"Pulp" Writer Popped for DUI After Fatal Crash

Roger AvaryThe guy who co-wrote "Pulp Fiction" with Quentin Tarantino was arrested Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter and felony DUI, after the car he was driving crashed, injuring his wife and killing his other passenger.

Roger Avary was driving in Ojai, Calif. early Sunday morning when the accident occurred, throwing wife Gretchen from the car and killing Andreas Zini, a friend visiting from Italy. Zini died later Sunday morning from "internal injuries." Avary's wife was in stable condition as of Sunday night.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department said that Avary was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He posted $50,000 bail and was released.

Avary -- who won an Oscar for "Fiction" -- also co-wrote "Beowulf" and directed "The Rules of Attraction."

31. He may be a very nice guy, but he drove whilst impaired and killed someone. He will go to jail. It's the law. And by the way, anyone who drinks and drives and THINKS they are fine has a real problem. Their tolerance of alcohol indicates they drink too much, and need to stop.

And yes, I have had a DUI. And yes, I thought I was fine. The cop that pulled me over saved my life.

33. This is tragic for everyone involved. I personally knew each of these families.

Our prayers and offer of support go to you, Ms. Zini and your beloved Italian family and friends.

34. I am beginning to think that the, in this case, wife, should be charged as an accomplice, Presuming she wasn't as drunk as he, or drunk at all, and if she let him drive drunk, then she is just as guilty.

36. We're not seeing any reports of a alcohol blood count. Why is that?
I'm aquainted with Mr. Avary and this will be a crushing blow to him and the impact he has had on so many lives.
It's not just the lives of his wife, the death of his friend and the impact on that friend's family, but also on the lives of all who know Roger and work with him. Not to mention the lives of the folks awaiting to work on his next projects...
(Before you go off... I work on "Every 15 Minutes" anti-drunk driving programs for high schools.)
It's very easy to slam someone from behind the mask of the internet without knowing the person you're bashing.
Knowing that person, what they're going through, and the affect they're having on the lives of others is another thing entirely.

38. Roger is a good guy - he just made one stupid mistake. Go easy on him! He's really hurting right now, worried about his wife, mourning his friend. Have a little sympathy!

39. "Jules" - you have got to be just as asleep as the drunken, selfish driver...

"Mourning his friend." ???

How long did he know this "friend?" Was it even 3 weeks, as was the time that Sig Zini was married to his lovely bride? What "friend" takes the life of another by such poor choices?

Jules, come now. You already find Avary "Not Guilty." Were you also a part of OJ's jury?

40. "shouldnotagot_cashomtized" - Calm down fella - Obviously, if he was drunk then he is guilty. I never said he was innocent. I only said he made a stupid mistake. Roger is not like the usual snotty celebrity who thinks they can do whatever they like. He is one of the good guys - I know this because I know him. As for his friend, what word would you have liked better? Maybe "aquaintance"? As for OJ, don't you dare lump Roger in with a man who intentionally murdered his wife and her "friend". I think your emotions are getting the better of you. Calm down.
