AP to Britney: We Have Your Obit Ready to Go!

Britney SpearsBritney Spears hasn't died, but the Associated Press has an obituary already written, should something happen to the "at-risk" former pop star.

TMZ spoke to AP Entertainment Editor Jesse Washington who confirmed the news. Washington told Us Weekly, "We would never wish any type of misfortune on anybody and hope that we would never have to use it until 50 years from now, but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared."

It is not uncommon for news organizations like AP to have obituaries prepared for high-profile people -- the unusual thing is that they're usually prepped for the very sick or aged.

46. TMZ rose to prominence among the online tabloids thanks to coverage of the Anna Nicole Smith story and the bad-girl antics of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Britney. The one still having a shelf life worthy of gossip is Britney and Britney is the last "big story" here. TMZ would fade into obscurity among the online entertainment gossip tabloids without her. Does the Associated Press have an obituary already written TMZ?

51. "...but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared." Wtf?! First off, "HAVE to be prepared."? What, like somewhere it is written, "If Britney Spears dies, you MUST be prepared.". I would have at least used the word "would" instead. Geez, they make it sound as if they're preparing for a natural disaster.
