Heath's Dad -- "Heath Touched So Many People"

Heath Ledger's father, Kim Ledger, flanked by his family, released a statement on Australian television.


We, Heath's family, confirm, the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.

We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.

He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our families need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

Are you suggesting that people never "accidentally" overdose? A heroin addict doesn't necessarily want to die. They are just after a high. In this case, at least from early reports, it would seem like Heath Ledger could have either been ill or suffering from insomnia. He spoke in interviews how Ambien wasn't working for him. How he would take one and another and still not be able to sleep. To me it just sounds like he was desperate for sleep and either took too many pills or mixed prescription sleep aids with over the counter medications plus whatever else he was prescribed for ailments or conditions. We won't know until toxicology reports come back. He could've had a brain hemmorage or heart attack for all we know. But the "accident" they are referring to is the probability that he took too many pills or mixed the wrong ones. It happens all the time. Yeah, suicide is a possibility too but you'd think he'd at least write a note for his daughter, for his ex fiancee and family. Not to mention put on some clothes! It really seems like he just wanted to sleep and made a bad choice to get that sleep.

186. This is great. You are allowed to die of a drug overdose and not get negative comments on TMZ as long as TMZ and the paps were not following your every move and throwing a spotlight on every wrong you even think of committing. Why didn't Anna Nicole get such a warm send off?

187. I would like to know the BAC(Blood Alcohol Level) for Heath Ledger. Police claim his death was due to a drug overdose. What drug? The coroner should tell us.

Ambien wasn't working for him because he had built up a tolerance from abusing it or some other sleeping aid. Also, he was clearly high when he did that interview.

It sounds like you are making excuses for your friend and Heath. Either your firend is a drug addict or she was trying to committ suicide. When's the last time a headache, depression or anything else made your forget you took legions of pills? With friends like you your friendly will eventually be successful at taking her life.
