TMZ has learned Lindsay Lohan was seen sobbing inside La Scala with friends DJ AM and Samantha Ronson -- as the group consoled each other after learning of Heath Ledger's death.
Our cameras tried to get comment from Lohan about her former party pal's passing as she left the restaurant, but she was silent, and hid her face from cameras as her driver drove off. We're told the two were "very close" for some time.

MIchelle, MIltilda and Heaths family.and friends in the entertainment world as well as personal friends...may you be able to celebrate Heaths life and remember Heaths laugh, how he sat watching reading a script, drinking a coffee, playing on the floor, or carrying his daughter, or giving advice, or while driving around, just trying to be the regular Joe he missed being. distraught over the death of the very talented young man. Well, I
hope they suffer and I hope that the always remember that they could
of interevened and helped this guy with the drug problems he must of
had. Lindsay Lohan should be sad because it should of been her dead
not this guy. Britney it should have been you and Paris Hilton it
would definately have been a godsend to see you on the front of a
tabloid with the word "dead" written across your face. All these
woman who are considered the hollywood elite know they got loaded
with Heath...and the Olsen twins, I hate the person who made them
famous and rich because outside of the other 3 women mentioned there
are no 2 people who are a waste of space then those hideous bug eyed
