TMZ has learned Lindsay Lohan was seen sobbing inside La Scala with friends DJ AM and Samantha Ronson -- as the group consoled each other after learning of Heath Ledger's death.
Our cameras tried to get comment from Lohan about her former party pal's passing as she left the restaurant, but she was silent, and hid her face from cameras as her driver drove off. We're told the two were "very close" for some time.

Maybe Heath touched all these peoples' lives (yes, even Ms. Lohan) in small/huge ways you can't even grasp. It's not for us to judge. 125. Leave Lindsay the hell alone. Who are any of you to say that she is not truly mourning. How would you feel if someone said that about you when a friend or just someone you knew died? You have no idea how well she knew him. As far as her attention whoring the situation, she could have just found out while out at lunch. A lot of people are sad and maybe crying - people (fans) that never even met him. So you want to doubt her sincerity? How disrespectful to everyone involved, most of all to Heath.

127. Maybe this will be a wake up call for Lindsey and all the other stars who have messed up lives. Anyone can die at anytime, for any reason. Maybe they'll start taking better care of themselves and quit acting like fools. Maybe they should honor Ledger and take pride in their work and quit taking their positions for granted. He didn't seem to care about being a "celebrity" and cared more about his craft. RIP Heath Ledger. We'll miss you.
