Dog Dead Afternoon Suit for Pet Shop to the Stars

Pets of Bel Air -- the trendy pet shop that was exposed for having purchased their dogs from puppy mills -- has been hit with a class action suit by one dissatisfied customer. Their celeb clients include Paris Hilton, Denise Richards, Demi Moore, Britney Spears and Robin Williams.
Read the lawsuit
In a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, Wayne Kreger alleges he purchased a Chihuahua puppy from the store in August 2007. He claims he was told that dog was a "purebred American Kennel Club Chihuahua" and would be given papers proving it. He claims he never got the papers.

The lawsuit goes on to say that the Kreger was told by an employee that the dog might "become dehydrated and show a lack of interest in food." Sure enough, within two days, that happened and the dog was diagnosed with Parvo virus and died 10 days later.

Kreger is suing the store for false advertising and fraud and is asking for unspecified damages.

A rep for the store tells TMZ they have no indication on record that there was anything wrong with the dog, nor were they ever notified that anything was wrong. If they had been notified, they would have done all they could to fix it.

46. 18. This is BS. I bought my dog--a very expensive dog--from Pets of Bel Air and couldn't be happier. The dog is pure breed with papers and couldn't be a better dog.

I would definitely buy again. It's a wonderful place.

I'm surprised that TMZ is going after Pets of Bel Air like this. Sometimes TMZ goes too far.

You may have a very expensive pedigree dog and you may have AKC papers for that dog. I would be willing to wager my next paycheck, though, that your dog came from a puppy mill. Reputable breeders do not sell to pet stores.

48. AKC certified? I have paid $1,500 for dogs that were represented to come from Westminster "Best In Show" that had so many genetic defects crop up after their second birthday they had to be put to sleep by the time they were five years old as they were in such pain from hip dysplasia, joint pain, ulcerated gastro intestinal tract and on it goes. The best dogs are muts from the animal shelter that are at least two years old. If the dog warns to you immediately, then you usually have a winner.

50. Maybe people will get wise to puppy mills and how much misery they cause the dogs in those filthy cages who are forced to be breeding machines with no health care. Many are blind, deaf, have injuries uncared for it is so sick to see.

4-5 million animals are euthanized every year in this county and about 2 million are put out by these mills and backyard breeders. Why aren't people going to local rescues where there are an abundance of animals needing adoption of all ages.

Please, think adoption at your local rescue or shelter 1st.

51. People don't realize that many puppy mill dogs suffer horribly, they suffer from skin conditions, rotting teeth, many lose eyesight and hearing from infections never cared for. You see, these dogs live in their own feces and no one cleans up so they get sick. They are exposed to the elements without shelter, many suffer from mange (a skin condition) and many are underfed. Please stop buying these puppy mill dogs and help close them down.

52. Parvo is very, very contagious. To all who own pet stores, puppy mills, grooming services, etc, please have your facilities checked by your local Pet Care Provider and please sterilize everything they tell you, exactly the way they tell you to sterilize it. An ounce of precaution is worth a pound of cure. Also, if their are any veteranary chemists out there reading this, please invent birth control for animals. This idea put into action would make you a trillionaire. Take my idea and run with it,it would save lots of money and grief.
