Will Smith -- Reporters Just Don't Understand

Will Smith is slamming a Scottish paper -- after one of its reporters twisted a quote he gave about Adolf Hitler in an interview -- and kicked up an unnecessary Internet s**tstorm.

Smith called the The Daily Record's quote "an awful and disgusting lie," and through his rep said he is "incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such a ludicrous misinterpretation. Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on his planet." Men in backtrack!

TMZ called the Daily Record, and we're trying to reach the reporter, Siobhan Synnot, whose byline is on the offending article, but haven't heard back.

16. Hitler had a dog. He wanted a cat. This maddening bad pet mistake rocked our WWII

17. Maybe you were misinterpreted, but you are setting yourself up to be a target. You have made a friendship with a man who is part of a cult that is not respected by the majority of the people. You have donated to this cult, although it is a small amount, you still gave them money. Your wife is showing signs of agreeing with Scientology and now with your attitude about "good within all people" you chose Hitler as an example who must have started of "good" and became evil. I agree with you that Hitler's probably did start off with the idea he was helping his people but he was a man who wasn't intially good, he was a man whose evil lyied dormant and was given an opportunity to reveal himself. He was an evil man who had to justify he murderous rage..nevertheless, of all the people you could have picked as an example, Hitler wasn't a good idea.

I think you and your wife need to get over this idea that your going to hook up with Tom Cruise and his mind controlled wife as Tom is also someone who feels he is doing something good but the evil he has is starting to manifest. He is using you to make himself appear legitimate and your falling for it...

18. His head has gotten so swollen he’s intoxicated with his celebrity status and thinks he can do or say anything he wants. He’s a bigot period! Let me have five minutes with his racist ass, he thinks he’s so bad, so tuff, let’s just see how tuff this xenophobic punk is!

20. Have you seen his wife lately? Ewww! She needs to gain about twenty pounds.

21. Here is the quoted text that caused the trouble:

"Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'let me do the most evil thing I can do today'," said Will. "I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good'. Stuff like that just needs reprogramming.

Now, anyone that actually reads the quote and has an IQ above 70 would know that in no way did he say Hitler was good... He simply implied that Hitler was doing something that Hitler thought was good. Quite frankly that is most likely spot on accurate. The problem is the world's PC police like the Jewish Defence League simply wants to erase the ability to mention the name of Hitler regardless of context. They behave as if the mere mention of the name Hitler by any celebrity must somehow equate the person to an anti-semite... well grow up people... it's getting to the point that the JDL is becoming as much a monster as the ones they claim to be fighting.

22. Will Smith's quote was misinterpreted. Still, he should've thought more about using that subject because Hitler is a touchy subject for a lot of folks.

That being said, this so-called controversy is really nothing. He wasn't praising Hitler.

23. Somehow I doubt Hitler got up every morning saying: "Mwahaha! What evil things do I have on my agenda today?". Will's point (if there was one) is that Hitler *thought* he was doing good, not that he *was* doing good. Does this imply that Will Smith thinks Hitler was a good guy? Absolutely not.

24. Not surprising that someone who proudly and publicly showed his ignorance and bigotry in the past would do so again. I am referring to his homophobic behavior back during the filming of Six Degrees of Separation. He could not bring himself to do the unspeakable and kiss another man, so he decried that just because the character was gay, well it wasn't crucial for him to show any expression of that. Then he exacerbated the reaction to that change from how it was realistically portrayed onstage by going on talk shows and making fun of the whole thing. His P R blitz to promote the film included his pandering to Oprah et al -giggling and preening for the audience about how he dont be kissin no mens. Ewwww. Gross,

Ignorant. Prejudiced. Furthering hatred. And now - more of the same.

27. This is so dumb...for all of you that actually look at that quote and think Will meant harm by it, you are all in need of a lobatomy, pronto.

...let's see, saying that Hitler probably woke up everyday thinking what he was doing was good in a twisted way obviously means that HITLER THOUGHT WHAT HE WAS DOING WAS GOOD.....I have not once thought that Will meant he agreed with that. The statement makes total sense. Anyone with a brain would probably think that. Charles Manson probably thought what he did was good. Come on people, think for once.

28. Jizy, chill out. I hardly think his comments qualify him as racist. Thoughtless? Perhaps but not racist.

Got a point about his wife though. She's always been small but lately she almost looks skeleton like! Don't believe me? Look at her from TV's "A Different World" and from films like A Low Down Dirty Shame and Jason's Lyric and look at her now. Back then, she was small, petite but healthy looking. Now, she's small, petite and looks like he she needs a trip to McDonald's fast!

It pains me to say that because I used to find Jada Pinkett-Smith very sexy. Now, she's just dissapearing almost.

29. Of course this story is taken completely out of context because he had the #1 movie -- bringing in almost $100 million -- with no co-star. So it's time to bring the Black man down -- and throw Barack Obama into the mix for no good reason. Ridiculous!

30. Some people on here need to take a reading comprehension class. He never said Hitler was a good person. Seriously, you folks will believe anything in a headline without reading something yourself.
