Grandpa Hilton -- Not As Nice As You Think

According to a new book released yesterday, Paris' grandfather, Barron Hilton, wrested away millions of dollars that his dead father intended to leave to the poor -- the exact opposite of his recent charitable announcement. Feeling guilty, maybe?
Read an excerpt from the book
Barron made headlines this week when he said that he was bequeathing 97% of his fortune to charity, the majority of which would go to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, named for his father. When Conrad passed, he too planned to leave the bulk of his fortune to the foundation, but Barron had slightly different plans.

The new book, "Free Lunch" by David Cay Johnston, details how Barron fought for years to gain control over his father's assets, eventually receiving "more than half of the value of the stock in his father's estate, about 250 times the amount specified as a gift in his father's will."

Johnston says that at the time, Barron argued that he was trying to retain control of the Hilton hotel chain for the family. Earlier this year, Hilton Hotels was sold to the Blackstone Group for $26 billion. Extended family, perhaps?

4. Just sad; pitiful. Guess Paris is going to have to work now, and Dad will get his way, unless she's smart enough to go to court (she won't win anyway).<

6. Geez, what a dilema. No big money from Grandpa. boohoo........
He should have designated all the money to rebuilding homes that were devestated by Katrina. You know Barron.... homes, that's where people sleep......just like in hotels. Idiots. It's damn lucky they were all born into the billions, cuz between all of them, there is not a brain the size of a pea anywhere. He is as blonde as his granddaughter, Paris.

7. ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT THIS MONEY IS ACTUALLY GOING TO END UP IN THE HANDS OF THE POOR IS VERY NAIVE. MONEY BEGETS MONEY, IF THEY HAVE TO PRETEND TO GIVE IT ALL AWAY IN ORDER TO KEEP IT, THEY WILL DO SO AT A MOMENTS NOTICE.

8. Anyone notice the name of the "charity" the money is going to? Doesn't look like it really leaves Hilton possession to me.

9. Nobody in this country makes that kind of money without lots of help from working people, just like you and me. That's why it should all be given back to the govt. when they die. End of story. And if this happened we wouldn't have a mess like Paris and the Davis brothers. They would have to work for a living too.

13. What the Hell is the Conrad N. Hilton foundation, anyway? doesn't sound like a "CHARITY" to me - just renaming the dough. Gee - maybe Paris will have to get a real job - not just getting paid to party? That will be the day!. There are still millons left over for "family", and that is sad. Spoiled, rotten family!!
