More Than Five Drugs Found in Heath's Apartment

Heath LedgerTMZ has learned what types of pills were discovered in the apartment where Heath Ledger was found dead.

NYPD sources tell TMZ that nearly full pill bottles containing the anti-anxiety medications Alprazolam (Xanax), Diazepam (Valium) and Lorazepam (Ativan) were found in the apartment. The sleeping medication Zopiclone (Lunesta) and the sedative Temazepam (Restoril) -- which is used by people with "debilitating insomnia" -- were also found.

All of the drugs were prescribed to Ledger.

46. Will this be changing in the next hour or shall I go to bed and wait for you to retract this story tomorrow?

47. Zopiclone is NOT Lunesta. Lunesta is a single isomer of zopiclone and is actually eszopiclone. If it was in fact zopiclone then is is a drug only sold outside the US. Also, the usage required to OD on zopiclone alone is over 350 mg!

48. Doctors are mondern day drug dealers. Why doesn't law enforcement start cracking down on them like they do street criminals. Prescription drugs have been the drugs of choice for higher income addicts for a long time now and yet you seldom hear of their dealers getting arrested unless they get the drugs on the street.

49. The NYPD said most of the bottles were FULL!! The man suffered from insomnia and anxiety (per his own words in recent interviews). The pills prescribed to him are for those reasons. He might of tried one, it didn't work, the doctor prescribed another, maybe that didn't work and so on. He didn't throw the prescriptions away when one didn't work and I am sure the doctor prescribing them told him not to combine them. I don't think this poor man intentionally overdosed or tried to commit suicide. It could have been from something totally different........that is why they do autopsy's. The whole story is tragic.

53. I have the same meds at my place as well. Seriously. It does not mean I want to die. I just have a LOT of trouble sleeping. I'm full of life. I get wound up too much sometimes, and I worry other times.

I guess I'll just have to be super careful about it all now, because one frustratingly bad sleepless week can be lethal.

Poor Heath. I know how awful it must have been for him. Anxiety, and I mean RAL ANXIETY is a horrible thing to go through. As for the Suicide theory, - NO WAY! As melancholy as he could be at times, he had the spark of life in his eyes.

We will all miss you Heath.

54. How can anybody be concerned with our troops oversees when a great non-American like Heath Ledger is murdered in this great land.

Seriously folks, get your priorities straight.

...and please, let's pay more attention to the pornification of American than we do losers like Heath Ledger, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan.

55. #25.. or whoever referenced snoring. I don't think it would be possible to snore while on your stomach. Snoring is generally caused by a prolapse in the throat tissue or the epiglottis, and this usually only happens while on your back. If he was making a snoring noise, it was probably because he was in respiratory failure, or the body making what is called "the death rattle".

As several others said, these bottles were practically full. He was likely trying to find something that worked. Lunesta does not work for me. Other than Alprazolam, I don't have any experience with any of those other meds, except Valium when I had eye surgery. It made me sick, not relaxed at all. Everyone is different, and it takes a while to find out what works. It would not have been responsible for them to be thrown in the trash. He also could have had multiple doctors who weren't aware of what the others prescribed. He could have also been using different pharmacies, whereas one would have made him aware of possible drug interactions. That's the patients responsibility. But some of these drugs are controlled substances and if he was getting them from a pharmacy, it would have been tracked. When the toxicology results come back, it will probably show a drug interaction or a just over borderline overdose, which would definitely rule out suicide. Dr. Drew said on the Today show that for a man of Heath's size to commit suicide using OTC sleeping pills, it would take a massive quantity.

56. The drugs listed, even in combination, would not likely be lethal --a healthy 28 yr old man might sleep a long time but would definitely wake up. There is nothing dangerous whatsoever about valium + ativan, or temazepam or any other benzodiazepine in combination. Y'all need to check your pharmacology before spouting off. you sound like Tom Cruise re antidepressants! Get some facts!

57. The autopsy was not conclusive but many say multiple prescription drugs was in possession.
Apparently some people knew about his problems, it's a tragedy and it is hard to make sense
of his death.

58. All but one of those medications is from the same class of drugs. It would not be unusal for a person with anxiety and sleep problems to have several different perscriptions. If all the pills were in his stomach and not the bottles that would be one thing. But this tells us nothing new. Sure, mixing all these meds can kill you, but so can a bottle of Advil. All we know is he had anxiety and sleep meds - like about half the world.
