Brit's Parents Tried to Commit Her

TMZ has learned Britney's parents -- especially her dad -- have been earnestly trying for months to get her committed into a mental hospital for a bipolar disorder.

We know Jamie Spears in particular has felt since last summer that Brit was suffering from a mental disease and not substance abuse. Jamie was looking for a way to push his daughter into a facility but she refused. Indeed, we're told she refused and continues to refuse to undergo a battery of tests that would officially diagnose the bipolar disorder.

We're told both Jamie and Lynne Spears believe Sam Lutfi, the guy who was inseparable from Brit until last week, was a prime reason she was refusing treatment. They are so mad at Lutfi they threw him out of Cedars last week.

16. Ok...what test is there for Bipolar? It's not daignosed with a test, it is diagnosed by an analysis of behavior and review of family history.

17. TMI, TMZ.

18. Yeah, I think they actually could have her committed but it's not that easy to do. Granted, she's given everyone pleanty of reason and evidence to do it. I think they're scared of her or of her "adoring" public.

19. There is no "battery of tests" for bipolar disorder. Gawd, you are all so irresponsible. There are signs that fit the condition and only a qualified psychiatrist can do that. There isn't a blood test you can take. Yet more irresponsible journalism. Naturally, most of the time, my posts are removed. Wonder why? The truth hurts.

20. There have been some mental health experts on different programs saying that Britney CAN be committed against her will. If this is true and her parents are serious, what's the hold-up?

21. Good for them. Stop bashing this family--they really are trying to take care of Britney. Well, except for the Dr. Phi thing, but what if it had actually worked? Then everyone would be hailing him as a hero...

23. The only was britney can be hald against her will is if its court ordered and she either gets 5150'd again or a 5350 and the only way that will happen is if she poses some kind of danger to herself or others. So she basically has to do something bad before that happens.

24. They can "try" all they want. Until Britney proves herself to be a threat to herself or others, or allows herself to be checked in, they can't do anything. Even Lynn admits this is her fault. Britney never had a mother, so Britney doesn't know how to be a mother. If Britney has bipolar disorder, she will eventually crash and burn. When and if a bipolar depression kicks in, and Britney does something really stupid, like attempt suicide, then they can step in and try to get a court order to take over her guardianship.

"Britney Spears' mother has publicly blamed herself for the pop superstar's woes--because she couldn't be with her daughter as she grew up on tour.
Lynne Spears, 52, insists her daughter's problems have been building up for years, and now the singer's a mess as she battles for custody of her kids.
A worried Lynne fell out with the singer earlier this year after she was part of an intervention party that reportedly forced Britney into rehab, but she insists her daughter has been showing signs of losing it for years.
In an exclusive interview with Life & Style magazine, Lynne claims her troubled daughter would be in a much better place if she had joined her on the road after her pop career took off.
She says, "I wish I'd been there more while she was touring, but I couldn't be. I had the other kids to look after."

This next link explains what has to happen before Britney can be forcibly admitted...

25. I can't believe that California does not have some provision for a parent or family member to have a person committed that has on so many occasions demonstrated what is clearly psychotic behavior. And think about it - if you or I had failed to show up for court dates, or held our child hostage, our asses would be locked up. I'm really starting to think this whole thing is one big publicity stunt that everyone, including the Commissioner and especially Lynne are in on...

27. There are ways to commit someone who doesn't want to go. They need to do something before she hurts herself, someone else or (God forbid) her own kids. Untreated bi-polar disorder is extremely dangerous when you are not diagnosed and you are not getting the medicine you need. She will end up hurting someone for sure.

28. No! Do not commit her. She makes all of us feel better about ourselves! When she dies, it will be so self-confirming!

29. Maybe the Spears family should reach out to someone like Carrie Fisher who has first hand knowledge of Bipolar disorder and celebrity. Just a thought.

30. First of all, I want to say that the"Spears" family should be ashame of themselves. Britney needed parents not friends growing up. Britney's mother should have been a parent by telling her no (and meaning it) and giving her the foundation to be a solid person. When a child is born in this world, it is your obligated duty to raise that child into a productive human being. Saying that, as an entertainer, she reached that plateau but at what cost. I look at Britney's mom that is always looking well together and always profiting off her daughter but at what cost. I mean if Britney was a trouble child by herself, one wold say that she was just acting out but when you let your 16yrs old daughter become pregnant I say WHAT THE HELL. Well, I pray for that family because instead of raising her daughters she was being a friend and instead of Britney and Jamie Lynn having a childhood, they were supporting the family.
