Brit's Parents Tried to Commit Her

TMZ has learned Britney's parents -- especially her dad -- have been earnestly trying for months to get her committed into a mental hospital for a bipolar disorder.

We know Jamie Spears in particular has felt since last summer that Brit was suffering from a mental disease and not substance abuse. Jamie was looking for a way to push his daughter into a facility but she refused. Indeed, we're told she refused and continues to refuse to undergo a battery of tests that would officially diagnose the bipolar disorder.

We're told both Jamie and Lynne Spears believe Sam Lutfi, the guy who was inseparable from Brit until last week, was a prime reason she was refusing treatment. They are so mad at Lutfi they threw him out of Cedars last week.

76. Did anyone think about contacting Justin Timberlake to help her? He was her trusted friend for many years. Even tho they are not "together" he would be the one to get her put of this, because she knows he wants nothing monetary in return. One of you tabloids should get to Justin. H may refuse at first to get involved, but he can do this if he ever really loved her.

77. Too bad they could not get her committed that is the only thing that could help her. She does not seem to be doing anything to improve her situation herself

78. I thought that her mother was not at the hosiptal... So how did THEY throw Lutfi out... Wasn't it reported that only Jamie was at the hosiptal? (as far as the parents) Wasn't Lynne with Jamie-Lynne?

79. My 25 yr old daughter is bi-polar. Getting her help or treatment or hospitalized STOPPED on her 18th birthday. Phyc doctors and hospitals I had dealt with for years, (since she was 9 yrs old), could no longer talk to me. Hospitals would not take her in, even when she continually tried to kill herself, if she said she was fine! Medication, forget it, it takes 3 months to get a good level in the bloodstream, and she won't take it that long. 90% of our homeless people are bi-polar because they cannot and will not function in normal society. As for getting her committed, thats a joke, I went thru the whole process, as demeaning as the courts tried to make me look, after two 2 DAYS in the hospital let her go saying she was stabilized! She jumped off a bridge later that day! Bi-polar is a genetic disease, her father has it, not told to me till after I gave birth!

80. Maybe the courts need to intervene and make it mandatory for her to undergo these tests in order to even get visitations of the babies. I honestly think this last little "break down" was because Jamie Lynn was getting attention and poor "attention whore" Britney couldn't handle it. While I do believe she has mental issues, people are using them as excuses for her behavior. Bipolar isn't an excuse for this crap. Britney needs to grow up, clean herself up and be a good mommy to those babies.

81. Bring it to an end. Enough with this. She has ALWAYS had the attitude the world revolves around her. The world is sick of seeing her. Britany - go away, go away. I don't feel sorry for her. Enough of the childish spoiled brat behavior. End it already.

82. To Poster #64 – you are right on. Bipolar Disorder, if that is indeed what she turns out to have, is insidious in nature and among the highest problematic mental diseases because there is a high rate of sufferers “thinking” they are OK after their meds straighten them out – going off meds – relapsing and going back into the hospital. Their own brain works against them with this disease of chemical imbalances and drug abuse is extremely common in this disorder. Anyone turning up their nose at the true suffering of mental disorders should volunteer to spend time helping in a mental hospital. They would see first hand just how bad it is when one’s own brain fails to work properly even when the body appears perfectly normal. The hatred of the mentally ill is based in the fear of mental illness.

83. Justin uses drugs too. He admits to smoking pot in rolling stone and apparently snorts coke before going on stage.
Britney is a moron, but I feel for her, how can she trust anyone? Everyone betrays her and uses her.
too bad Justin does not try to reach out to her...
How about Oprah?

84. Maybe someone should commit the parents. These two win the worst parents EVER right behind Dina Lohan and the Hiltons.
That is company I would NEVER want to keep. What a bunch of losers.Too bad they just about anyone have children.

I'd have a brake down too if this who rasied me. Everytime they open theirs mouths I just cringe.

