I am Jewish and I did not find this comment offensive because I am able to apply context to what I'm reading. I am very sorry that you can't. It makes for a difficult life.
Historical lesson for you--Hitler believed he was fulfilling an important mythological destiny--the "final solution." He sincerely believed his plan was divinely inspired. The fact that he was dead wrong and a sociopath doesn't change the fact that he thought was he was doing was good. Will Smith was merely pointing out how warped rationalization can be--he was in no way endorsing Hitler's activities as good. Choose to be offended if you wish, but this constant desire to be a victim that western culture seems to be cultivating is really annoying and childish.

His "SCHMITLER" remark is simply his way of letting Us all know Will Smith is a phenomenon much bigger than the that whole World War II thing and the 6 million Jews that where murdered slowly. I think Mr. Smith meant that Hitler didn't think he was doing anything wrong even though the rest of us know that Hitler was committing atrocities and completely insane--that's what makes a person insane: when they damage society (an understatement) and claim that they are "doing the right thing"!!!

83. Seriously, he might seem to be insensitive but I think he was just using his brain more than the people who are critisizing him. Will Smith is just trying to say that humans, even Hitler, however evil and vile they might be have a thought process. Hitler probablythought that it was the right thing to do when he did what he did. We weren't there to witness his thought process but he obviously had one. Now the issue with Will Smith's statement is that he didn't say that Hitler was still absolutely WRONG to feel the way he did. But, odds are, Will probabbly thought that it was a given. I hope he doesn't apologize publicly because he's entitled to express himself but he should explain what he was trying to say.

85. As a black, I'm embarrassed by what he said. He obviously does not think "everybody" is good because he took issue with Larry Elders, Wendy Williams, Eminem, and basically anybody else who criticized him enough to address it in one of his records. So this comment makes him look incredibly ignorant and hypocritical. Stop apologizing for him and admit we make mistakes too. It's not about being hyper-sensitive. It's about respecting the slaughter of ANYONE's ancestors, Black, White, Jewish, Russian, Middle Eastern, whatever. Genocide is wrong and should never be attempted to be justified.

86. Everyone needs to relax. He didn't say that Hitler was good. He said that Hitler believed that he was doing good. He's not condoning what Hitler did. He's saying what he thougth Hitler thought not what he thinks! People in this country are way too defensive and are way to quick to twist everyone's words into being messages of racism and hate.

88. WOW, you have to love how something so small and insignificant can be blown up. First off, if no one reported his comments, then no one would be upset about them, but bring them to light and all of a sudden everyone is a critic. I'm a jew, so what. More importantly I'm an american who believes people can say whatever the hell they want to say in this country whether you like it or not and should not have to apologize for it. If something offends you, get thicker skin. The fact is, what Will Smith said, while prob not the best example to use in the context is 100% correct. Will Smith wakes up everyday thinking that we are all inherrently good. great for him. Even Hitler? sure. Dictators and murders and terrorists don't see themselves as evil, they're warped and twisted logic and minds percieve themselves to be doing good or their god's will. And yes, even the founders of our country saw no wrong in slavery in the beginning. Obviously with Will Smith being in the position he is, it was not the right example, maybe use Saddam or Castro as your example, but what are you going to do. He's a hell of lot smarter then everyone who is commenting about this story and reading TMZ right now, including myself who's bored at work on xmas eve. Lastly, Will Smith is not a scientoligist, get your facts straight people, he defended it and his pal Cruise, and believe's scientology has a lot of the same values as christianity, but he remains a christian. Thats all folks, happy holidays, i'm going to go get some chinese food and see a movie.
