Star Catcher
Connick Jr. to Fan -- It's Never Going to Be You

A fan in NYC finally caught Harry Connick, Jr. yesterday, after trying for 20 years to get a photo with him -- looks like he may have to wait 20 more, as Connick completely blew him off!

Also in New York -- a bundled up Madonna, bubbly bantering buddies Eva Mendes and Anne Hathaway, caped crusader Rosario Dawson, John Cusack and a fur-lined Nicollette Sheridan.

All this and more in today's "Cold Shoulder" edition of Star Catcher NY.

61. I'm calling BS on this one. That was obviously paparazzi looking for an easy photo. And HC recognized it for what it was. The paps are totally out of control - just check out the one of Britney buying coffee at Starbucks - it's ridiculous.

62. How sad.....He seemed like he was down to earth.....

63. I can't believe it would take so much time to get one picture. All of a sudden he's God? That person buys his albulms and makes him his money. I will not waste one more cent on that man. If he can't take the time to give a picture to a fan, then why should I want to own anything by him?

64. Maybe HC is shy and the paps were making him nervous, but when a fan asks you for a pic (with him) and lets you know he's been wanting one for 20 years, HC should have been GRATEFUL enough to give him his 10 seconds for that pic. Is he grateful??? NO. The problem is that all celebs today are GROSSLY OVERPAID and OVER PAMPERED and they believe that they deserve everything that they have and that they are ENTITLED. Well, what they are REALLY ARE, are spoiled rotten SNOBS who think that they are better than everyone else. HC might be a "nice" enough guy, but only on his OWN terms and when it's convenient. The truth is, he is stuck on himself and he is BORRRRRRING.

65. Wondering where Harry was off to in such a hurry?
He was either running late for the world premier of his new movie, P.S. I Love You and didn't want to keep his co-stars, the press, and the thousands of fans who showed up for the Red Carpet walk waiting on him ~OR~ was running late on the way back to his flight home.

Does Harry carry a GUN with him?
Um, no...got one as a gift from his sister and didn't put it through the proper channels at airport security. This was 12/28/92. Almost 15 years ago, people. Kind of a stretch to pick on him for this, doncha think?

Frank Sinatra or Bobby Darin impersonator / "wannabe"?
In 1989, the "When Harry Met Sally" soundtrack (Harry's exclusively) ~ featured many standards recorded by these legendary crooners previously. Although Harry has a style completely his own, he was given a lot of undeserved criticism at the time for "impersonating" crooners from the past. Anyone who knows his music knows his talent has grown with him. The proof of this would be in the 24 albums that Connick has released during his career.

Overpaid? Selfish? Pampered?
Harry Connick, Jr. is one of the most selfless, generous, and down-to-earth celebrities in existence. After the levees broke, when no one else could get there, Harry found a way. Wading through the murky, infested waters to rescue people from their porches and getting the attention of the national media (NBC) in the process, he prayed over the dead, distributed supplies, and helped local rescue workers organize their efforts. All while sleeping in a rental car with his friend and fellow celebrity, Branford Marsalis. Several months later, Harry and Branford co-created the Musicians' Village with Habitat for Humanity, which Harry physically works in whenever he's in New Orleans. And finally, all of the profit from his song, "All These People" and a portion of the proceeds from both albums he's released and every concert he's had since Katrina have gone to help his hometown.

The way he treats his fans...
I have been an AVID fan for 17 years. I've been to many, many concerts and have been lucky enough to meet Harry after some of these concerts. During the shows, however, every single one of these shows, Harry is ALWAYS incredibly gracious, humble, and playful with his audience. Hardly a diva, he plays with the audience so much that he frequently gets flack from critics for his witty banter.

Now, would I like to have a photo of myself with Harry? Sure! He's hot stuff...but I'll never be less of a fan because Harry's MANAGEMENT doesn't allow photos at concerts or public events.

Why didn't he stop for ONE LITTLE FAN'S CAMERA??
Can't speak for Harry, but I do know his personality and his background pretty well...since he was with his beautiful wife Jill (and they were running late), naturally, he did not want to stop on that dimly lit, unpopulated side-street.

Still not convinced? Here is the FanSpace I created in his honor: http://myspace.com/harryconnickjrfanspace ~ check it out. Bet you find out something about Harry that you like.

And my 2c worth of free advice to this "20 year fan of Harry's" is to purchase concert tickets the next time Harry comes 'round. Not only will you be treated to one helluva show (Harry's concerts could rouse one from a coma) but you might get a minute to tell Harry how much you appreciate him.

66. For someone who (as YOU put it) "can't speak for Harry", you sure as hell like to try... and you ALMOST had me persuaded... UNTIL you gave your LOUSY 2 cents worth of advice... Oh, sure Harry can be a human being to his (as YOU put it) "LITTLE FAN" as long as there's something IN IT for HIM... meaning that if the "LITTLE FAN" buys the concert ticket FIRST, then MAYBE Harry will let him speak to him. Lady, your 2 cents worth of advice is worth just that... 2 cents. KEEP it... and you know exactly WHERE you can put that 2 cents... You can stick it where the sun don't shine.

