Heath Ledger

is Dead

1/22/2008 6:40 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0122_ledger_ex_1-1TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime, adding that prescription pills were found near his body.

According to NYPD a masseuse arrived at Ledger's apartment and was let in by a housekeeper. When Ledger didn't answer his bedroom door, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened it and found him unconscious. They attempted to wake him; when they couldn't, they called 911.

We're told when paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight" and is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking role as Ennis in "Brokeback Mountain."

We're told Heath had dinner last night with his model girlfriend Gemma Ward.

A REAL Cowboy

I hope they find that he took his pills accidentally and that he COULD have been saved 'if only' the housekeeper had called '911' straight away. That way it will be so much harder for his mesmerized, impressionable and 'hero' worshipping 'fans' to accept his death and they will spend all their idle time thinking it could have been prevented - if only.

I hope they don't spend TOO much time on it though - I mean don't the younger generation like to quote 'hip' comments like - 'Get OVER it' or 'Move ON'. Well, that's what THEY now need to do before it controls THEIR lives and as it could affect their daily work they all need to get right back to work and be fully focused on the job (that matters!) so they can make more money for their Boss.
And while they are working (instead of 'dreaming') I hope they STOP mumbling 'OMG' and 'WTF' because it's EVER so BORING!

If they all must worry about something, they only need think about poor President Bhutto being blown to pieces or Sir Edmund Hillary (recently deceased) who actually climbed the biggest mountain (Everest) rather than make a dumb-ass movie about some useless, 'gay' mountaineer.
Think about 'real-life' people versus overpaid pretenders who just 'read their lines'!

Why stress out for an overexposed, over-rated jock who 'partied on' and had fun while we all had/have to work?
Just CHILL OUT.

What a loss. A child lost her Daddy. A Mother and Father lost their son. What a tragic end. So many young people are losing their lives to prescription drugs. ( I know the facts arent in yet) I have lost 2 friends in the past year to prescription drugs that their Dr.s gave them. This is just sooo sad. Hopefully people will use this as an example.

Such a sad thing for his family. How are the housekeeper and massage ladies going to get around he was in there dying while they were in the apartment and why call an olsen girl twice instead of 911 when you realize there is something wrong. I get there are other more important things in the word and that "people die every day" but maybe the highlights on this will help some have more compassion for others who have loved ones that passed. I hope when it all comes back there can be a message in it about Dr's or pharmacists or even us consumers knowing that when we are sick that our body wont react the same to the rx drugs we always take.

Good Grief It's misstresses.com

Hey everyone...Maybe he rolled up the bill while talking on the phone or something...nervous energy ya know...He had pnuemonia which is very hard on the heart...he snored (which can be a dangerous thing especially if you are medicated and your heart has slowed way down...the waking impulse doesn't happen because all the drugs have you out cold...That's why they call it sedated). He didn't sleep and he took perscriptions. Ambien is a quick acting sleeping aid. if you do not fall asleep in the first 30 minutes after taking it then it isn't going to work...Someone who is stressed out and who takes drugs as perscribed but doesn't sleep, puts alot of stress onto the heart. You run on emotions...Your body is so tired but your brain is wired open. These drugs do different things to different people. They are to be taken as prescribed...Some should be taken everyday...Sometimes peeps forget a day or they think they don't need them...It's chemistry and it's a crapshoot and it's dangerous.Sleep deprivation is a serious thing. Depression is a serious thing...Anxiety is a serious thing...Throw them all together with medication for each one and it's a fine line.Heath was a laid back person which is another thing. If you are a really calm person and you are taking drugs to further calm you down then that is another thing to think about. Valium and Xanax at the same time is a medical oxymoron...They both have half lives which means it takes a longtime to recover from them...It's dangerous..Throw in Lunesta (a sleeping pill) and Ambien (another sleeping pill)...He was sleep deprived...he couldn't wake up...Have you ever heard someone snore and then wake themselves from it? well, that is the body and the brain telling them that something is out of balance...This is why peeps go to rehab because it takes a long time for the body and mind to work together again...I'm just sharing what I know...I'm gonna save judgement and pray that his family has acceptance more than sadness and if they are sad that they have each other close by and remember the good things. That's all I have...

The question I dont see asked yet is "Why" would he have 5 or 6 different perscriptions for sleep and anxiety medicines.? Especially if he was being treated for "Pneumonia"???!!I mean it brings to mind the "Anna Nicole Smith" saga and the price of Celebrity. When I watched Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew the celebrities ( or ex celebrities) were talking about how drugs etc were thrown at them for free.
It begs the question of unethical doctors and others and I am just so sad for his baby and the babies mum.
He was too young and its all very unbelievable and so tragic..Great Talent and he will be missed...sad indeed.
In the end I suppose it was also his own fault if he did not take the medications as were perscribed but there needs to be better healthcare initiatives for everyone not just the rich and famous.
For cripes sakes I was in so much pain one day ( Car accident/hit and run) and was told to take 2 advil and rest..okay enough said..

I was watching the news about the upcoming Batman movie a few hours before Heath Ledger's death and I also thought he looked just like Brandon Lee in The Crow...It really shook me up a few hours later when CNN posted the news of his sudden death. I am so shocked.

The description of Heath's death is consisitant with a stroke or burst vessel in the brain. The snoring especially - also seen in head trauma patients - indicates this and his earlier insommnia signals a problem. If he had been a little older and a little less famous that would have been the first thing an autopsy looked for - but no! He's an actor so you all assume it was a drug overdose - accidental or deliberate - rather than a dreadfully tragic natural occurrance. An autopsy that doesn't look into that possibility will remain inconclusive . You will rest as you lived and died Heath, in peace and harmony in a higher life. xxx

How come even in the wake of someone's death people gotta be rude and write bogus ass comments?? If there is ever a time to be respectful now is the time. Think how his family would feel if they read someone the comments people are leaving...So damn disrespectful. I think this is soo sad. Another great actor lost, A daughter to grow up without her father, Parents without their son....Ugh, so sad. My condolences to the friends and family, you all are in my thoughts and prayers as you face the hard times ahead of you!!!

Because of the "high stress" he was under lately, did any doctor ever check his thyroid?

There is a thyroid condition called Graves disease - brought on by stress - that causes severe insomnia, anxiety, irritability, hyper-metabolism, heat intolerance, rapid and irregular heart beats, fatigue, muscle and joint aches. If left untreated, the disorder can become deadly ----- and this is especially dangerous if you take psuedoephedrine -- a common ingredient in many cold medicines (you'll see the thyroid warnings on the package)

Many people develop Graves disease shortly after a major stressful event, such as a marriage break-up or death in the family. Just something that needs to be checked during the autopsy - not sure if the antibodies that cause Graves disease will tested or not on Heath or not??.,,,,Maybe TMZ can let the coroners know to look???
