Ike Turner Has Died

ike turnerTMZ has confirmed that music legend and the former Mr. Anna Mae Bullock has died. He was 76.

Turner apparently died in his home in San Marcos, Calif., just outside of San Diego.

Sources close to the family tell TMZ he may have died in his sleep.

TMZ caught up with the R&B star back in May after the legend spent a night in jail after his bogus arrest over a recalled 1989 warrant.

Ike was married four times, most famously to Tina Turner. The famous singing duo had seven top ten R&B songs and famously divorced in 1978 amidst his constant abuse towards her.

Ike has four known children: sons Ike Jr., Michael, Ronald and daughter Mia.

The Recording Academy issued the following the statement about Turner's passing: "There is no doubt that Ike Turner was one of rock and roll's great architects with his genre-defying sound as an instrumentalist and bandleader ... As a two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and recipient of The Recording Academy's 2004 Heroes Award, Ike's legacy as a groundbreaking pioneer in the music industry will never be forgotten."

91. Ike may have had his ups and downs and may have not been the sharpest knife in the drawer but we must all admit that he was a good entertainer and the "Ike & Tina Review" was once the best entertainment one could enjoy on the Black circuit. I am saddened by Mr. Turner's passing and it is sad that respect for him is not shared by this site while calling him "Mr. Anna Mae Bullock". I believe that Ike made a name for himself in the music field when he was with Tina... he did have problems in anger management and practiced "old-school" tactic by beating his woman due to jealousy and his inadquacies that lead him to feel threatened by Tina's notariety and fame. Little did he know that he and Tina made the show and the audiences loved the idea that they performed so well together as a husband and wife on stage. May God give peace to his soul and render unto him a final resting place in the heavens.

92. Ike wasn't an angel, but then niether was Tina, they were show folk, everythings always a " show" that movie was a show, at best good entertainment, hardly factual history, black women didn't get " beaten" back in the day, without beating back.

Tina always had a passion for white boy's, which is why Ike couldn't have "white " boys in the band.

97. It makes me nauseous watching people defend this piece of dead crap.

I bet once he's buried and they publicize where his grave it, it'll get peed on a lot. I know I'd like to.

98. Over and over, it is the same people being negative. I know we all have a few demons in our closets. His was known, that is the difference. From what is said by some of the man's friends, he wasn't all that unkind. He did have a heart also for the people he cared for. I do believe he cared for Tina also, but the drugs were his demon that created the monster in him which unfortunately was unleashed on Tina. She also aided and abed this problem, due to the misunderstanding of drugs in that time. I agree that he should have the ability to rest in peace now and enjoy the ever afters. We all have the same to be forgiven and he has to answer for his own demons, not be continued to be persecuted in death.

My Rocket 88
by Ike Turner and recorded by Jackie Brenston

You may have heard of jalopies,
You heard the noise they make,
Let me introduce you to my Rocket '88.
Yes it's great, just won't wait,
Everybody likes my Rocket '88.
Gals will ride in style,
Movin' all along.

V-8 motor and this modern design,
My convertible top and the gals don't mind
Sportin' with me, ridin' all around town for joy.
Blow your horn, Rocket, blow your horn

Step in my Rocket and-don't be late,
We're pullin' out about a half-past-eight.
Goin' on the corner and havin' some fun,
Takin' my Rocket on a long, hot run.
Ooh, goin' out,
Oozin' and cruisin' and havin' fun

Now that you've ridden in my Rocket '88,
I'll be around every night about eight.
You know it's great, don't be late,
Everybody likes my Rocket '88.
Gals will ride in style,
Movin' all along.

100. Wife beater. Make no excuses for any man that strikes women or children. His business achievements are nothing compared to his cowardice and weak character. Thank God Tina is a strong spiritual woman.

101. It amazes me that how some individuals that claim empathy for one human life can be so demoralizing and hateful to one who has passed away. No, I don't condone Ike Turner's behavior and probably would have broken my foot off in his butt if Tina was my sister, yet still people change and there is a measure of good in everyone. Has any of you that have sent in such hateful and inhumane comments had any real insight on Ike or had a chance to talk to the man? I doubt it, but you hang onto what you saw in a movie or read in some rag / tabloid. You can't get sweet and bitter water from the same fountain, so which one are you? Out of the abundance of your heart speaks your mouth so it stands to reason that many out there that judge one man is probably judging many and yet still won't look at that person in the mirror long enough to reveal what lurks in their own hearts that would enable them to cheapen the death of someone that they don't even really know. Yeah we know Ike was less than perfect to say the least. But what about you or someone along your family line? You have no compassion for Tina, you're just using her situation with Ike to vicariously vent your own personal woes.
