Brit's Parents Tried to Commit Her

TMZ has learned Britney's parents -- especially her dad -- have been earnestly trying for months to get her committed into a mental hospital for a bipolar disorder.

We know Jamie Spears in particular has felt since last summer that Brit was suffering from a mental disease and not substance abuse. Jamie was looking for a way to push his daughter into a facility but she refused. Indeed, we're told she refused and continues to refuse to undergo a battery of tests that would officially diagnose the bipolar disorder.

We're told both Jamie and Lynne Spears believe Sam Lutfi, the guy who was inseparable from Brit until last week, was a prime reason she was refusing treatment. They are so mad at Lutfi they threw him out of Cedars last week.

46. For the children's sake and for the sake of anyone on the road when Britney is at the wheel, I would sincerely hope the court sees fit to demand some mental health testing be done in the custody decision - some kind of professional evaluation is needed and FAST. Cedars just blew every bit of credibility they had this year between Dennis Quaid's twin overdosing and now allowing Dr. Phil in their private facility to corner Britney for his show's benefit. I used to work at a treatment facility and to let anyone past the front door who is not part of the treatment plan who's intention is to confront a patient is unforgivable. However, now that the parents are sounding sane enough to take a stand on behalf of Britney's mental health, how come they are not considering making that kind of statement to the court?! Surely the court would be interested to note that an "attempt to commit" has been made by the parents. Or is this all just CYA after the fact by mummy and dada?

48. How is it the Pap boyfriends fault? They said they have been trying to commit her for months and blame the photog for her not going. She hasn't been seeing him for months. Who do they blame for the first few months?

49. I have never thought Spears was anything more than Hollywood-made and talentless. However, I have began to feel very sorry for this woman and *something* is quite wrong with her. The media pigs need to back off her and someone, anyone at this point, needs to convince those gold-digging parents of hers that she desperately needs help. No one deserves to be allowed to publically implode. She deserves better than this, for God’s sake, her children are being hurt very much as well….she is still their mother. TMZ, do something constructive to HELP this woman, stop just using her private pain to get pictures. Would you do it if she had cancer? Well, she has a medical condition and the behavior of the media is deplorable!

50. '24. i don't know much about bi polar, but if brit is bipolar...why wasn't she behaving like this when she was with justin...makes me think there's more to this (not drugs).....hhhmmmmm

---------

What makes you so sure she wasn't having like that when she was with Justin? A crystal ball? Your say-so? Tea leaves?

Were you living there with the both of them when they were together that you would say that? No? then STFU with your stupid suspicions.

52. i think she definitely has some sort of mental disorder, such as bi-polar. she's also probably over-taking some form of adderall or other ADD medication. anyone who has a prescription of adderall, it clearly states that excessive caffeine will enhance the side of effects of the amphetamine. so, you have a mental disorder mixed with excessive use of an amphetamine, like adderall, and caffeine. not a good mixture.

53. To #7 (Spurs): Britney clearly has a MENTAL PROBLEM, she doesn't need an attitude adjustment. Doing weird things, crying in one minute and laughing the next has nothing to do with attitude. That is mental illness.

54. #41 Do you realize how hard it is to get someone committed? It's too hard. Thats why there are tons of mentally ill people wandering the streets. You have to basically tell someone you are planning on killing yourself or someone else, or attempt it. Brit's behavior is crazy but not to the extent she would be institutionalized without her consent. Now if she had pulled a gun on Kevin or threatened herself they could.

56. Dah, Her folks could have done a CONNIE FRANCIS on her ass. Okay so y'all don't remember who she was except maybe singing "Where the Boys Are" but when Connie went off the deep end she had her Baker Acted. Of course Connie hated her mom for years for doing it but at least she is alive to tell everyone she cussed her mom out for doing it.

57. Britney isn't like "us" normal people. Just my observation. She has been catered to her entire life, she has the mentality that she is "above" anyone else. She is spoiled, she's a brat, and she answers to no one her entire life. She's the money train for a lot of people, and she's narcissistic on top of it all. Throw on top of all of that, a quick marriage and divorce, giving birth to two children in a short time span, and a career stalled and you have a disaster on your hands.

Problem is she probably has a mental disorder (I don't think it's drugs....I have worked as a counselor for years and have learned to tell the difference.....many people with mental disorders do eventually TURN to drugs though).

Maybe she didn't always have this disorder and maybe she did have a 'borderline' disorder. When she had her two children it changed the makeup of her body chemistry and this disorder went from 'borderline' to 'full blown'. The body is a very intricate thing and it's common for childbirth to bring out issues such as this.

Factor on TOP of that, her narcissitc personality, her spoiled brat ways and this is a recipe for disaster. I did defend her in the beginning that taking her children away from her would be very detrimental to her health. At this point in time, that is the only thing that can be done for their welfare.

She's has a narcissistic personality, and she is very spoiled....why on earth would she ever believe she has a mental disorder?

58. Having a mentally ill brother we've been there too as far as facing the frustration of getting help for someone who isn't capable of making those decisisons for themselves and yet the system is so messed up it ties your hands to do anything for your loved one. What the family must do is go to court and have a judge order her committed. It's such a shame Cedars released her. It was THE opportunity for the family to get help for her. Medication can stabilize her. But she will need to stay on medication for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, she doesn't think anything is wrong with her. That is part of the disease of bipolar disease/schizophrenia. If she continues down the disintegrating spiral she is in of mental illness she will probably die. Many of the homeless on the streets are the menatlly ill who are in such a confused state they have no idea what to do. It was Ronald Reagan's adminintration who threw the mentally ill out of the hospital's and thus began the homeless phenomena.

59. There's really nothing Britney's parents can do unless they witness her manic or suicidal behavior first-hand. Yes, Britney is troubled but she's also an adult and must be resposible for her own well-being.

60. I keep reading that her family is saying Britney's problem is "mental illness-not substance abuse" but, the judge declared that she was a "habitual, frequent and continuous drug user" which was why she lost custody in the first place. Sadly, I think it must be both.
