Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

287. It was STAGED people. Are you all that dumb, or what?

288. For those who critizise DDL sincerity. You got to understand thats Its just a normal, instictive & compassionate response by Daniel Day-Lewis who probably sees a lot of his young self in Heath Ledger.

In fact, how can you even concieve that DDL would exploit Heath Ledger death? Its pretty much universally known around the world by now about his death, thats if you dont have any tv, radio or the internet. For you even to even imply that he was mentioning his death for his own benefit is just absolutely comical. If you ever watch DDL interviews in the past he's nothing like that, he completely hates being on the spotlight. The man has no pretension in his bone, he is so incredibly modest.

And for DDL to just spontaneously bring it up to the forefront was authentically generous of him. He didn't have to bring it up, but it was something definitely agonizing in his mind. Like what he said its just trivial talking about nominations in light of a very young talented peer of his passing away.

289. SatiricalTruth -- I agree, it makes sense. I think DDL does see his younger self in Heath and maybe he thought "but for the grace of.......it could have been me." It's certainly enough to shake you up a bit.

290. Can't you people read, or even think? IT WAS STAGED. I understand that it fits into some of your minds to accept it at face value, but to put it another way, OPRAH PUNKED YOU ALL. I've tried and I'm done.

291. For those of you idiots that believe the "image" that is being force-fed of his not being a druggie, do a search on his MANY binges with Naomi Campbell and others where he snorted coke like an elephant and threw back ecstasy like jelly-beans.

292. Relative of Crew Member: calm down, we don't believe you. We'd rather hear it from the Crew Member. And we won't believe him/her either. Now, take your pill (only one, now because you know what could happen) and go to bed. Sweet Dreams.

293. I watched the Oprah show in which Daniel Day Lewis so elequently gave his reaction to the untimely death of Heath.
Unlike most comments from other celebs, I thought his showed great sincerity and feeling. He said what all of Heaths' fans
are feeling...great loss and promise gone too soon. And as for being a drug addict , I don't believe that he was into that, but I do think he was just very sad over his breakup w/Michelle. It's hard to be in the award show "joyous mood" knowing we have
lost such great talent. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

295. "Wondering", you just proved their case, you're head's so far up your denial that you can't even be rational. Are you SURE that you took your meds today?

296. If Daniel Day-Lewis gets emotional about your death and respects you as an Actor. You have made it in history. Heath was a great actor. The fact Daniel-Day Lewis who along with Christian Bale is the best actor in the world, responded to your death like this means you were a great actor.

297. Boy, some people on this site sure do have low standards of what actually makes someone "great".

298. "Wondering" -what are you, some kind of an online pusher or something? Many of your posts involve you telling people to go take drugs. Or is this just you in your world of one? LOSER!
