In fact what he was trying to do was host her parents on his show which is the worst form of exhibitionism and I can't think of a more devastatingly damaging thing to do to a person in need of PROFESSIONAL psychological help due in large part to the behaviours of those very same parents!

He had no business being in the hospital offering his services -- which are as an ENTERTAINER (read his disclaimers) and NOT as a practicing psychologist or psychiatrist

Oh, and to all you Phil apologists, let me tell you what he SHOULD have done, and then you'll realize how inappropriate his actions were.
- first, having been invited by her PARENTS (NOT HER) to the hospital, he should have simply gone to her room and asked if he could talk to her
- second, if she blew him off, HE SHOULD HAVE LEFT
- third, if she agreed to listen, he should have immediately made it clear that his interest in her was STRICTLY as a family friend and NOT as "Dr" Phil (which of course would have precluded ANY IDIOCIES like TALKING to the media or TRYING to get her parents on his show.
- finally, he should have offered her the name(s) of HIGHLY TRAINED, DISCREET, PSYCHOLOGISTS / PSYCHIATRISTS who could be of genuine help to her (assuming he knows any)
GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

51. I don't understand all the comments about Brit. She isn't the one publishing all this crap. I watched TMZ once on TV and the "TMZ staff" are a bunch of ignorant kids who need to be sprayed for lice. Chances are none of you actually know Brit, but
are all making medical diagnosis about her....and I'm relatively sure, none of you have the credentials to do so. Folks...get real.
This is a comic book. I like comic books, and I come here because it's entertaining. But the credibility here is zip. You have an editor who submitted a video tape during the Simpson trial supposedly showing Marcia Clark searching OJ's house before getting a search warrant. Two days later the tape was thrown out and Harv had to publicly apologize. He was a lawyer that couldn't cut it and will be remembered as a gay doorstop for daytime TV. Credible? Give me a break.

It's the worst case of patient "friend" exploitation from a professional I have ever seen.

58. Thanks Dr. Phil. Britney needs help. She is suffering from post partum. Our hopes are that she listens to someone. She has kids now - she can't be one. She needs medical attention and support from her fans instead of criticism. I wish her the best. Thank goodness for Dr. Phil.

59. Think he would have ever made these comments if he weren't being investigated by the medical board, I highly doubt it. Dr. Phil if you were as experienced as you claim to be well you would of known better. You're just trying to cover your butt now that all h*ll has broken out. You are a phoney, anyone could do what you are doing by practicing common sense. Maybe you have screwed up so much that you like to make yourself feel better by dipping your nose into everyone else's junk, so you don't have to look at yours?

60. Amazing!! This young girl is in a serious downward spiral and is in need of some serious intervention. All day long all we hear is something needs to be done or she is going to be the next Anna Nicole Smith. FINALLY someone steps up to the bat and what happens? He gets slammed so hard that it is ridiculous. I applaud Dr. Phil for at least TRYING to do something, anything to get her help. To tell the truth - I don't think the public really wants to see her get help. It is too entertaing to watch her life go on the rocks. Sad - really sad.
