Brit's Parents Tried to Commit Her

TMZ has learned Britney's parents -- especially her dad -- have been earnestly trying for months to get her committed into a mental hospital for a bipolar disorder.

We know Jamie Spears in particular has felt since last summer that Brit was suffering from a mental disease and not substance abuse. Jamie was looking for a way to push his daughter into a facility but she refused. Indeed, we're told she refused and continues to refuse to undergo a battery of tests that would officially diagnose the bipolar disorder.

We're told both Jamie and Lynne Spears believe Sam Lutfi, the guy who was inseparable from Brit until last week, was a prime reason she was refusing treatment. They are so mad at Lutfi they threw him out of Cedars last week.

93. I was diagnosed with Bi-polar eight years ago and have been saying for awhile now that Britney has the disorder. My family also thought that I was on drugs due to erratic behavior and financial irresponsibility. Being commited for YEARS is not necessary but a 45 day stay at an inpatient facility for evalutation and determination of the proper meds is. Bi-polar is a chemical imbalance in the brain that is 100% manageable with the proper meds and dosage, symptoms do not usually present until mid to late 20's, and is commonly misdiagnosed. Although, studies are being conducted now with people in that age bracket who were diagnosed with ADD and ADHD as children --- the thought process for many researchers is that children are being misdiagnosed with ADD and/or ADHD who are actually Bi-polar. I am not really a Britney fan one way or the other, I just follow up on anything that is related to Bi-polar with a hope to correctly informed people who are unaware of the details of this Disorder. People with Bi-polar are NOT Mentally Insane because it is totally 100% treatable. She will have to take medication for the rest of her life and regular visits to a therapist assists in living a healthy life with the disease. Yes, it is a disease!!! Good Luck to her and to anyone else who may be suffering from this Disorder.

95. actually i said about 3 months ago that she was exhibiting all the signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder...however, she cannot be committed unless she threatens suicide or to kill someone...committment is a very serious thing and the courts do not take it lightly, and even if she is committed she still has the legal right to refuse medication. meaning they can keep her for however long they deem necessary but she does not have to take the lithium, depakote, topamax, or antidepressants. the ONLY way she is going to be forced to take medication is IF k-fed stipulates that in the custody order along with weekly blood draws to make sure that she is taking the medication to check her levels as a condition of supervised visitation, then a few months later when she is more stable and complying with her treatment stepping it up to unsupervised day visits, then a few months later when that goes well he can/will step it up to unsupervised overnight visits eventually going back to either shared 50/50 custody or 70/30 custody where k-fed is the primary parent and britney gets weekends, holidays, and summers.
that being said, she don't strike me as the type to take the meds b/c with the exception of topomax all tend to cause pretty heavy weight gain, and you are not allowed to drink more than 1 drink per day with those b/c they already cause drowsiness. so she is super high risk for non-compliance.

96.

If you think Dr. Phil is bad, BELIEVE ME Oprah is even worse, and some day she will fall too. Dr.Phil and the other Dr. who killed Kanye West's mom are the products or Oprah Winfrey, that bitch is the resposible for sponsoring Crocks doctors on her show. She doesn't give a damn s**t if they are real doctors or not, or as long as they can talk fluently on TV that's all it matters to her.

That Oprah is pure trash, and an over valued whore, for me Tyra Banks's shows are way better, more constructive and positive than Oprah's show, OOH WAAAY BETTER. I really don't understand why Americans love so much Oprah, she's as phony as Dr Phil, even worse.

She's ridiculous, is funny to see her at the end of the year giving cars and expensive gifts which will be all deducted from tax, which means if she doesn't expend it, the goverment will take it anyway in taxes. Oprah is trash pure trash, if it wasn't for her, the mom of Kanye West should be alive near her son. That Oprah Winfrey woman is the biggest whore in television of all time, period.

97. Growing up with a bipolar parent is its own special nightmare. If
Britney refuses to get help, to hell with her. Just protect the kids
and keep her out of their lives.

My mother is bipolar, but has also refused help for the disorder.
Despite my father's stalwart efforts to provide a normal life for my
siblings and I, we spent our childhood dealing with extreme manic and
depressive episodes, periodic absences (she would simply disappear for
weeks or even months on end, then return unannounced), and
self-aborbed, narcissistic behavior.

