Dr. Phil to "ET" -- The Family Speared Me

Dr. Phil responded to the TMZ stories reporting that psychiatric professionals questioned Cedars permitting the TV doc into Britney Spears' hospital room without her prior knowledge or consent.

Here's what he said about his visit on Saturday morning on today's "Early Show": "I want to set the record straight. I went to see Britney at the request of her family. I talked to Lynne, Jamie, and Brian, because they were frustrated that she wasn't going to be held for a longer time."

Asked how he had come to be involved in the saga, Dr. Phil said, "Thursday night, the phone rang, it was Lynne, clearly she was very upset. Any parent would be. I was first contacted by her family a year ago, and had maintained a running dialogue for the last year or so."

76. "Dr. Phil" is so predicatable, naturally he would come out with a statement saying the Spears family contacted him. Even IF they did, he should have just stayed away instead of making more of a mockery out of Brit's latest drama, and most likely making money off Brit as well.
The guy is a psychology-centric television personality ....hahahhaa, what a laugh, when will we see the pictures his crew took?

77. To Marc, the genius "doctor: first of all "dependent" is spelled incorrectly. You must have missed that class in your fake medial school. Secondly, anyone who's really in the medical profession knows that psychologists are licensed and accountable to the American Psychologists' Association, which can censor psychologists for unethical practices & even take away their licenses.

78. From the article above: "...psychiatric professionals questioned Cedars permitting the TV doc into Britney Spears' hospital room without her prior knowledge or consent."

PLEASE continue to question this situation. Britney Spear's is an ADULT. Cedars should have NEVER permitted McQuack into the hospital, and especially not into a private patient's room without that patient's knowledge or consent. He is grossly unethical and unprofessional in discussing details of a private meeting with a Cedars in-house patient (or ANY patient, for that matter) with the media. These kinds of practices should be dealt with immediately and severely.

79. I didn't know Dr. Phil's degree was in education, not psychology. Maybe doctor-patien confidentiality laws don't apply to him, since he isn't a medical professional.

80. Are we to assume we are on REAL TIME or Dr Phil's TIME when he states contact from her family was a year ago? Perhaps was more like 4 days agao.. I mean really, if 15 minutes = 1 hours. Dr. Phil..stick to what you know, which is how to show your lack of compassion, over bearing attitude, and GOD like disposition, atleast in his own eyes! Dr.Phil=L.O.S.E.R

81. Wow, I didn't know it was ethical for Dr. Phil to go and see Britney given that Phil's wife is friends with Britney's mom. Sounds like a conflict of interest to me. .He should have pointed them in another direction.

I wonder if their is a doctor/patient privilege here. In other words, is what he and Britney talked about something that Phil can't talk about with anyone else.

What are Dr. Phil's credentials? Does he have a license to practice in Calif? Does he need one?

83. What gets me is that well after Twit told him to take a flying leap, he continued to follow her even outside the hospital! I hear it was raining in Cali that day. Phil is so lucky she didn't go Umbrella Ninja on his ass! I bet he's spending a lot of time mopping that sweat off his bald dome as he does damage control now!

84. His website states that he has an MA and PhD in clinical psychology.

85. It's not all about youuuuuuuuuuu Dr. Phil.

86. I'm not defending Dr. Phil because I think what he did was unethical. However, the misinformation on here is absurd. He has a B.A. in Psychology from Midwestern State University. He has a M.S. in Psychology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology, both from the University of North Texas, a highly respected University.

All of you stating he doesn't have a "real" degree or an honorary degree or a degree in Education, are flat wrong. He was in private clinical practice for several years before he WAS reprimanded by the Texas Board because he hired a patient to work for him while she was still under treatment. (That's not allowed). He chose not to take the required ethics classes and started his Consulting firm where he consulted with attorneys on jury selection. As far as I know, he is not licensed to practice in any state at this time.

87. Dr. Phil may have had the best of intentions and it certainly appears that the Spears family has been relying on him for advice. However, any professional knows that the patient is the one who must accept mhelp. not that Dr. Phil is wrong in responding to the family's cry for help, just that he stepped over the line in this case.

I have a more positive reaction to Dr. phil now knowing that the Spears family has been contacting him for a year to aid in helping their daughter.

88. IF he really wanted to help, it would have been done without cameras. He never would have talked to the press. Would anyone really expose their deepest, darkest feelings/moments on TV? That's what it's going to take, intensive mental health treatment. This is not her rock bottom. I fear her bottom will be very bad.

89. Everyone keeps screaming - "why don't her parents do something"!! Then when they do (ask Dr Phil to intervene) you jump all over them. ANY HELP IS HELP!! Bunch of back seat drivers without licenses!!!

90. Wow... how many of us would like our doctor to get on national television and blab about how sick or well we are? Frankly I see this as a great op for Spears to sue the bald loony sideways.