Oh well, I guess you can take the family out the trailer park, but,............the trailer has wheels and it looks like it followed them to California!

85. Britney needs to be "committed" by a judge to a mental hospital where she can stay until she is well enough to function - it could take months of therapy and finding the right combination of medication. Yes, bi-polar disorder can be treated at home IF the patient admits they have a mental problem and submit to treatment and willingly check themselves into a hospital for treatment. Most patients aren't thinking rationally, and may in fact, be in a full psychotic episode, manic, not sleeping, talking out of their heads, hearing voices, paranoid, etc., especially when they are first diagnosed and treatment is attempted. Most families end up going before a judge and having their loved one declared mentally incompetent to get them committed for the treatment they need. If you call an ambulance and have your loved one put in a mental hospital against their will (last THursday night), by law, they can only hold the person in the hospital for 72 hours - not enough time to be properly diagnosed and treated. Then they are discharged, right back on the street again, no better and in denial still that they have a problem. It is a drastic step, but sometimes it is the only way to get the patient on the road to recovery. I wish all the best for Brit and her family in their time of pain, and I hope they are able to help her. Mental illness still has such a social stigma - we would rather believe someone has a drug problem or is just simply stupid than a mental illness, something that is no more their fault than diabetes. Jamie Spears recognizes her behavior because his mother committed suicide when he was a child. No, they have not been perfect parents and they have contributed to her problems and lived off her money, but I do believe they love her and want what is best for their daughter. I am a nurse and have gone thru a similar ordeal with a sibling - it was the most horrific thing I've ever been through. The Spears family needs our prayers.

86. Our world is filled with people who have mental health issues. For those who have no idea or have not lived with a family member with this disease it is a physical disorder...a chemical imbalance in the brain like diabetes is a chemical imbalance in the pancreas. When you say we should just kill her that is what Hitler did to the mentally ill and disabled in Nazi Germany. Until you've lived with this you have no idea how heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love spiral into a abyss of hopelessness. The next time you see someone homeless on the street understand they are too are someone's child, brother, sister, mother, father.

87. Debbie, you are so right. I deal with the homeless mentally ill people every day . They live right by the front door of where I work. Brit is not as bad as these people and she needs help. She won't go into a long term stay because of her parents. I think she is afraid that they will glom onto her money. Her mother is kfeds "friend". She confides in him. Hell maybe they are drugging her? I do not trust her Mother or her ex. He cheated on her, spent her money like water, l;eft her alone while he partied with his ex and other women and didn't care what she said. She loves hom still and all the betrayal she has gone thru has taken her down. I hope she gets help but not by those people. They will just take her money and run.

88. I wonder how the stupid judge is feeling now....he took her kids away based on LIES! More and more it is becoming evident she is NOT an alcoholic and doesn't have a drug addiction....if anything she has some kind of mental illness she did not directly cause that could be controlled if she gets help. She drinks no differently than probably 50% of the people in our country. I have lots of friends who drink every weekend and sometimes even end up totally smashed! Not a crime! When you think about all the extra damage this judge did to her and her kids all because he too bought into the media and labelled her something she was not without any real evidence! Shame he didn't do his job right and NEVER really had the best interest of those boys. I'd say if anything happens to Brit, it can set on his head along with the media. Judges are there to HELP and PROTECT Brit and all the stress he added from his actions based on LIES has harmed her more than anything!

89. I feel sorry for the whole family. Brit is in desperate need of help. If it is bi-polar, she needs to be properly diagnosed and put on medication. She is not in the right frame of mind to even make any decisions, I wish someone would commit her so she can get some help. I really feel sorry for her babies. They are the innocent victims here.

90. well, why can't they get her committed. use the right people and doctors to committ her and there she goes in to the hospital...I know this for a fact, I had to have a husband committed for bi-polar. come on, family GET HER COMMITTED. AND NOW....something is truly wrong with this picture.
