Coroner: Donda Had a Heart Attack

TMZ has just received the final coroner's report on the death of Donda West. The L.A. County Coroner has concluded that Kanye's mom died of "coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors due to or as a consequence of liposuction and mammoplasty." Plainly put, she had a heart attack after the surgery.

The report indicates her final manner of death "could not be determined."

The coroner says several things could have played a role in her death, but they could not say for sure what exactly killed her, adding there was no evidence that anesthesia -- or even the surgery -- caused or contributed to her death.

We've reported extensively that Donda West had cosmetic surgery the day before her death -- performed by Dr. Jan Adams, who was not board certified in plastic surgery. We know another doctor refused to operate on West before Adams came into the picture. The other doc had said she had a medical condition that made her a candidate for a heart attack.

The Coroner's report narrative states that Stephen Scoggins (Donda's nephew), a nurse with an advanced degree in Public Health, was called by a friend of Donda to go to the surgery center where the procedures were performed, because Ms. West was not "waking up soon enough."

West died on November 10. We're told her family has been told of the results, but her family declined to release a statement.

Story developing ...

32. wonder if Dr. Adams will be invited on Larry King now that he has more or less been vindicated...you know when you have surgery you sign a hold harmless contract dont you? I mean saying that you know the risks etc., wonder if Donda signed one of those...so how rationale is it that a woman who knows she has coronary disease goes under the knife...risky to say the least...at least I think Dr. Adams is off the hook...what they did to that poor man was such a sin...!!!

33. Hey Teresa, STFU and go create a blog. No one wants to hear your crap here.

34. Dr. Adams is a quack, but Donda West seeked him out, irony at its finest.

35. Donda West should have been kept overnight for observation in light of her age and weight.

36. Teresa, I use to work in a mortuary where I processed Death Certificates. I can tell you the reason the Dr. at Moreno Valley wouldn't sign the dc is because he wasn't the primary dr. and probably had no idea what your fathers medical history was. The surgeon at Loma Linda, same thing. He wouldn't sing a dc because he's only the surgeon, not the primary dr. (It's very rare for a surgeon to sign a dc.) If your father was older, sick, had a history of any disease, etc. his primary dr. has that information and would then provide that information as causation - meaning these things played a part in your fathers death. The sheriff's coroner doesn't usually do an autopsy unless the death was suicide, murder, the person was very young and had no history of disease, things like that. But for someone who is older and has a dr. willing to provide medical information, the sheriff's coroner will not get involved unless you pay them. Even then in that sort of case, the causes that the dr. gives usually are the causes that will go on the death certificate. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do at this point is to demand your money back from the coroner's office. You may feel the causes on the dc are wrong, but unless it's preventing you from receiving insurance money or causing some other hardship (other than personal emotional hardship), there's very little anybody can do about it, and you'll end up waisting a lot of time and money - not to mention the added heartache and stress.
I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm also sorry that there's not much you can do to change this situation.

37. Jimbo

You just wait. One of these days, you are going to need help just like Teresa. I for one will not help you. You have no heart to help anyone else.

Teresa, let me check around. I'll see what I can find. I look up your Statue that you sited. And if your events took place as you stated, the Sheriff's Coroner didn't follow the law. The statue states that:

The medical and health section data and the time of death shall be completed and sttested to by the physician and sergeon last in attendance.

That clearly didn't happen.

38. Its very unfortunate that Donda West had to die but those are the consequences of going against a GOOD doctor's opinion and putting yourself in the hands of someone sketchy. If she wanted to lose weight that bad how about try eating better and getting active. Liposuction wouldnt have even been very effective in someone her size. I hope this teaches everyone that the only way to good health is living healthfully, appearance isnt everything and should never come before your health, no matter who you are.

40. The woman was in no shape for surgery. The doctor should never have agreed to operate on her. He just wanted her money. He should have thought about her welfare more. He should lose his license. This is gross malpractice.

41.
He should not of operated her. She had changed her mind a few times during the summer, he said.
He then suggested she died from a Vicodin overdose.
Isn't that more then slander?

42. That one Girl.

Thank you... Finally... I agree with you 100%. But the Primary Care Physician says that even thought he signed the death cert.. he said that he doesn't know how he died. He said that he signed it so that death benifits would be process faster. He is the one that sent me to the Coroner's office to Pay Them...

I asked for my money back. They declined because they said that even though the autopsy was in error, they said that they still performed the service.

44. That one Gril

Actually, you are partially right. The one thing that isn't right is that the primary doctor must be able to CERTIFY to the cause of death. If that doctor has not seen the patient in over 40 days like Teresa has reported, then "he can't cerfify to the cause of death" legally.
