Money in Ledger's Apartment Being Tested

UPDATE: Cops in New York say the rolled-up $20 bill did not appear to have any drug residue on it -- but they are in the process of testing it.

TMZ has confirmed with NYPD sources in the Heath Ledger investigation that cops found a $20 bill rolled up "in a certain way" with a powdered substance on it. Our sources say they don't know what the nature of the powder is, but it's being tested at the police lab.

CBS 2 in NYC is reporting cops found drug packets along with the $20 bill in Ledger's apartment.

Our sources say the manner in which the bill was rolled made them "suspicious."

91. I'm sorry, but none of us have a right to rush to judgement. By rushing to judgememnt you idiots are making a tragic story even worse. He was a fine actor and had so much life ahead of him as well as a daughter that will never know her father's love...that is the most tragic aspect of it all, yet you are accusing him of being a drug addict without even knowing for sure...talk about disrespecting the deceased! Heath Ledger, you will be missed and the film industry is a bit darker without you.

92. I think it's clear to see by the downward spiral of his looks that he was addicted to drugs. I mean don't get me wrong I liked the guy and saw many of his movies, but it was pretty plain to see. I also understand that you who loved him want to stick up for him and say he wasn't and that's fine too.

What is sad is that nobody helped the guy in time of need, maybe because he was so reclusive?

Sad thing though, rest in peace Heath.

93. Props to you Blah. I agree wholeheartedly.

What is with the complete ignorance of the commenters here?
'omg i can't feel sorry for a druggie, drug, omg when i heard a healthy 28yro was dead i was like DRUGS, rofl rofl lolomgcakes.'

Addiction is a serious condition, sometimes it's can be genetic and addictive behaviour can manifest in many ways and destroy lives just the same as drugs. I'm sure if someone got into debt for a shopping addiction, maybe ended up in abject poverty and consequently died, i'm sure people wouldn't be like, OMG SHOPPO i totally hope ur in hellZ.
Well i might be wrong, some of you heartless lurkers probably would.

Like many people said, he's gone. We're not sure why yet. But is it that important? Seriously?
Either you admired the man or you couldn't care less. If the latter move on and read about Britney. If you're having a bitch because people in iraq are dying without similar news coverage, go find a support forum for the army or something and pay the respect you feel they are entitled to.

Or you could like, omg tots get a lyfe!

94. can somebody find me (seriously) an article where it mentions heath ledger and his supposed drug addiction? (not recent and not tmz)
I have a feeling this is all speculation now...
As i'm pretty sure he and michelle williams split amicably... not because he was 'dabbling in drugs'

95. Regardless of what he did for work, he was a little girl's father. Poor child.

98. A guy his age usually doesn't just keel over and die. There is some underlying reason for it and given all the pills that were found, it will probably be ruled an accidental overdose due to dangerous drug interactions (much like ANS son Daniel).

Prescription or not, just say no to drugs!! We are an over prescribed, over medicated society as it is!!

99. To ME (#68) who said: "Who thinks he's in Hell now? I do." -- What the hell is wrong with you? And with the other people who expressed similar sentiments? Maybe he was living hell on earth because of whatever he was going through but to say he's in hell now is just sick and cruel. I cannot believe some of the comments I've read here!!!!! >:(

102. If he was 'dabbling in drugs', would he have been sharing custody of their daughter with Michelle Williams? Seems to me like if him doing drugs was the reason she left him, then she would have wanted to make sure her daughter was safe as well. I don't buy it. TMZ will print anything to get attention. Unless and until the NYC coroner's office or the NYPD come out and say conclusively that cocaine use was the cause of death (and I have my doubts as to whether or not that will happen) everyone needs to just shut the hell up. He was talented and gifted, and plenty of people are saddened by his passing, regardless of the cause, not the least of whom are his family, friends and child. Have a little respect for the dead. Or would you like it if when they saw your loved ones obit in the paper, they sat around speculating about how they died and saying horrible, mean, disrespectful things? TMZ, you suck for printing this crap. All you have is rumor and speculation and you try to pass it off as corroborated fact. Every time I come to this site, I keep hoping that your standards will be just the tiniest bit higher, but I can see that my expectations are unrealistic where that is concerned. And apparently my expectations concerning my fellow bloggers are way too high as well. Keep waiting for most of you to grow a soul and a heart, but I see I am hoping for too much.

103. Okay all those weasels who are deep in the speculation that he had snort in his apartment. CNN is reporting now that there were NO ILLEGAL DRUGS IN HIS APARTMENT. Time for TMZ to retract now, huh?

I swear people thrive more on gossip than truth.

104. Who's Killing the Gay-Actors.

Heath Ledger is found dead of an apparent drug overdose in the bedroom of an apartment in New York City, a week after Brad Renfro is found dead of an apparent drug overdose in the bedroom of his apartment in Los Angeles. Both young actors gained acclaim for roles in controversial gay-themed films-- Ledger in the Academy Award-nominated Brokeback Mountain, and Renfro in Apt Pupil, Bryan Singer's Nazi movie that led to lawsuits by underage male extras who claimed they were forced into nudity. Sadly, They Die in Threes, so we await the next Marilyn Monroe-Anna Nicole style death of a young, talented male actor.

105. THANK YOU Stupid Oughta Hurt. You are absolutely right. And as I saw on another blog somewhere today. If stupid really DID hurt, these a**holes would all be in traction.

TMZ print a retraction? Right, you have a better chance of seeing Jesus directing traffic in Mid-town Manhattan. What do they care than they are damaging the reputation of a man who is no longer here to defend himself? They're just glad he can't sue them for slander!
