The New Air Jordan -- No, Really, It's Green

The latest Air Jordan sneaker has been unleashed, and despite what you might think you're seeing here, we're telling you -- it's a green shoe.
Michael Jordan's new Green shoe
Nike tells us that the Air Jordan XX3 is the first-ever basketball shoe in the Jordan Brand to be made with sustainable materials -- meaning it'll be around the next time MJ decides to unretire, whenever that is. It's coming out in a limited edition costing $230 which will only be available in 23 stores (sensing a theme here?) and then will be out wide -- for $185.

47. I find it interesting that so many of you are comfortable making veiled racist comments about the people you think buy these shoes. I am a white, middle-class citizen with a B.A, married to a woman with a B.S. with whom I own a house, and I collect Air Jordans. I'm sure it will come as a shock to many of you, but there are many others out there in the shoe community who are similarly educated and financially successful. It is rude, disrespectful, and uninformed of you to make cracks about Jordan wearers being poor, drug-dealing denizens of the ghetto.

Here is a quote from an Air Jordan shoe box some of you may find interesting: "A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of JORDAN products support educational initiatives." The Jordan Brand donates, and has done so for years, money to various charities that support improving the educational opportunities of children in low-income areas. My wife has a collection of Coach purses and I have never seen any claim made by that company that indicates they are as socially responsible as Jordan Brand. Indeed, I would love to see Coach and other companies embrace this type of philanthropic undertaking as it would make the $400 price tag a little more palatable. The closest Coach has come recently was selling a small fob to support breast cancer research. Here's an idea: Instead of donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of a particular item, do what Jordan Brand does and donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of EVERY item.

Nobody here has criticized Cole Haan, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Diesel, Lucky, Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Jimmy Choo, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Rolex, Movado, Tag Heuer, or any other maker of fine items for their high prices. I wonder why? My guess is that doing so would cause many of you to look in your closet or garage and realize you are passing judgment when you shouldn't be. We all earn our money and deserve to spend it as we see fit. I am going to continue to purchase Air Jordans and am happy that a portion of the purchase price is used to improve the lives of the less fortunate. I encourage you to look at your possessions and ask yourself what percentage of your luxury item expenditures goes to a worthy cause.

If you do not understand a behavior like shoe collecting, do so without attacking it. Or, go make fun of a little kid for making their parents line up for the latest Web Kinz or, worse yet in your eyes, paying a premium for it on eBay. Better yet, take a trip over to your aunt's house and ridicule her Beanie Baby collection. On the way home, stop by your Dad's house and berate him for foolishly collecting stamps and coins all these years. Finally, stand in front of the mirror and belittle yourself for owning more than 2 of anything. There have been collectors in every society on the planet for hundreds of years. We, the shoe community, understand your ignorance of our interest and respectfully request you do one of two things: Educate yourself about the culture in order to fully understand it; or, don't speak out of turn in an uninformed manner about a topic of which you have no knowledge (and some embarrassing racial-slurring tendencies).

48. those jordan's are $230?oh my god i like need my money so i can go get a fake tan and be nice and orange. Then i'll like go buy me a $800 gucci purse so i can fit in with all the fake/ snobby white chicks who have no individuality. So a black guy making money is wrong, but old white guys selling purses for $800 is cool? thats not racist is it?

52. Uh, TMZ dudes....

SUSTAINABLE refers to the planet. That means it's BIODEGRADABLE.

So the comment that it will be around when Jordan unretires again is really inaccurate. Just tryin' to educate ya'll.

55. Another Jordan shoe equats to another crime wave opportunity for kids that can't afford them. Limited to a 23 store release, this should be easy to monitor the number of thefts and assaults occurring within a specific radius.

56. dznutts
those that MJ is holding are not 230 they are 185 an other pair of XX3s in a different color are 230 and will only be abalable to the top 23 jordan acounts and each store will have only 23 pairs and their will be only 529 pairs in the US

57. I'd rather buy 10 pairs of Jordans than spend hard earned $$$ on gossip magazines or whatever crap that's "trendy" and would go out of style in less than one season.

58. Now, all the people that have been saving money by using food stamps this year can buy these for their teenage boys, who soooo deserve it. Then, they can drive around in their Mercedes, with the dealer tags still on it, cuz repo hasn't been called yet, looking all fly. "My momma can't afford the house we live in or the food we eat, but check out my new Jordon's."

60. If this was an Air Britney XX3 shoe all you stay at home losers would spend EVEN MORE time glued to the tv to hear about it. It might even be enough to tear you away from the perverse fascination with her little sister. You'd devote every ounce of your emotionally retarded mind to following the shoe and whether Britney would be in or out of rehab the day of the release. You'd camp on the sidewalk with portable tvs surrounding you so you don't miss a single minute of the droning, mind-numbing gossip "news". You'd scream and argue like a Life and Death matter over whether the White Trash Edition or the Cokehead Edition of the shoe was better and what it all means in the context of your meaningless "life".
