiots who are complaining of animals being skinned alive? Even in a headlock, any animal is going to squirm, bite and claw. Even if you can protect yourself from the claws and teeth, the squirming would destroy the fur. Anybody who doubts this should try to give a cat its medicine.
