Dr. Phil responded to the TMZ stories reporting that psychiatric professionals questioned Cedars permitting the TV doc into Britney Spears' hospital room without her prior knowledge or consent.

Here's what he said about his visit on Saturday morning on today's "Early Show": "I want to set the record straight. I went to see Britney at the request of her family. I talked to Lynne, Jamie, and Brian, because they were frustrated that she wasn't going to be held for a longer time."

Asked how he had come to be involved in the saga, Dr. Phil said, "Thursday night, the phone rang, it was Lynne, clearly she was very upset. Any parent would be. I was first contacted by her family a year ago, and had maintained a running dialogue for the last year or so."

61. I never thought i'de say this. But "Leave Britney Alone ! " .. or at least stop paying so much attention to her. G-zus already! you might as well rename this site " www.TM-britneyspears-Z.COM "

The 27 posts about her could have been summed up in one " Britney's a wack job. But we already knew that didnt we? "

The end.

62. I am a clinical therapist. This action of Dr. Phil was totally unethical. Despite the family request, she herself needed to be asked if she wanted to speak with him. This young woman is in such a disastrous frame of mind and Dr. Phil (who's PhD is in Education, not psychology) should have his license revoked. He is a snake oil salesman. What he does on his show is abusive, not therapeutic. He may be entertaining to some in some situations e.g. teenage daughters who want to dress like prostitutes, but in the case of a person who is obviously exhibiting serious mental health issues, this is outrageous, unethical......If he isn't sued by Brittany Spears and doesn't have his license revoked I would like to know why. Hospital people need to answer for this as well. Help, don't harm........what you learn when you study psychology.

63. Spurs...What a nice person you are, calling people names like that. Show us your immense intelligence some more.

64. Think about the IQ of this family. When they perceive that their daughter may have a mental problem, do they call the doctors who are treating her at Cedars? NO--they call a TV talk show host who has a degree but hasn't practiced in almost 20 years? WHO DOES THAT? When their 15 year old daughter gets knocked up, do they respect her privacy and reputation by dealing with it quietly? NO they sell the story for a million dollars to a sleazy tabloid.

No wonder these kids are crazy.

65. I know most of the people commenting are teenagers so I take the comments with a grain of salt, but what about TMZ? Do the adults who post these slanderous things about Dr. Phil really think he is out to help himself and not Brittney? You've got thousands of comments from people saying the girl needs help. Why shouldn't Dr. Phil feel the same thing? Unlike these people leaving comments, he is actually qualified to help her and Britney's family have asked him to help.

66. He's trying to do Damage Control. Even if her family contacted him, Dr. Phil should not have interviewed with TV entertainment shows stating HIS opinion. He is unprofessional!!! He is seeking attention and fame using the hardship of Britney's family and her tragic illness. Cedar should not have allowed him there as BRITNEY AN ADULT did not hire him or ask for his visit. Cedar failed her by releasing her early and letting him in there. Cedar is sloppy. First we hear of the overdose of Dennis Quaid's twins and now this. What is being done there to patients who are not famous and the public doesn't hear about? I HOPE BRITNEY GETS A RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST BIG MOUTH PHONY PHIL.

67. Dr. Phil, Britney is over 21 and you know that you can't violate her rights as an adult just because her parents wanted you there. You were way out of line!

68. This man is as nuts as she is to talk issues of confidentiality. California, you really need to check your water supply. And TMZ we know you had a long night camped out in BH but maybe someone could get up this morning & check out #10...unless of course that was your handiwork?

69. #65 Dr. Phil (who's PhD is in Education, not psychology) ALSO, again Britney Spears is an adult and nobody ABSOLUTELY nobody has any right to do ANYTHING concerning her medical issues EXCEPT a court of LAW! Invading her privacy at a hospital disregarded the privacy laws, let alone her parents and others publicizing her life and her sister's is MORALLY wrong. I don't care what her parent's did or did not want, by law it is not up to them. EOD.

70. Just shut up, Quack! You're shameless and unethical!

71. With all the good, reputable doctors at the hospital, why on earth did the family think Dr. Phil would be able to help Brit? For the love o' Pete.

72. So what if her family called you, Dr. Phil. Do you really think doing an on TV live intervention is what this girl needs? If you were an OBGyn and Momma Lynn called you, would you then decide to deliver Jamie Lynns baby live on Television too?

Britney is so obviously in crisis. Plastering her all over your show just so you can get ratings is ridiculous. Any legitimate therapist that was actually trying to HELP someone, would not put them on live TV and humiliate them like that.

The didn't have to call the doctors at Hollywierd General,,,,I mean Cedars. The father was there talking to them and those doctors determined that Brittney should be release early which her family did not agree with.

74. Actually, Dr. Phil is not allowed to get involved on any observation or treatment level. You are not allowed to counsel a person whom you have any relation to. Obviously his wife has had a connection with the Spears family for sometime, so a psychological evaluation should be done by the hospital therapist and not a family friend. It is just common law within psychology and he can go and be a friend but cannot have any views on what is going on with her mental health. To cover himself he would be better served not to discuss her "problems" with the media. He should stay tight lipped about the situation.

75. Brit would have taken a test called a MMPI....the family was worried she would be held longer because the test would have been right about her. Then the hospital could have held her longer or transfred her to a different place....the only reason she got out was because she got a doctor and told them that she would follow an out treatment plan so she could leave. But she'll never follow it and she'll back out on the street's....and one day she'll be on the street's for good! But the courts will be putting her to more test and she'll be tested for a year before she can even get close to her kids.....and her days of doing what she wants is now over. If she wants everything to go away she would have to drop her custody battle....but she won't...that's bad press for her.....in the end she will lose! And most of all it will be proven that she is sick and needs help....and being a diva who stomps her feet and has gotton her way will not work any more.....she's one sick young lady and needs the help.
