Martha's Dishes Made My Kids Sick!

A Pennsylvania couple is suing Martha Stewart Living and K-Mart, claiming the domestic diva's "Everyday" dinnerware -- with the lovely name "Flowers and Buds Border" -- contains lead and is responsible for poisoning their children. Get the lead out!

In the lawsuit, filed on behalf of their two kids Michael and Matthew, Sandra and Raymond Dombroski allege the boys were poisoned by lead in the dinnerware, which caused the boys to suffer "mental, emotional and cognitive impairment, learning disability" as well as speech problems and physical impairment and a host of other problems. That's not a good thing!

Flowers and Buds dishesThe Dombroskis say that the lead problem is a result of "negligent, reckless, intentional and outrageous conduct of MSLO..." (that's Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia), and they've served up a heaping lawsuit asking for compensatory and punitive damages.

A spokesperson for MSLO told TMZ "We take consumer product safety very seriously. We do not comment on pending litigation."

32. Ummm, I have these dishes and I bought them about five years ago. I've NEVER had a problem and my kids and I are fine. These people just want money!

34. Very simple .... get a court order to have their tap water tested. There is probably more lead in their H2O than in anthing that could have been in the dishes. Also, get a search warrant to go through their home and pull anything and everything which contains lead. This could even be the family car. Or .. how about the lead/mercury that is in certain vaccines? This is a B*S lawsuit which can never be proven and I'll bet dollars to donuts that the family is hoping for an out-of-court settlement. Turn the tables and sue THEM for defamation and fraud.

35. Stupid people breed stupid children. Stupid people buy crap from China.

Which came first, the stupid or the lead?

36. We Boomers grew up with so-called "dangerous" lead paint all around us ... from the paint on our toys to the paint on our walls. I never knew a single "retarded" or autistic child until I was a parent myself. Hell, my grandfather played with lead toy soldiers and he lived to be 96. This lead-scare is a bunch of crap. Test your water ... it's very likely there is more lead in your tap water than in any toy from China ( or anyplace else. )

37. I want to get sick off something so I can sue! Or, burn my mouth on hot coffee because the cup did not warn me. Really, I do!

38. Well, first of all, being a mother of 6, I can't afford Martha Stewart, anything!!! However, it doesn't mean that lead is not present in cheap dishes as well. I agree that test should be done before anyone starts to bring up the word "sue", but I also agree that if in fact the dishes are what caused it, then Martha should be held responsible. It is a product being placed into society under her name, so unfortunately, she's the one to answer to any problems. Products should definitely be tested before it is distributed. As for the family, I feel really bad for them because lead poisoning is serious. I wish them the best of luck.

39. Why would ANYONE call the lawsuit frivolous? Obviously, the must have the dinnerware test positive. Lead is EXTREMELY dangerous in even the smallest amounts and can cause a normal healthy child to end up mentally retarded for life or dead.

40. If the plates do contain lead then they have every right to sue.

Lead poisoning is dangerous and deadly.
Which is why we have all these toy recalls.
Children are more susceptible.
This can cause life time medical problems.

41. I'll bet you another ten bucks that their kids are couch potatoes who wouldn't know an organic vegetable if it bit them on their lardy butts.

So, which came first, the crappy diet or the stupid?

42. I agree that this is probably nothing more than an attempt to extort money from a big company, but TMZ should have acted in a prudent manner and redacted the address of the parents bringing the lawsuit.

Sounds to me like this couple had 2 autistic kids and since it couldn't possibly be their defective genes that caused it, the cause must be something else -- like the dinner plates they eat off. Yeah. Whatever.

43. Maybe the Lead was from toys from China maybe they should sue China too!

44. The dishes are probably made in China and with the reputation that manufacturers in China have concerning lead there may be some truth to the story. I have asked these same questions about lead in dishes for quite some time but it appears that there is little concern for anything that affects an adult when it comes to lead contamination. It's all about the money whether it is some personal gain or how cheap at any cost can we get this product. Follow the money and you will always find the answer.
