Sorry, Oprah, I Want to Talk About Heath

Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, ostensibly to talk about his current Oscar nomination -- but instead made an emotional statement on the death of Heath Ledger.

Breaking away from Oprah's prepared questions, Lewis choked-up as he spoke of the late actor -- even though he "didn't know him."

346. Hey Back, seriously, this whole thing got out of hand. If you read my original response to a whole other post (who I thought I was helping) maybe you would understand.........ah, who cares at this point, right? Life is too short, as we now well know. Thanks for accepting a truce. I really appreciate it. Hopefully, Naughty "but nice" :) will feel the same.

Best to both of you!

348. I just hope her mother has the strength. That will carry both of them through (especially the mom) the tough times.

349. "Lets further help the public to be stupid and unaware. Nice one Pres Bush."

Right. That was totally his motivation for canceling. Think about the country we live in. Had he gone on this campaign in the days following Heath's death, people would have absolutely raised hell about him capitalizing on such a tragic event. He's not trying to further any stupidity, merely trying to stave off some unnecessary hatred.

As for the rest of you who have convinced yourselves that Heath was a junkie who got what he deserved...do any of you have jobs? Do you contribute anything relevant to society? What, did Heath run over your dog then spit in your face? There is absolutely no reason for the abhorrent comments. A life has been lost long before its time. Period. End of story. Why are you so bothered by the fact that, God forbid, someone else express their sorrow for an untimely event?

351. Again, thank you, Daniel Day-Lewis.
Heath must be smiling that extraordinarily beautiful smile of his, as he notes the love you had for him!

Let me try to tell an anecdote I read about the late Alec Guinness: For the film, "The Bridge on the River Kwai",
it was Charles Laughton, who was sought for the part of the British officer, who was a captive of the Japanese in WWII.
Mr. Laughton repeatedly turned down the part, which then went to Mr. Guinness.
After Alec Guinness had won much acclaim, and the oscar for Best Actor, he was asked what was the most satisfying aspect (I'm paraphrasing) of his success with the role.
Mr. Guinness replied it was when Mr. Laughton claimed that he never understood the role, until he saw Alec Guinness in the part.
Alec Guinness (probably) smiled, as he said that was the most satisfying part of it all; even more so than winning the oscar.

So, that's why the beautiful Heath Ledger probably smiles at your love!

354. Oh, jeez! Here we go again. Why can't people read past discussions and comments on a topic with a fair amount of posts in it so that rehashing isn't necessary?

Lix, There is more than ample evidence of Ledgers long and continual drug abuse. Was it suicide, and accidental OD, stroke, or wht, - no one knows yet. this does NOT mean that logical probabilities cannot be followed and voiced. condemnation of a lifestyle of drug abuse doesn't end with someone's death.

There is also reasons and coincidences that raise very real suspicions about the segment on Oprah's show. That, in no way, detracts from the words or mutual feelings of those who find some sort of kinship with his remarks, just with actual intent of the two parties involved.

So, in a nutshell, now you're "up-to-speed."

355. LOOKING BACK OVER THE COMMENTS POSTED SINCE LAST NIGHT, I AM AMAZED HOW IGNORANT, COLD AND CRUEL THE MAJORITY OF YOU ARE. MUST BE UNDER 25? "EVERYONE" THINKS THEY KNOW SO MUCH AND THEY KNOW NOTHING. DAMN, I'D HATE TO HAVE "FRIENDS" LIKE ANY OF YOU. JUDGEMENTAL, SELF-CENTERED, "PERFECT" PEOPLE OUT THERE. SOME DID MAKE SOME EXCELLENT POINTS ABOUT MEDS....STILL, NONE OF US KNOW ANYTHING. IT'S SAD TO SEE THE INTERACTIONS GOING ON HERE BETWEEN A FEW.....THIS IS A DEATH. GROW UP OR FIND ANOTHER SIGHT TO PLAY ON.

356. That was nice of him. Just shows you how much Heath touched others through his work.

357. I felt like DDL's comments were extremely heartfelt and sincere. He mentioned he had "just heard the news" before he went on live with Oprah. I was channel surfing - don't typically watch Oprah, but I love DDL and respect his work. I was REALLY pissed at Miss O's reaction. She said something like, "Yeah, it's a shocking thing. I hear they found drugs in the apartment... SO, tell us all about what you were doing when they called to tell you you'd be nominated!!" It was like he'd pissed all over her happy place and she was having NONE of it. I have more respect for him now, and less respect (if that's even possible) for her now.

You rock, DDL!!

358. The facts, as reported by the coroner: he was not stabbed, shot, blunt force trauma, etc. in other words, he was not murdered. In addition, he did not suffer a heart attack, brain nor heart aneurism. Therefore, it is now left to the experts in the toxicology field.

There is something called "deductive reasoning." (I did it Back, with that quotation thingy you hate, ha). This is the reasoning and logic detectives use on a daily basis. This is what some of the posters on this site use. It makes sense.
Statistically speaking, a 28 year old man doesn't just die in his apartment. The fact that there were prescribed drugs (6) as we think we know, delays in calling 9-1-1, etc. I mean, c'mon folks, sure it's accidental but he didn't fall down the elevator shaft. Sad, of course, for he and his family. He was a troubled soul, that's the best I can come up with. No different than the others that preceded him............unfortunately
