"Real" Househusband Tries to "Quiet Demons"

Matt Keough faced off with an OC judge in court today, but his arraignment on a DUI probation violation was postponed. Now he may be blaming his tragic ballpark accident for Matt's troubles.
TMZ was inside an Orange County courtroom where "The Real Housewives of Orange County" star was supposed to enter a plea for violating his probation -- by drinking in a Newport Beach hotel.

Today, family attorney Dan Grigsby recounted to TMZ the cruel twist of fate during Matt's baseball career sent him on a downward spiral.

Back in 1993, Matt was playing for the Angels. He was sitting in the dugout when a player for the Giants connected with the ball for a bullet foul, striking Matt in the right side of his head. Matt underwent brain surgery and that's when his substance abuse problems began.

Grigsby said Matt began self-medicating, adding, "He's trying to quiet the demons as a result of the brain injury."

The arraignment was put off until January 14.

46. First of all, this story is about Matt: for all of you "medical professionals", it's called ABI, or Acquired Brain Injury, and yes, it can change your personality, your future, your life...assuming it doesn't kill you. If it's true that Matt wasn't even driving, then this cop was looking to get on Bravo TV; this couldn't be more sad. Jeanna has put up with a lot, but forgive me for believing in the "til death do us part". I'm hardly a kid and had a husband who left me after 20 years after I had a heart attack (at 37 years old, trying to help make my whole family's life better) and was never the same. Panic attacks, social insecurity, agoraphobia...again, this is about Matt. In his day he was a great ball player. In one short instant his career and his future were both taken away from him, NOT because he drank (and, you who hate, alcoholism IS a disease) but because a very fast wild tip of the bat sent a ball flying at nearly 100 mph into his head. I think he does the best he can by trying to make children understand the meaning of staying in school, choosing sports over drugs, etc. It must be hard for him to get up every day and spend the rest of his life trying to help young people.

I do have one question, though, and that is about Laurie. What DID happen to her son? I don't recall seeing or hearing about this and I've wondered how he is or what he's doing. Also, when she speaks of her 9 year old daughter, "the only child who has never let me down"...SHE'S NINE YEARS OLD! Give her time. (I hate being so cynical, but how must her other children feel?)

This whole situation is tragic. Thank you.

47. If you have ever watched the reality show his wife appears on, his oldest son has said that he was a different person before the accident. Injuries like this often, unfortunately change peoples personalities causing severe stress and heartache to the family and the person who was injured. While I do not feel as though drinking is a way to solve problems, no one knows what he or his family have gone through. Who are we to judge or say that we would be handling things any differently?

48. I watch The real housewives from the O.C and his wife Jeana says that ever since she gained weight he treated her different, she is always saying that but she NEVER mentions the fact that he had a serious brain injury, maybe this was the problem , now I understand more why he is the way he was on the show. Poor guy. I hope he can recover from this.

49. Let's be kind and remember it's Christmas. Hopefully, he will finally get the help that he needs and be able to live his life. None of us actually know what hell he went through and we all should pray that we never personally have to go through anything like that ourselves.

52. #44,the local paper here in Orange County, CA has a columnist that kept a log running saga on the life of Laurie's son, after she dumped her own son to live in denial with the guy with money. Since she dumped him publicly and painfully on the show, the kid has been in prision in San Diego County for grand theft auto, among other things. He went to live with Laurie's new big'spender boyfriends ex-wife out of deperation, because he had no job, no money, and his Mom wouldn't let him live in her EMPTY townhouse, nor with her at her new boyfriend's mansion.(she wouldn't even consider putting him up in the horse barn at the boyfriends 200 acre ranch, for God's sake!) In the meantime, her 9year old daughter now has a horse, riding lessons, and lives like a princess. Laurie must just hate men! The columnist was an expert at exposing the greedy, hypocritical Laurie. Bravo and Laurie must have given him some kilnd of legal grief, because he was temporarily silenced on the issues he said. Sometimes he writes about the show, but not as much as before.

53. I work in a rehab for people with brain and spinal cord injuries...what he is going through is typical, unfortunately. this is the kind of stuff you never read about in the papers after the fact. When you read about people who get into bad accidents or have injuries of this nature, it always says that they survive, but you never hear about how it can destroy them anyway. it's truly sad how little compassion people show here. judge not, lest ye be judged...you don't have to be religious to understand that.

56. The point is, Matt Keough's personal problems wouldn't have gotten so much press if his fool of a wife hadn't paraded the whold family in front of the TV cameras for three friggin years. She wanted the fame for her family, now she's got it:it's called INFAMY. Poor Matt!

58. I started watching the show when I saw Jo's big luscious natural Peruvian breasts, but then got hooked on watching these women torment, browbeat & shame their men as well as peddle their wares. Think about it, they're all selling something; Matt's wifey is selling her "realtor" skills, the psychotic blond is selling her "insurance" pyramid scheme, & Laurie is selling her ass. Laurie scored big & must taken her new boyfriend's chin taken off & had it implanted in her face b/c it looks like she had a brick bolted on it.
I laughed when a previous poster mentioned Laurie's crying & face not moving from the gallons of Botox injected in it. Never seen anything quite like that!

59. Money talks-that is one of the reasons he only got probation for the first accident and running somone over.THE MONEY IS BEHIND IT ALL AND OF COURSE HIS HEAD INJURY. tHEY WILL BRING ALLTHIS OUT IN COURT AND IT WILL PROBABLY BE DISMISSED. THE COPS COULD LESS ABOUT SOMEONE BEING ON PROBATION AND RREALLY DO NOT KNOW WHO IS ON PROBATION. HE WASDRUNK AND BEING MOUTHY AND A SMART-ASS AND THE BARTENDER OR SOMONE AT THE BAR CALLED THE LAW. THIS IS BEING COVERED -UP BECAUSE OF THE "REAL HOUSEWIVES" SHOW-----THEY HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT BEING A HOUSEWIVE THEY SHOULD OF NAMED THT SHOW SOMETHING ELSE. HE IS A WASHED UP LOSER, AND HE HAS ALWAYS DRANK AND POPED PILLS ESPECIALLY AFTER HIS ACCIDENT
