Dr. Phil to "ET" -- The Family Speared Me

Dr. Phil responded to the TMZ stories reporting that psychiatric professionals questioned Cedars permitting the TV doc into Britney Spears' hospital room without her prior knowledge or consent.

Here's what he said about his visit on Saturday morning on today's "Early Show": "I want to set the record straight. I went to see Britney at the request of her family. I talked to Lynne, Jamie, and Brian, because they were frustrated that she wasn't going to be held for a longer time."

Asked how he had come to be involved in the saga, Dr. Phil said, "Thursday night, the phone rang, it was Lynne, clearly she was very upset. Any parent would be. I was first contacted by her family a year ago, and had maintained a running dialogue for the last year or so."

31. dr phil he knows better...britney is of age.....unless she wanted to see dr phil...he should have never gone...its the law....i believe its our rights.....its is not up to her parnets.....her choice......any dr knows that.....i guess dr phil needs to look at his part and not put a spin on it.....he blamming the spears family....he knows better....just like the hospital had to let britney go they could not hold her just because....there are guide lines they must follow......

34. I think one word describes Dr. Phil to a tee...vulture. When someone is lying injured, vultures start circling overhead to pick their bones clean and that's what he did. The man has always disgusted and he disgusts me now even moreso. Thanks Oprah for siccing this creep on society and promoting him as some kind of wonderful guy.

As for Lynne Spears, is this woman the worst mother around or what? Her daughter's in the hospital, but does she rush to her side? No. She's too busy laying flowers on her mother's grave who died a year ago then trying to help her daughter who is still alive. Then she adds insult to injury and sics that vulture on her mentally ill and vulnerable daughter. She also apparently let her underage daughter have sex in her house which ended up in said daughter getting pregnant. What a prize this woman is.

I can even manage what Dr. Swill said, "Britney, I can help you. I can make all your problems go away. If you come on my show, I can cure you in an hour."

39. a BS excuse from a mediaH0 quack! I smell a lawsuit bigtime! Britney is an adult which means parents cannot do anything concerning medical treatment PERIOD unless they have power of attorney etc stating different. Some Federal laws were broken here and it IS NOT REMOTELY FUNNY! I hope Britney sue's the caca out of some people over this one! To each and every one of you people who are so PIOUS and CONDESCENDING and show no empathy whatsoever, I hope the day comes you REAP what you have SOWN. Then WHY THE HELL did issue a Press Release?? Liar and a hypocrit. Look at all the publicity he's gotten since Saturday. There are no words for how much I loathe this man. Just trying to peddle his lousy show at the expense of his reputation.

Great job there Phil. What you won't do for ratings. You're just as much of a fame whore at Britney, but I would think at least YOU knew better.

42. It doesn't matter if her family wanted him there or not. She's a grown woman and clearly didn't want this man around. Yes, she needs psychiatric help, preferably from a professional who is PROFESSIONAL and keeps you know....that whole PATIENT/DOCTOR confidentiality thing and not plan a tell all on air with your family for ratings. Dr Phil is an absolute joke. I have no idea why Oprah thought so highly of him. Also, a fat man telling me how to lose weight is laughable.
I hope Britney gets help. I've enjoyed watching her chaotic fall from grace but that was when I just thought she was self centered. Now that it's pretty much fact that she's got problems deeper than just looking out for #1 I don't think the situation is very funny anymore. Dr Phil, stay the eff away. You'll just screw the poor girl up even more.

44. If Britney does not want this egg head in her life then YTF dont he just hit the road. Regardess of what her family think it's not as if they have a history of acting in her best interest. If Britney is ever going to agree to any form of help it must be with some one she trusts. His unwelcome intervntion addmitidly now for over a year is surly just giving Britney a desire to stay well clear of any shink if she feels they may all be intrusive like him. Britneys family need to butt out now it looks like she dont want them around eather. All these people interfearing people she has lost trust in must surly be very antagonistic for her. At this stage i cant see her admitting to needing help until these people back off and allow her to focus on herself rather than them. Give her space to reflect and im sure she will turn this around im sure in my heart she will overcome this.

45. Pretty easy to sit back and slam the guy before he is even given a chance to prove whether or not he has good intentions. The only reason S--tney refused his help has nothing to do with him. She would refuse ANYONES help, because she thinks she doesn't have a problem. Perhaps when you idiots quit enabling her and kissing her ass, you will come up for air long enough to open your stupid eyes. Holy crap. I have never seen a bigger group of morons in my life. If it turns out that he is not in it just to truly help her, then slam the guy, but for now, put the blame where it belongs, with S--tney.