When my father finally divorced her, there was a collective sigh of
relief. Sadly, the damage to the children had already been done.
Now adults, we each deal with a variety of issues as a result of this
experience.

Assuming Britney is bipolar, and won't get the help she needs, the
best thing the courts can do is prevent her from having access to the
children. Ever.

98. I dont' believe the reports that her drug tests were negative. She is abusing some substance, even if it is prescribed for her.

I also believe that going from a sex symbol, over achiever, bread winner and international star to a wife, mother of 2, then divorcee who hadn't been working (as she had done since childhood) for a period of time was overwhelming for her. She is acting out and it doesn't appear that she is around anyone who loves her for the person not the money or celebrity. It is truly sad. I hope she gets help before we're reading about her untimely death.

99. #64, your comment is not only incorrect, it just adds to the irresponsibility of what's going on. Bipolar has NEVER been connected with schizophrenia on any level. They are two VERY different disorders. Bipolar was and still is referred to as "manic depressive disorder". My god people, get your facts straight. A bunch of wannabe know it alls on here giving false information. I'm disorganized, I guess I have ADHD. My dad likes to check the back door twice before bed, I guess he has OCD. What a crock. The judge denied Britney because he said there was evidence of her being a habitual drug user. No one has the toxicology report in their hands, you were told what to believe. What a bunch of robots.

100. I delt with mental illness and I wouldn't wish it on no one. That's why there are people living in the streets. Grow up!

101. If Britney's parents REALLY want their daughter to be treated for whatever is the matter with her, they should know that they have to get a COURT ORDER or MANDATE (I don't know how it's called in the US) and have her committed to a hospital. That is the way to do it, Britney will never accept to go to a hospital, she will have to be forced into treatment. Why blame that man Osama Lufti, he is not a relative and has no power whatsoever in such a case. Excuses, excuses, ....... DO SOMETHING PARENTS or are you afraid Britney will cut off all your money ?

Posted at 2:40PM on Jan 9th 2008 by Why blame others

102. OK.........has everyone missed the obvious????? We can blame it on paparazzi, press, parents, Hollywood, drugs, booze, poor little rich girl syndrome..........whatever..........the bottom line to this is...........if SHE wanted things to be different, SHE would make it happen. Her poor children, don't need to be subjected to her daily psychotic rages. Everyday is something new and she can blame it on everyone else, but grow up Britney. If she doesn't want everyone in on her business then get out of the business. Take a sabatical, in Idaho or somewhere obscure........buy an island, whatever it takes. Here's your first clue, don't tell anyone where you're going. Your so-called friends and "family" aren't helping you either, make it happen and GROW UP. IF it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck......................if it looks like a drunken drugged out slut and acts like it...........it is. Just my opinion......:)

103. #90...I have 3 siblings who are diagnosed schizphremics. They are now in their 40's and 50's. They were diagnosed some 30 years ago. Now they have had their diagnosis's changed to bi-polar disorer. The mental health folks change terms all the time. I still call it schizophrenia.

104. This should be easy. Lots of young men arrested for minor crimes are given a choice by the judge, you can join the Army or you can go to jail.

Britney could be arrested for assaulting the bodyguard, custodial interference, child endangerment and who knows what else. Further she's in contempt of court for blowing off the Commissioner's orders (On a contempt charge, a judge can throw someone in jail for up to 6 months without a jury trial).

So why doesn't her family and K-Fed cooperate and haul her before the judge and let her choose-- do you want to go to the hospital or do you want to go to jail? The catch is, even if she chooses jail, the sheriff has the authority to make serve her sentence in the hospital-- so its no choice at all.

105. Very often patients who are bipolar self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, because they are looking for a simple solution to their problems, and you don't have to go to a doctor and admit you have a mental problem, you just go to the liquor store. So, Brit may have been using drugs and alcohol to quiet her head, but that is not her primary problem. Someone mentioned postpartum depression - I think Brit suffered an episode of postpartum psychosis after the birth of her last child, she hasn't been the same since.