67. Maybe Harry just couldn't believe that someone could actually be a FAN of his for 20 years... I know I'm NOT. Frank Sinatra impersonator... Bobby Darin wanna be! Harry Connick Jr, YOU ARE NO BOBBY DARIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

68. so wait... harry jr. helps out new orleans and is generally regarded as a nice guy and then he tells ONE person he's running late (who was probably paparazzi trying to trick him) and now you think he's a terrible person? grow up. maybe if stupid people like you would stop worshiping celebrities the paparazzi wouldn't follow them around so much, and thus, be more inclined to take a picture with someone when they ask. what's more important? helping out flood victims or having a picture taken? it's clear what most of you think in this case- having his picture taken. how pathetic and sad.

69. HEY Today'sCelebsDon'tImpressMeInTheLeast: you're an idiot. try being a celebrity for as long as he has. see how you like cameras in your face 24/7. see how you like 'fans' thinking they have the right to bother you whenever they feel like it. see how you like being treated like a public servant. see how fast you get sick of people lying to you in order to get a picture of you. see how fast you get annoyed of people bothering you when you're trying to have a nice night out with your wife. why is it that celebs are 'grossly' overpaid, as you put it? because people like you are obsessed with them- you want pictures and interviews when you say, regardless of what the celeb is doing. julia roberts is on her way to a funeral? too damn bad... i want a picture and i want it now. i've paid to see some of her movies so she owes me. THAT'S WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE. have some respect for people.

70. one more thing. when you buy a ticket to his concert, that's exactly what you're buying- A TICKET TO HIS CONCERT. it sounds like you don't get it. you pay money to see him sing, harry sings. end of story. he owes you nothing more. it's the same for all other celebs. you think just because you watch an actor or actresses movies that they 'owe' you a picture or an autograph? no, they don't. you pay ten dollars for a movie ticket and you get to watch a movie. end of story. you seem to think that just because someone's on the big screen, they owe you their time whenever you want it. that's just ridiculous and rude. get over yourself.

71. Hey #66: I'm just one little fan, too! I wasn't insulting this "fan". But who claims to be a fan of any musician for that long and doesn't attend concerts? Seriously!?

And #67: I'm so sorry that Bobby Darin passed away so long ago and that Frank Sinatra is no longer with us, either. If you think they are wonderful and legendary (which they are) and that Harry is an "impersonator" of their music, then you've not heard anything he's done in the last 18 years. You sound like such an angry person. What a shame.

Harry, I mean, "Happy Holidays!!"

72. Nichole, I'd be careful throwing around word like "stupid" and "idiot" if I were YOU. Why do you find it so necessary to defend HC, anyway? He's a BIG boy. He doesn't need his "LITTLE FANS" like YOU to defend him... or DOES he? I've already stated that the celebs of today are NOT worth what they get and that I am NOT a fan of ANY of them. YOU, obviously are the one who thinks that they are worth worshipping by buying their cds and concert tickets and then letting them blow you off whenever they want to. When I chastised him for ignoring his fan, I was puting myself in the celebrity's place... NOT the fan's. If I were a celeb, I would be GRATEFUL for my fans. Ten seconds to have a pic taken with him would be a no-brainer, as my appreciation for the fan would make it a no-brainer. You, however, put yourself in the FAN'S place and assume that you would think the celeb owes you something. That's the difference between you and me. Looks like YOU are the one who needs to grow up, little girl... and stop worshipping idols.

73. it's funny. i'm not a fan of harry connick jr. i own not one of his cd's and have never been to any of his concerts. the only time i've heard him sing was a few years ago for a christmas special. i just think it's hilarious how idiots like YOU assume things... and assume you're right about everything. but hey, thanks for the laugh!

Posted at 1:55AM on Dec 14th 2007 by Nicole A

74. Nicole, YOU are the one who accused me of being a fan... and based on what??? NOTHING, as I had already PLAINLY stated that I am NOT. Talk about making assumptions!!! Guess I'm the one who should be laughing at you! YOU, on the other hand wants to defend HC. Fine... have at it. You can say ALL YOU WANT, that you're not a fan, but your defense of him makes you just as culpable. Now, remember what I said to you about using the word "idiot"???

Posted at 9:38PM on Dec 14th 2007 by Today'sCelebsDon'tImpressMeInTheLeast

75. i did not accuse you of being a fan. i said it was apparent that you 'expected' things from celebrities, but i never said you were a fan. there's where those critical reading skills would come in handy ;-) i also said people *like* you are obsessed with celebrities... and obsessed does not necessarily mean that you're a fan of them anyway. seriously, check out those classes. this is why it's so easy for me to use terms like 'moron' and 'idiot' when referring to you. and, in this case, i'm not defending harry connick jr per se, i'm defending a person's right to privacy and i'm pointing out how ridiculous and self righteous people like you are. duh.
